There was a gap in the weather last week and so I got organised and put my Hobie Lynx Kayak in at Swallow Rock boat ramp at Grays Point on the Hacking River. I headed upstream towards Audley Weir to see if fish would still take lures in the dirty water. The East Coast has been taking a hiding lately and the local rivers have not had a chance to flush themselves clean.
But as a wise man once told me, fish still have to feed, regardless of the conditions.
When I am kayaking I often troll lures at the same time that I am casting at structure, to give myself more chances to come across a fish. Sometimes the trolled lures have the hook up and at other times the casting. On this trip I had an each way bet.
After fishing my way up towards Audley Weir, i headed back to meet a mate who was putting in at Yowie Bay.
So i packed away the yak and drove around to Yowie Bay boat ramp and we fished together. The water here was just as dirty and not many fish were showing on the sounder. We cast around the boats and moorings but it was pretty quiet. When we got down to the mouth of Yowie Bay we picked up a few Reds to 35cm on soft plastics in about 12m of water.
I will be jumping in the Round 6 Hobie Kayak Fishing Comp over the 25/26th May, to try my luck at catching a Bream on the Georges River. With the forecast for more rain this week, it looks like the dirty water will be here for a bit longer.
I will post a video of the Comp and it will be a great experience to fish with all the Bream gun fishos who enter.
