I met a man in Chiang Mai that was quadriplegic for seven years before coming to Thailand. He regained the ability to use his arms and legs after receiving acupuncture and traditional medicine at Mungkala clinic in Chiang Mai. It may be possible for them to help improve Alain’s condition. Good luck to him.
Info please pass to Alain. I have similar issues for which I was prescribed medications, however, conditions never improved pain increased and meds also increased. I live in a farming community in Sangkha (Surin) Hardly anyone speaks English and my Thai is minimal at best, despite my first visit here being in 1970. Recently I was registered at the local hospital for medical and prescription services. I was paying about 800Bt a month for doctor visits, blood tests etc as well as meds. Recently I stopped all meds and started taking a Thai herbal mix of 3 pills every two days. Pain is virtually gone. I can function almost independently. I am 71 yrs old though. I would like for Alain to also reach this ripeness. I like his comment about asking for help. Here in Thailand, your plea will be respected. But it never hurts to also be able to "PAY IT FORWARD". Great presentation from a real battler.
Wow Pete, what an absolute ripper story. Thailand, for me, has always been the most magical place since I first crossed the border from Malaysia into Yala province way back in January 1984. I absolutely love that Alain has found his life here in Thailand. And I totally recommend Thailand as a remedy, and possibly a solution, to anyone who needs something in their life.
Big hugs to Alain 🥰 Coincidentally, I had a stroke when I was 13, had to have treatment at hospital every morning before school. Luckily ok now. But listening to Alain has put everything in perspective. He's a remarkable man who gets on with life no matter what! What an inspiration he is. Hopefully, see more of him, thank you Pete and Alain 🙏

You handled this interview with great sensitivity and respect, Pete. Some people can sometimes sound unintentionally condescending, but you expertly avoided seemingly harmless words like "brave", which can be considered quite irritating to folks with physical challenges. Alain's determination is off the charts, and I do hope you keep in touch with him from time to time. He seems like a top lad. Well done mate, you're a natural at this caper!👍

Alan is a cool guy . I'm glad he is now living a great life in Thailand. Interesting how warm weather is good for pain symptoms. 🤔 He also reminded me that I should walk around a bit on the plane over in November.
Fantastic!!!! I became visually impaired recently and I did a 3.5 months in SE Asia. It's true, people there are so helpful. I needed the help that I would not have gotten so easily from the west. I know what it's like to be depressed like he said but in Thailand I was able to live a good life. I'm coming back! Thanks for this one good Sir!
This video proves none of us are immune to sudden illness or worse. Conclusion: Live every day as if it is your last and spend more quality time with those you love and care about.

Hi guys, thanx 4 ur vid, I lived and worked all over Thailand between 2002-2014 as, guess what? Anyway had a serious motorbike accident in Jan 2014 which left me unable to work or much at all really. So, eventually (after visa & passport ran out) I turned myself in before I got caught, did a few nights in Bankok Hilton (IDC) with a shattered collar bone, broken ribs etc. Fined for overstay, got emergency passport, straight from jail and literally frog marched to the plane door and deported. The UK government wouldn't allow my Thai wife to join me (that's another story) but let my son who was 8 at the time join me as he had British nationality through descent. In 2020 I got Covid, then pneumonia, then had a stroke (left side affected also) then got Covid again (whist in hospital). Anyway, to the point, like Alain, I was in hosi for months, then home in a wheel chair for months I've recovered enough now to be pretty self-reliant. Would love to move back (home, Thailand) even to let my son see his mum again, (he's 17 now) but am still way to disabled to funtion independently in Thailand. More importantly Alain is obviously financially secure enough (for now) to live comfortably. I'm totally dependant on UK benefits, which would cease as soon as I left blighty (with emphasis on the 'blight') right now. Therefore returning is now just a pipe dream, I live in a flat, in a converted church in the Lake District so imagine what it's like for me in winter. So, all the best to you guys, maybe, one day, I might run (or in my case hobble) into you. By the way the stories that 'long timer Paul' are telling are pretty much true, if sometimes a little exagerated, been there, got the T shirt. Cheers again and 'chok dee'.
OK thanks both of you A little example can greatly inspire. Yes anyones life can change in an instant - keep your blood pressure in check. Heamoragic stroke got me in 2016. Fought back from being written off - walking with a stick and AFO - trying to perfect elegance lol. Thailand one day 💫

Wow, this was truly inspiring. You've had a lot of great guests on your channel Pete but this interview was the first one that really struck me emotionally, because of Alain's spirit and determination in the face of adversity. I can't imagine how I'd handle going through the experience he's had, but he demonstrates that with a positive attitude and a strong will it is possible to overcome such extreme difficulties. I think a lot of us (myself included) who sometimes let small things get them upset could benefit from his outlook on life. Massive respect to you Alain; I'm glad to hear how you've been able to make a new life for yourself in Thailand and wish you all the best for the future.

