These developers don’t really understand criticism well. If I know there is going to be errors in my work I made, I would welcome any criticism to point out those flaws. Otherwise I wouldn’t learn from them.

Yeah... that comment made my eyes roll. I was lucky enough to be born BIG. Tall, broad and heavy set. As such I started working security, as a bouncer and security guard. 90% of the job is just to stand there and look imposing. Only about 2% is physical intervention. If a guy wants to hit you... he'll walk up and hit you, quickly. Guys that tell you how tough they are, claim they are a fucking x-man or superhero... they're scared of you. Intimidated. Seems to be a bit of flawed logic, if things were ever actually interpreted that way. I can see how it applies between states; allowing that if someone out in the boonies publishes online and you're in Sydney, you can file locally. Internationally, however, applying the same principle would ostensibly mean The New York Times is published separately 6 times in Australia, if at least one person in each state reads the online copy, in addition to its US publication (extreme scenario for the sake of arguement). Mostly off-topic, just my 2c on Aussie legal nuance as outlined.

@@Daeymien I'm not entirely sure because it's been a while since I read up on it, but I'm pretty sure that in a situation like you described the court would apply the laws of the state most relevant to the case, which would most likely be the one where the actual defamation occurred. So if, as you said, the NYT was published (read by at least one person) in six states here, the jurisdiction whose laws would be used would be the one which the defendant allegedly committed defamation in. I think the logic behind it was to be more fair towards the defendant by trying them under the laws they were actually subjected to at the time the alleged defamation occurred. Also, I don't think the court would interpret the NYT as being published 7 separate times, just published in a total of at least 7 different jurisdictions. I'm not sure whether the time it was read changes when it is taken to have been published. I'll see if I can find out. It is very likely the Courts would also break up the US into states when looking at publication if it is relevant I'll have a quick read of the laws a little later and update this if I'm wrong.

It took him 20 years to complete a game that looked like it would have taken 6 months for anyone else to develop in the '90s. And game dev is his actual job. Most indie devs aren't like this, this guy is just part of a small minority, if every indie dev acted like this no one would give a shit about indie games, don't worry, a second crash is unlikely to happen, the only reason it happened was because the VG industry was young, now that it's more established the likelihood of a second crash happening is equal to the likelihood of EA making a good game.

It does make for more room to consider pity and maybe an offer of help over immediately jumping to the "lol what an asshole" position (although that position is still somewhat valid too).

If they read this, i do hope they will look at themselves, look at their behavior and know that it isn't normal and that they need help, or quit the business. If you can't take criticism...then you have no business what so ever in any field where people buy your product. I was a movie editor, for a media company, so i know how it is that people judge your work. In college they always hammered down on us how to deal with such criticism. Maybe it helps if these indy devs follow some sort of course atleast in how to deal with it. You need to listen to what people say, see if its trashing or constructive. If they just trash you product without mentioning what exactly is wrong and how they think it could improve, then ignore it, screw them, if they just say "It's fucking shit" then don't bother carring about it cause its a pointless comment. If they say "It sucks, cause this and that isn't working" then you know that something is wrong and you can check if it works right or not and fix it. But really, if you can't criticism, don't expose yourself too it. If you have a product for sale on the internet, well goodluck cause people tend to be very cruel in saying how much it sucks if they feel ripped off. They also don't seem to learn, maybe they are unable too, but by now there are so many examples. Surely someone who makes games knows of these examples. They must know about the whole Digital homicide thing with Jim Sterling, or other examples where threatening with going to court or deaththreats has always backfired. So i really don't understand these people and their thinking, and i doubt they even know it themselves. Yeah it's true, many artists are having social issues, but come on, wake up if you read this, go see a shrink. It's nothing to be ashamed off and you will feel better believe me.
