I think financial matters when it comes to single women is slightly different in some ways. I don't imagine any world in which a young college law grad calls a Wells Fargo loan broker and says, "I want to get pre approved for a home; I don't have a credit score." Oh, and I've had my new job for 12 months and I have a modest down payment. No way. Yet, because I had a credit score of 780 at age 28, I was able to do just that.
Manual underwriting without a credit score is a thing, but I don't want to limit who I can go to because no one wants to deal with me. I want to play in the pond with the other fish, and be able to crush it on a somewhat "objective" basis. It's not a perfect system, but it gave me credibility in my life when I was buying real estate or applying for jobs or rentals.
Use credit minimally and wisely, but as women, I don't want to find out what it's like to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