This has to be one of your best interviews you have ever done. Very inspiring. You are a great interviewer too because I noticed in your videos how good of a listener you are. It’s true. You let people talk. Some interviewers don’t allow that. They think it’s all about them. But it’s not. It’s about the person you are interviewing. I think Alain is amazing. I love his tenacity. His strong drive to do it himself. Great example for the world. Don’t give up. No matter what. I hope you will do a follow up interview with Alain. Can you please. That would be great to see. I live with chronic pain & understand the feeling when it is relieved its like magic, that alone is reason to live in Thailand but add in Thai people it would be heaven on earth !
Do not take your health for granted. Alain is a great guy. I was in great health on top of the world and almost dead the next day spending a month in the hospital. Luckly for me I totally recover. But cost me two million dollars. Great video Pete. Keep the video coming.
Remarkable, well done to Alain for continue living his life and Not letting depression take over. It's easy to feel sorry for yourself and drown in sorrow, however Alain choice was to live his life and it's admirable. Pete, your interview was incredible as always. Hi Pete, I am watching this interview and compelled to say a prayer for him. My mother, God rest her soul, had stroke, twice, the first one took her a year to recover. Then 7 years later she had the 2nd one, the massive stroke, and she loss the use of her right side, loss her speech, and was unable to eat properly by mouth, so, she had the feeding tube to get her food. She was bedridden for nearly 3 years before she went to her mansion in the sky. My point is Alain is still young, and he still has the potential to fully recover, as long as he keeps up with the exercise, especially the affected side, so the muscles will not "die" for lack of a better word. He needs to watch his weight, and take medication regularly. My mother was 83 when she had the massive stroke, so, her ability to exercise to regain her strength was not as much as we would like, so, the outcome was not as we had hoped for, but we took good care of her until the very end. Alain must be careful with salt. Do not eat too much salty food. That was another thing that contributed to my mom's stroke. Alain must move both arms and legs every day, and have the will to fight, the will to live. He has so much to give with his knowledge and skills. I hope, Pete, that you offer help to screen everyone who comes to "take care" of Alain, that they won't hurt or harm him in anyway. There are lots of Crooks and cons there, and it breaks my heart to see some Thai people took advantage of him. There is a very good woman named May who is taking care of her disabled Danish husband, you and Alain might check it out. Her channel is Mommy May TV, maybe she would know someone who is very good and genuinely caring, who would be good and helpful to Alain. I will keep him in my prayers 🙏. Really an inspirational video. I too learnt a lot esspecially to be appreciative of what one has as you never know what life can throw at you. I hope my mom can see this video too. Would love to meet Alain in Thailand when I am there again.

Thankfully he had the stroke while at home with his families support and superior medical and cheap services. Having said that I can understand his feelings about wanting to return where he is happy. You can,t really put a price with the limited amount of time in our lives. If you are capable of doing something do it. Having said that you had a few quests I still feel are making a very careless mistake returning here or continuing to stay here. Sometimes you need balance in your choices it all depends on the person.
@@jomontanee Having lived in a remote area of Alaska for years I can understand his feelings about the cold weather it just wears on you after a time besides being alone much of the time. It took time and effort but I slowly adapted very well to Thailand and Southeast Asia. I just recently got trapped in Alaska for nearly two years because of Covid unable to return to my Thai family. I was miserable and it nearly killed me. I knew that if I was unable to return to where I considered home I would have been dead so afterwards. So In can certainly relate to him. It has its risks but you have to try.

I had a mojor stroke 10 years ago and I lost my left side my bream is to retire in thiland but not now but I have been looking at stem cell he has done well for himself I whis whis him all the best I am 62ihave 4more years to get my ponison I would like to find out more about insurance look up stem cells on utube
My father is suffering from the same disease as Mr.Alan. After my father was discharged from the hospital, he was unable to walk and speak, unable to move his limbs. My relatives and I took turns taking care of both current medical procedures, herbal compress massage And I took him to Hua Chiew Hospital for acupuncture treatment once a week. After 5 months, my father began to do more, able to use a walker until he used a cane till walked normally. This happened 15 years ago, now my father passed away due to old age. I want to tell you that my father received encouragement from relatives. He had friends to talk about uncomplicated matters and laugh all day long.
Alain you are an inspiration. You are living a fuller life than many. Everyone has their problems, most people just have them on the inside. Good on you mate.
Can you contact him and ask him to watch the 60 minutes video about etanercept and how it has helped people with strokes and even allowed them to walk again. There is a clinix in Bangkok that follows this Dr Tobinick in Florida.
Alain is the last spark I needed to help me know my decision to move to Thailand soon is right. My main reason to go is for Healthcare and overall better quality of life. I am from the USA with a preexisting condition.
My Respect for Alain. His mindset is very buddhist. It's always acceptance, forgivness and movin on in life when anything bad happens to us. No matter how much we feel sorry for ourselves or are angry about the ohter person who maybe did us wrong. At the end of the mental pain it always comes to letting go of attachment and looking forward. I am happy for Alain that he can live in Bangkok and feels so good and gets the best out of his life and situation. Often what happens in my mind for many decades already is this. When I see people who are sitting in a wheel-chair it should make us humble and thankful that we are healthy and only have our stupid little sorrows and moanings about every day life. I then say to my inner self.. The next time when you think you want to complain about lifes hardshipr.. think of theese persosn you met before. When I catch myself in these moments and it then comes to mind it always shames me a litte and but I also can laugh about my own stupidity and then be contentend again. Life can be everything we make it it's just a question of attitude. 🙂
