Discord is getting Clan Tags, but why?

Clan tags should work like if your adopted tag gets changed, you need to adopt it again. So you won't be trolled by a funny Clan owner.

The funny thing is, this was actually enabled for Discords Wumpus Feedback Squad server while it was shut down a few weeks ago before it was even datamined. Staff had these clan tags on the member list. Kind of weird that it was released to a closed testing server for some reason.

I love how when setting up the "gaming guild🤓" there's an option for "LGBT friendly" which of course implies that by default they are not LGBT friendly

Clan feature will probably be for Nitro users. Like most of the features for Clans (colors, banners, etc..) will mostly be for Nitro users. Every new feature seems to just be for Nitro users now.

This is so confusing considering normal servers are known as guilds in the code...

as someone on an esports team, im personally excited for this feature. people aren't forced to use it, it's just there if you want to rep your team and get some recognition which helps getting tryouts etc. the problems arise when people are gonna use it for unintended ways. i.e. not actual teams or groups, which I completely agree with needs to be either heavily moderated or a system put in place so clan tag owners can't willfully change it without the holding user's permission, as I know most people will want to get a tag regardless if they're in a team just because it's new and flashy. I will say with this change, i'm glad discord is sticking to it's roots and still marketing towards gamers rather than the general population. Seeing twitter go from this really unique app where you could meet different people and grow easily to this pay to win, far right, impression farming confusing mess of an "everything app" elon wants it to be is kinda heartbreaking but im glad discord is finding it's own ways to develop it's niche without falling into the trap of trying to appeal to everyone at once. but that's just my take ofc.

Wow good thing they added clans, it's not like they already had a feature to group a bunch of people with related interests into the same virtual space. Seriously why don't they just let everyone set their own four letter tag and that's that? Would avoid the problem you pointed out.

the clan tags and clans in general is gonna cause so many problems but i personally would love to host a clan to get people to play like monster hunter or smth every monday or something, or it could be used as a public dnd server with the applications making it easier to find players. i kinda like it

Funny enough as a large gaming clan, these feature sets theyve been rolling out are actually useless. Already established groups, especially those who are larger than 200 members, will not benifit from this since it only works for the new clan servers. Only will work for fresh clans, or small ones who can migrate at the loss of some memberbase. All of the vetting features are things done by bots right now, and the clan tags are just added straight to peoples names. Even the pfp borders theyre rolling out are irrelevent since large clans will sometimes create custom pfp borders for member unity. Dont get me wrong the clantag linking to the discord feature is bad ass, but for existing larger clans its basicly useless as we cant use it. Will basicly lead to us having to make whole new servers whose only purpose is to give the tag, and set it to private so people cant join it as otherwise that would require moving of existing intake infrastructure and is again another inconvenience. Also, the clan servers intake features are not good, standard ticket bots allow for more personalized questions, and follow up dialogue and conversation. Many tickets have to be handled differently, and you want to be able to have cross dialogue with the applicants for either questions, directing them after, unique interigation as needed depending on the game, the list goes on. The whole new push from discord to roll out clan specific features is very detatched from reality, that most clans are not gonna remake their stuff and try and move members or they are of size that its simply not possible. Also, it hurts advertizing more than it helps. The meta game of advertising, the biggest groups get the highest passive clicks outside of other ad modification tactics. When comparing the standard clan size of about 50-200 against larger ones 1k+, many people simply go where they percieve power and a better gaming experience. Quantity attracts both quantity and quality. Clan life is largely about offsetting member attrition with new blood, and the number one reason clans die is because they cant do this and fade away, putting the max clan server size to 200 basicly hobbles ability to grow passively and reduces clan member redundancy by having less members who can come out of cryostasis at a given time and removing that potential energy to kenitic energy dynamic

they actually recently just patched the quests feature, you now have to have 1 user in the vc with you for it to work however I discovered you can invite the lofi music bot in to the vc and it counts

Isnt this straight up ripped from Guilded? Afaik whenever u make a server on guilded you chose the same stuff (except the clantag). Server games, Emoji and so on. Same as the applications stuff. You can manage the whole stuff there asw the same way as discord guilds…

I wish instead of all this crap they would instead work on a proper blocking system. the one that exists now doesnt fully ignore the person, it still gives you the crappy "you have a hidden message" pop up every single time they say something

They could make so people with the old tags keep them but they're gray or something, indicating it's been changed, and then make a notification to everyone if they want to use the new tag or not

If they make the option to do private gaming guilds, it would be really cool
