We have two sons with disabilities. The youngest has quite visible disabilities, he uses crutches and/or a wheelchair. His neurological disorder prevents him from walking unaided. Almost every appointment, social event or meeting throws up something like this. When our eldest son was recently married, his brother could not attend because the venue didn't provide access. Our other son's disability is more hidden and he is regularly treated as though he is 'just being difficult' or 'uncooperative.' He is autistic and severely dyslexic. He lives independently in his own flat but almost every time he has an appointment with a doctor, optician, dentist or job centre (he sees yet another person) he has to explain to them about his disability. He had a doctor's appointment recently and the doctor handed him a stack of documents to read (our son can't read). When my son told the doctor that he is dyslexic the doctor replied "Get someone to read them to you!" My son is in his forties and this doctor didn't comprehend how inappropriate it would be for him to get his mother to read them to him.

They should be sued for doing that. It’s not like they didn’t know she will need it.

It’s disgraceful, even today little has changed. They were unaware and had plenty time to sort something out. Most shops, cafe’s etc that have no thought or planning how to help wheelchair users.

This is classic ableism in society that has happened in this story. It has to stop and the fight against ableism doesn’t stop until the it gets defeated in the world.

I’m quadriplegic and it wouldn’t bother me one bit some disabled people just love using their disability to moan about anything. Side note that wheelchair probably weighs 200k without her even in it my Permobil does so would it even be safe to do so. Not only that the wheelchair she’s In the seat raises up quite high so if she raised it everyone would have seen her anyway.

Disgraceful that they did that to her. They did it intentionally which makes it even worse. 😢

@@rambo9875 why would I? Its not like they're stopping her from graduating. The self pity about not being on a stage that you can't physically get onto yourself without people going out of their way to aid you. Honestly... lol

@@adamcraig1468The city is going out of its way to reward her for disability campaigning. The least they can do is allow her to savour that moment on the stage, like everyone else
