I have a Samsung (not this model) and I am not buying one again. The ghosting with VRR enabled makes it almost unusable. I made sure to get an MSI as my second screen and the Samsung is now only used when I work and need 2 screens. For gaming I only use the MSI.

I bought one, two actually but here is my experience. Awesome monitor, but first unit came with three dead pixels right in the middle of the screen, the core lighting was dim and the monitor would not save my personalized brightness, black equalizer or core lighting color. Every time the monitor turned off, it would reset back to factory default settings. So I returned it to Amazon and ordered another one while it was on sale for 1200. Second unit was much better, one dead pixel in the upper right area of the monitor where the X is for your close windows button but otherwise no defects and the core lighting is bright like it should be. The monitor saves the settings after power down and I have had no other issues. Scan lines are a thing with both units but I don't find it noticeable from my viewing, seating position. Bottom line. QC as mentioned in this video is total garbage. If you buy this monitor from any vendor, amazon, best buy, frys etc you WILL be rolling the dice. That said, for 4k and 32in, there is no better display. This VA panel is MUCH better than the 27in 4k Ultragear IPS it replaced. The colors and image quality are the best on the market right now. You just need to be willing to roll the dice and accept you might need to return one or two. Cheers gents.

When I had a dead pixel on my G7 (non-neo) back in 2020, I had an absolute nightmare with Samsung support where the representative said that the warranty does not cover screen issues. Yeah... I couldn't believe it either that a monitor warranty doesn't cover the screen. About 3 days of fighting on the phone got me an RMA that took 2 weeks though.

Looking at how closely the Neo G7 and Neo G8 perform, perhaps they are essentially the same monitor, just binned for the higher refresh rate? Hence, the variance in other performance factors might just be down to whether you get lucky with the unit you get.

The G8 looks to be missing backlight strobing, making the high refresh look like dog shit.
@iagobkstar
@iagobkstar 2 года назад
@@Ryuuken24 I don't know anybody who actually has backlight strobing/back frame insertion enabled, so to me that's one of the top gimmick features. I've tried it multiple times with different monitors, and frame crosstalk is inevitable when the best LCD monitors have 4ms+ response times. 1 frame @ 240 Hz is ~4.2 ms, you'd need half of that *in all transitions* to avoid frame crosstalk whatsoever - this is not the case in any LCD. Only OLED displays can do proper BFI that actually improves picture quality under all circumstances. Saying that high refresh looks like shit just because it doesn't support BFI is, to say the least, absurd.
@Ryuuken24
@Ryuuken24 2 года назад
@@iagobkstar It's not something any simpleton would get with a simple explanation. You have to see it side by side to a shitty high Hz display to get why BFI with high Hz is a better solution. Most people can't afford these displays, which is why the feature isn't a gimmick, you can't afford it. I recommend the MAG274QRF-QD.

@@Ryuuken24 before insulting somebody you don't know, you need to assume they know more than you. Learn some humility. In any case, I have a 170Hz display with BFI, and I've also seen the MSI monitor you talk about in person with BFI on. BFI looks like arse and after a while with it on, it gives me a headache. PS: Have a good day.

I must've really lucked out with my unit. I'm extremely confident that I see no scanlines whatsoever and am definitely free from any discoloration or dead pixels. I made my purchase at my local microcenter where their warranty/return policy is fantastic so I was ready to return it if I encountered one of these issues. I'd recommend the monitor if anyone else has that kind of luxury for local return/rma, avoid buying it online. It really is a fantastic monitor if you get lucky.
@TheDarknessOW
@TheDarknessOW 2 года назад
The whole scanline issue is overrated anyway. There is a reason most scanline shots are taken up close (or zoomed in). And even if it was terrible, the monitor @120hz is still better than any 4k non oled in that pricerange and you get the option to use 240hz with scanlines if you desire.
@xellaz
@xellaz 2 года назад
Did you look closely on your monitor @ 240Hz? The scan lines is only visible to me on my G8 if I get really close to the screen... like 4-8 inches or so. Not visible at all @120Hz. Mine has 2 defects though--a pixel size dirt on the top right corner of the screen and a 2 inches scratch at the bottom left side of the bezel. Don't feel like RMA'ng just 'coz of these. 1800R is the curve they should be using if they want a curved display. Its subtle and makes a difference and doesn't cause distortion. Otherwise, for this size monitor, flat is the other option. When you mentioned in the video the FALD backlight array was "46 x 26 grid", that would be a great ROW to have in your table @18:16 for the TV specs so viewers don't have to scan through the video to see if you mentioned it.

