I LOVE this commercial, Ive been doing alot of personal research, on human behavior (By research, I mean watching alot of stuff, and reading etc) and I find it appalling the way we react some times. THIS type of commercial needs to be shown more than garbage like jersey shore
I must admit there's a certain Fridge Horror to this video. Watching it back, it does look like the interviewers were playing with the applicant for shits and giggles. It's almost as if the interviewers were saying, "Lloyd might not like you because you're disabled! You might do things wrong! You're different and odd! Lloyd is scary and might make or break you..." (awkward silence) "Just kidding, he's just unnaturally prejudiced against house music. Haha, your face!"
Being discriminated against is real and happens to many many people including me. I went to school and got a degree in Accounting (4) year degree and took computers and have 17 years of solid job experience and was in two car wrecks one in 1992 and one in 2006 and now cannot get any job. No matter what they look at me and lie to me about jobs that do not even exist. Temp agencies are evil and tell you about non existant jobs. I have been to 138 places to no avail. I hate Oregon. It is bad here.
@vitaedigest you nailed it................i read somewhere....."the only thing necessary for evil to suceed in this world is for good men to do nothing".........
In the UK, they would ot be allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexuality, so discriminating against a heterosexual (let's say) would be illegal. However, if it can be shown that the job holder HAS to be a gay man, discrimination is allowed. To use another example, I believe that a care home for severely disabled female residents would be allowed to only employ female staff, considering the nature of the work.
Thanks for posting this ad of how bad discrimination is among the disabled. I use a walker due to a car wreck that was not my falt and cannot get a job here in Oregon even with a 5 year Accounting degree. I took many computer courses and thought I did everything right and was in a car wreck in 2005 and 1992. I have been out of work since August of 2009 and have been to 140 places to look for a job most of them agencies. Employers are evil and know you cannot prove this.
Not always..I've gotten interviews based on my skills and I have a physical disability. I'm now working PT as a narrator and working toward grad school.
I have no mental health problems that I know of but I was-and sometimes still am-seen as a nerd. Discrimination hurts. Like they say, see the person, not the fact they understand how nuclear power works at 8(I'm 13 now)
When was the last time you had to take an IQ test in an interview? Interviews should focus on whether the individual is the right person for the job - in this case, if the woman submitted a good application form, impressed the interviewers and appeared fully capable of doing the job, then there's no reason why she shouldn't do it. Also, IQ isn't a qualification - employers look at the actual qualifications (eg, NVQs, GCSEs) that people possess.
@vitaedigest Because the smartest want nothing to do with it is my best guess. My brother, for example. Complete genius. Nearly perfect scores on the ACTs and SATs WITHOUT studying, on his first time, AND no calculator. Always got As without trying. Got a full-ride scholarship to college. He went for a couple years, decided it wasn't any fun, so he dropped out and is a dish-washer and is LOVING it. C'est la vie...
Kyberspawn,Why do you assume the disabled are weak. I walk a mile three times a week on forearm crutches and lift weights. I also drive with hand controls. I'm pretty damn strong. Care to armwrestle?
@vitaedigest @vitaedigest. would you rather have a smart person running the show for a large company, or someone stupid? Think hard before you answer. (Consider the tough times we are in now...) Lol what a stupid question. The world has always worked like that, since day one.
Pssshh! Sure you use a girl with DS...what about those with disabilities we can see? My sister has Aspergers and my brother has dyslexia & ADD. Ya, think about how many times they have been discriminated against...more than you prob think!! I think there should be a place on applications so that this doesn't happen and people will understand their situation.
The real truth of the matter is that disabled people are RARELY hired for jobs especially in Oregon. I use a walker and it has been over a year and 117 interviews and no one will hire me at all for work. I was in an accident that was not my falt in 2006 and feel that every person out there is blaming me for my knees being out. The REAL unemployment rate among the disabled is over 350% according to websites I have seen. Discrimination is REAL and there is not a DAMN thing you can do about it.
Hmmm, it seems you're right and wrong at the same time =s Well, I suppose it makes sense when you don't see a policeman on a wheelchair and wheelchair users can do well on office or on Point Of Sale posts.
@baronscarpia1. (However, if it can be shown that the job holder HAS to be a gay man, discrimination is allowed.) Gotta love the bias in that comment, minorities are treated like kings today, while the average white person is left high and dry, gotta love "equality". People want it, but then again want MORE for their certain race/sexual preference.
