Finally watching this after putting it off for 2 years because I hadn’t played the game yet and didn’t want spoilers. I can’t believe Fraser made a character with perception SO shit that he didin’t notice the giant broken window in his own hotel room, that’s hilarious. It’s super interesting to see how the authoritative trait (something my character is SHIT at) make you come off as charming to some people. My play through went immediately much more tragic because of the tape player and mirror interactions.
I suppose an authoritative/intimidating cop could be funny or entertaining in the sense you can see how characters respond to someone who isn't a doormat. So if you are annoyed by Cuno, you get that catharsis of putting him in his place.
This was great. The rigth kind of Cynical writing, with the rigth amount of fun. Fraser, if you want more RPGs like this, (the ones were you actually role play) you should have a look at the whole genre of cRPGs, all of them have similar amount of depth in your character choices. You have alerady heard about Divinity Original Sin 2 (and 1, but 2 is the one which is really amazing), fun fact Larian, the devs of Divinity, are the ones making Baldur's gate 3. There is also (on the modern side of thing) Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2, Pathfinder Kingmaker and a new sequel coming out, Torment: Tides of Numenera (this one is on the same world of Planescape Torment), and some others. On the classic sides you have: Baldur's gate 1 and 2, Planescape Torment (this one 100% story based, while other are mostly classic D&D story + combat), Neverwinter Nigths, Icewind Dale Etc. This genre is, in my experience, the true RPGs and what I which triple A RPGs achieved. Imagine this amount of choices and customization in a 3d world with voice actor and all that. Sadly, as we saw with Cyberpunk and The Elders Scrolls/Fallout, triple A RPGs are focusing on making the ilusion of choice big and the actual choices just a far off desire.
Disco Elysium is the perfect evolution of games like Planescape Torment. Older cRPGs were still stuck in their D&D formula, often shoehorning in needless fights and long dungeons as padding. Disco Elysium is the first game who completely does away with it all to just tell its story and only uses an RPG system for its dice rolls and character building. It works perfectly.
It's a shame the glitches and issues you had with the controls on this - I played on PC and don't think I had any issues, must be problems with the port. Good game though, I'll watch if you play more.
Been playing this for the last couple of days. A few things are different to my game. Wondering if the character build sets up the game board in a slightly different way. Pretty cool.
