Disaster as I endure 42 hours on board Balearia Ferry Tenerife to Mainland Spain 

How does that ferry business survive. Appalling. I think we all felt your frustration DJ and truly wished it could have been much better for you and Steve. Total respect for you both

You have the patience of a saint and have been dignified in what you have had to endure on that rotten boat. Be safe when your driving in all that rain pal. Take a couple week off work when you get back youl need it to recover 👍

I’m guessing things became too much, and you decided to shelve any further episodes until you got home and gathered your energies? We do the drive from uk to tenerife every year and travelled back a week after you, its not as bad as you make out, but we are more prepared with our own drinks, we have a dog friendly cabin. The ship you sailed on is not the regular ship, the regular ship is The Marie Curie which is much larger and more modern, also the food is hot, it seems to be a spanish thing to have tepid food

Hi Darren, I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now but this road trip has really been painful viewing. I don’t comment on peoples videos much but couldn’t help this. Mainly what you’ve shown us is rainy service stops,bathrooms full of drying clothes and ferry canteens. Three main queries:- 1. You knew it was a road trip/holiday,but you never properly planned where to put luggage. 2. You’re a RU-vidr,but you had nowhere to put your camera. 3. You knew which ferries and times and journey time,so why didn’t you book a cabin prior to arrival ? And finally you were late for the bike shop in Huelva on way home. Has Tenerife not got anywhere to buy waterproofs/camera mount/luggage rack ?? Safe journey home hopefully but can’t watch anymore.

You couldn’t write DJ could you. Just one hiccup after the other. The ferry a total disaster probably not to recommend. You look totally exhausted so best wishes for the rest of the trip. Safe journey and certainly one to remember for a long time to come.

Ironically, I'm watching this video on the Holyhead to Dublin ferry. The difference in the quality of the boats is vast. The Stenna Line boat I'm on is far superior to that rusty can your on mate.

That ferry look appalling! I've had better experiences on a Filippino ferry (where they had coffins onboard, and said a prayer for us all that we'd reach our destination!). You just couldn't get a break in either direction on that ferry, could you!? And that was even having purchased First Class, and a cabin! Total joke! Hope your experience was much better after the ferry.

The ferry company have let you down big time in every department. Schedule delays, awful food, ill functioning cabins, not the mention the exorbitant cost - just a complete cluster f***! I would be making a serious complaint and demanding a substantial refund! To55ers!

Darren you'll deserve a medal & a holiday after this road trip madness. Of all the things that could of gone wrong did go wrong. Could of been worse mechanical breakdowns flat tyres accidents.

Darren, don't let you get stressed. Exactly what you said, really always hurdles you can't do anything about. Let it be a a good reminder to skip those lousy ferries in the future. In September you travel much more relaxed to your island. Keep the spirit.

I'd be seeking compensation from that ferry company for their complete incompetence, I have never witnessed such an abysmal effort which in effect ruined what should have been a great experience for Steve and yourself. The mileage involved would be a task driving a car let alone on bikes, you two have my utmost respect and admiration DJ.

Hang in there, Darren (and Steve).. Sleep when you can, and breathe deep! Keep going and stop when you have to. Your achievement will be getting home safely and in one piece. No medals for overdoing it, especially on a motorbike.

DJ, That ferry is a rip off - not all ferries are like that. The Shetland Aberdeen ferry which I use a fair bit is excellent and modestly priced in terms of meals, drinks etc. You’ve had a nightmare in terms of your travel. You’ll look back and laugh though, I guarantee that!

Hi Darren, sorry that all has not gone to plan, your time on the ferry sounds like something out of a “Carry On” movie, possibly “Carry On Afloat”?? The good part is that despite the hiccups along the way, you can say with a considerable amount of pride that you did a road trip to Tenerife and back which would be the envy of many a motorcyclist. The most important part is that your family will be proud of you as we all are.

Mate. Could you not have got a ferry to Morocco, then up to Spain from there, cos that ferry service is shocking.

When I embark on a long trip, either by bike or car, I check everything weeks before departure. I make a list of necessary items. Something about lots of Ps.

Flying is clearly proffered way to do this journey - still it was a once in a lifetime experience……😢😢

Just book your accommodation as you go in Spain, there is usually lots available and would save you all this hassle with a set timetable

LOVED the external water footage off the ferry (and the music)! The fairgrounds in Casares all lit up must have been a welcoming sight! These are memories and stories you will be telling over and over again!
