I agree. The dyno says Herman has more horsepower, but the Hercules is batter at lugging.

Yep. My cousin is across the road from this wheat stubble, so he's happy to have a convenient place to apply manure in the summer.

There is a lot of expense in tooling up to produce parts, so Agco needs to feel they can sell enough to justify the trouble. Ross's oil pan is on a Perkins engine, which is now owned by Caterpillar. Agco would have to get with Cat to get the permission and specifications to build it, then dedicate factory time to building parts for old tractors instead of new ones. I'm honestly impressed with the number of parts they still produce for Olivers, a brand that saw its last tractor roll off the line almost 50 years ago. Some things like oil pans don't go bad often enough to create the demand to stock them any more. It shouldn't be too hard to find a good used one.

It's a model 271, 18 foot width. I don't see them too often. I almost sold it once I had the 25 footer, but I'm glad I kept it for the Olivers.

The steering knuckle broke. The other side had broke and been repaired at some point in the past, and I'd bet whatever broke the other side cracked this one. It must have been something, because I've never seen them break in that spot before. The wheat was harvested in July, so all that is left is the straw stubble. The first field I was discing down the stubble to kill weeds and make it easier to see the rocks so I can get some picked. My cousin has been injecting liquid hog manure into the second field. That's what the tank was doing. Injecting it into the ground keeps the smell down and preserves the nutrients for next year's corn crop. It does leave the ground a little rough, so I disc it to smooth it back out. All of the wheat stubble will get a cover crop of oats planted soon. They help prevent erosion and add organic matter to the soil.

Not much at least not much on the front half. The transmission is Oliver, so I am familiar with that.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris say you got one for free, but the engine needed overhauled. Would you overhaul it? They don't have a normal tub, just flat plates. Do you know if you could put a Cummins it?

@@bendunkelman4853 from what I understand, engine parts are getting hard to find for the engine. I would assess the engine and see what parts it needed and if I could find them all. I like originality, so if I could rebuild it I would go that way. I have seen a 2-150 with an 8.3 Cummins, so it can be done, but it might be more work with them not having a tub. Free is free, you could get a tub from an Oliver and bolt that to the rear end. Then sheet metal would be the next challenge.

The other side was previously farmer fixed. I'm guessing when that broke, this side was cracked. My brother said he can weld it up and make it look good. I got a replacement from Maibach already. Problem is, they sent a left side when I need a right. Maybe I'll have my brother weld this after all.

@@timfeckley1689 it's a good thing the swear jar was right there. I told her I needed the right side and that it's not the same as the left. I gave her the part number. The part number for a right is on the invoice. It's definitely a left. Guess who is getting a call tomorrow.