Scanlines is due to the 1000 curve I think as they have done a lot of firmware updates to the previous g7 and it did not disappear as many confirms, this issue is really troublesome more qc would have made this new product perfect, but it is impossible to combine a VA 240 monitor with a 1000r curve and to be honest nothing is wrong in making a Flat g8 neo

16:55 Wasn't the original theory behind Samsung's 240hz a compromise of contrast ratio in favor of better pixel response times? If the theory is true, then Samsung doesn't need to drive the 165hz Neo G7 pixels as fast and as a result get a higher contrast ratio. While the Neo g8 needs to compromise on contrast to achieve fast 240hz performance.

how can they still have shitty QC? they ruin their good monitors with it... they really could have changed the monitor market with their last few top end monitors and they could have be the first to introduce a new gen of monitors... wel they did but everyone hates them. besides the specs on paper the monitors are bad which surprises me cuz samsung makes the best mobile displays and they are strong in the TV market as well. when they don't change their QC issues for their next monitors i think they'll die before they could really come into the market which is a shame...

Any chance of a recommended settings video to make the monitor more closely follow the recommended PQ EOTF better (using non-standard window sizes like 18% of course to get better accuracy in real content, so blacks aren't crushed and everything else not getting over-brightened for the higher range, how to straighten that S curve)? 🙂 Like should you reduce gamma to reduce the high range and up the black level to increase the shadow detail? I get it, Oled has some flaws but in my honest opinion, Burn-In isn't one of them. You just gotta use your brain how to prevent it, and because 99% of people who use an Oled TV as a desktop are on Windows anyway, it's really easy to tweak the OS to prevent Burn-In to a great extent. 1. Use a cycling background, which changes every 5-10min or so, and with atleast 4 different wallpapers. 2. Use the Autohide mousecursor, which fades out your cursor when not in use after 5-120 seconds, and instantly shows it again when you use your mouse. 3. Autohide your taskbar in the windows options after a few seconds. 4. Tweak the taskbar so it hides completly without some pixels showing 5. Set the montior to go to sleep after 30min or so of inactivity. Now you don't have any burnin. At least I don't on my LG C1 which I use alot since like 3 years

Kyle and Linus almost came when they “reviewed” this monitor but I was waiting for this one. Had G7 for 2 days but scanlines were just awful. Returned the monitor and bought gigabyte m32q. Best monitor ever

ShortCircuit doesn't do reviews, they did a sponsored showcase, so take that for what it's worth. I mean it's correct that it looks great on the first look.

You really do some of the best, and most thorough testing of monitors on RU-vid. You really make it easy to understand what quality looks like, making a concise summary of your feelings towards these monitors. From the off I could tell you were disappointed in this monitor, and it's good to make this clear, it's poor value, explained by such things as even it's noticeable yellow marking.

He was also disappointed in the original G7, I had watched his review and bought one anyway. Scan lines are an annoyance, still the best monitor I’ve ever owned and would do it again. Being over critical may cause many who would be quite happy to miss out, a shame.

Same issue. Burn mark in the center. Left it on overnight doing a burn in test and it didn’t fade. Sent it back and got the 42 LG instead.

Why can’t just quit building courved displays?

They don't have to stop, just provide us with a flat alternative as well. Then everybody can choose the display according to their taste/requirements.

I just got mine, not only do I have the scanline issue, but also I have screen flicker/tearing AND a dead pixel that I wouldnt have found if I wasnt in microsoft paint diagnosing the scanline issue.... I will be sending it back because of the dead pixel, but is there anything else in 4k 240Hz thats comparable?? Should I just live with the scanline issue? Anything coming out soon from anyone that ISNT Samsung?

Cancelled my pre order for the G8 and went for the G7. Should still be great with 40 series GPUs and hopefully wont have any QC issues.

So many flaws and even hard lies from Samsung again, devalue their products even more. Never a Samsung monitor for me now, they deserve all the slack for making products with huge flaws.

They literally all have huge flaws. Horrible game ruining IPS glow? That IPS monitors somehow get a free pass on? Shit TN colors (still better then IPS glow)? Or scan lines and excellent response time, contrast, no glow, great colors.. pick your poison. You’ll go skeletal waiting for perfect.

I recently (4 months ago) purchased my odyssey g8 from microcenter new out of the box, and have not experienced any scanline issues or qc problems with the display pertaining to dead pixels or weirdly colored spots so far. There was either an update or the model reviewed in this video was a bit of a lemon. Only time will tell if these problems pop up eventually though

You have scanlines, they just don't bother you.

I think the curve is not a feature, its a requirement because of the VA panel they are using and maybe/or the coating, if it were flat you would notice issues with the view angle even when standing in front of it. I have a g7 and if I move it too high or too low on my desk I see view angle issues on the top or bottom of the display. Also its a bit overpriced, its not OLED and QC is quite bad, I had 2 G7's and both had issues.
