It's odd but it's almost certain they were fully aware of the signs and the potential hazards. From my experience people just normalize risk. You will start off 100% knowing that you are taking a terrible chance. But then you get away with it once, twice maybe half a dozen times. After that it's pretty easy to convince yourself that nothing bad is ever going to happen, at least when YOU do it. I really enjoy your videos but, story 3 begins with what I assume to be an intended, ominous low frequency tone for dramatic effect. Except (for those of us that have large surround audio systems) it is so loud you cannot enjoy the dialogue without rattling your home. It would seem that the story itself is the dramatic effect and that a high level low frequency tone droning on is more annoying than adding more to an already fascinating story. A suggestion is to pre-screen your video using headphones, a small system and a large system. Adjust your levels in the final mix to arrive at a happy medium. Any background audio is more pleasant being ambient, not overwhelming.

Genuine question: WHY do cave mappers not bring any kind of guiding wire or anything down with them? It should be like, Okay, I swam as far as I could on this tank of oxygen, now I have to turn around. I'll leave my wire bolted into this rock here as a checkpoint and follow the line back to the boat. We can pick this up from this point tomorrow. Etc? How many people would be prevented from being lost if they could simply just follow some type of line back to where they came from?
@dana102083
@dana102083 Год назад
I think theyre in rocks and what would it need to be made from to be flexible but still take corners and not deteriorate from friction? Would you trust where its founded without a serious bolt? Then you gotta bring extra things.. Then other people can eff with it.. Ive thought about it too..and you think they could use something reliable without reducing safety.. Cave diving, has a rule of thirds..one bottle going in, one for out..and an extra for emergency.

For the Gouffre Berger cave deaths (Story #1), everyone of those "professional" cave explorers were fools! If you know a cave is over a thousand meters deep, why would you go on a rainy day? Always check the weather prior to risky outdoor adventures! Furthermore, a basic simple study of the surrounding topography to each csve entrance would tell you all you need to know about the dangers of cave flooding, not to mention the fact that limestone is very porous and slippery when wet! These were definitely not experienced cave explorers because they lacked a basic education in both geology and survival skills. Do you know what water feels like when it hits you on the head from a few thousand feet? They obviously didn't know and that's what led to their downfall.

Lots of repeated information in the first story. It's not bad but can definitely be improved immensely with some better script writing.

Goofy Burger? Isn’t that what they said my wife tried serving me to get the life insurance payout?

I can't help but think that if an adventure didn't go wrong sometimes, it would remove the sense of adventure, wouldn't it. We call it tragic but what else fuels the sense of exhilaration but the risk and overcoming it when others have not? Foam padding the playgrounds actually limits future innovation change my mind.

Going on an adventure is the appeal of the unknown and exploration, not the possibility of my death.

I wish the narrator would have learned how to pronounce Gouffre Berger somewhat properly. 😕
