Discord Should Ban MEE6 Already! 

Quick little update regarding Mee6: I have been informed that only the Staff side of Mee6 gets paid. Therefore moderators and Sr. Mods do NOT get paid by MEE6. Sorry for that misconception folks!

Sending unsolicited advertisements to your DMs from MEE6 is already a final nail in the coffin.

This is horrific. I have seen others bots do this and get unverified + banned by Discord in a heartbeat. They must have some significant link to Discord staff to have this kind of favouritism.

The moment they put the XP feature (which, is exactly what I invited it for) behind the paywall, I kicked it out right away and went on writing my own bot for that tbh

This is especially annoying me, because while Discord blatantly ignores MEE6's breaking of ToS/other guidelines (music playing, gambling on App Directory, email/DM advertising, etc.), small bots (like mine) are instantly punished if Discord sees fit, sometimes even without good reason. (And support seldom listens to appeals.)

The problem is... MEE6 is too big now. MEE6 is by far the biggest discord bot, and a ton of people depend on MEE6. If discord suddenly bans MEE6, then you will have a lot of angry people, and I fear discord will ignore the issue so they don't have to deal with any drama that comes with it. And that's just going to make MEE6 worse...

Personally I think the CarlBot stuff isn't comparable to MEE6, you have to actually run a command willingly to do so. Most people (including me) have never heard of the issue command

I used Mee6 until they started getting into NFT's. I migrated most functions to a self-hosted bot, and switched to using YAGPD for self-assigning roles. While I personally don't have any issues with YAGPD as of right now, I might eventually look for an open-source solution for roles, as well.

Discord really needs to add auto announcements for uploaded content and role assignments to the client, so we can stop useing bots like these.

In my opinion the advertisement from Carl bot is fine because it don't send you dms randomly and post the advertisement randomly in chat, it only shows it when you run a specific command.

Bruh bot developers can;t even take honest feedback, the fact that they went for the bribe made them know that they were wrong

Considering how much bad history a lot of the overrated and well known bots, I think you should do a video of where you share some smaller bots that you think are as good as others. This can help pushing those bots to more server and therefor keep more people safe from the bigger badder bots.

honestly cant stand using public bots. the only ones i use are ones i cant build myself. created a ticket in the mee6 server and talked to them about it, and they dont really care as far as i can tell

Frequent user of Carl-bot here (and occasionally present in its support server as well as YAGPDB's) - I just want to clarify why the Roblox command exists. A couple of months ago, one of the current Carl-bot developers created a poll in the support server asking what new commands people wanted to see on the bot. There were a few options; music, levels, games, economy, and "other". The games option was referring to stuff for popular games like Minecraft and, well, Roblox, which makes sense, because Carl-bot does have some commands related to video games (most specifically Fortnite & World of Warcraft). Anyway, what had happened was that music & levels were actually the most voted options, but neither of them could be implemented - although the code for music had been created, it was at this point when Discord started revoking verification from music bots that allowed people to play RU-vid videos. Meanwhile, there was already an existing system for levelling on Carl-bot, but it was a premium feature & it would've required a major rewrite. As a result, they went for the most picked result that wasn't either of them, and that was games. They made a poll asking what games people liked playing, and most people said Roblox. That's why they implemented the feature - note that it isn't something that's FORCED on you like MEE6 DMs, but rather a command of its own that you can choose to use or not. As for what the Reddit post was saying about Carl-bot's support? It depends. It's definitely not terrible, but it can be strict at times. While it does make sense for that to happen considering both the bot's size and the server's size, I do still think they could loosen up a little bit; but again, it's not bad support, simply overly strict sometimes. Just reply to this if you've got any questions.

i would recommend polaris as a xp bot, it allows you to switch to its xp system from mee6 easily. As well as dyno for moderation

This is exactly why i been phasing out mee6 from my own server recently. Making most useful features payed, slower compared to other bots, sometimes not giving out join ranks and now advertising to user. Might need a few more bots to do all that mee6 does but in the end it will be worth it.

I hope the Sapphire bot is in good hands and doesn't have any bad ties like this. I wanted a multi-purpose bot other than MEE6 and was looking for alternatives. I stumbled across Sapphire and it seems really neat so far!

Hey, ex-support from BotGhost! My experience with BotGhost was good, contrary to what is being said here. I think there is a lot of misinformation here, and all the people who dislike BotGhost are being targeted as a sort of "revenge." Taking things out of context is also an issue, as is blindly trusting one person to give you negative information or views. I do think that providing an unban to remove negative posts seems like bribery; however, the false and negative impact, as well as harassment against the company, is what I've been seeing. I am unsure who did provide you with information, but I do have a guess, which I will not disclose. Most likely, however, they were immature and broke rules to the point of being removed from the support team. They were both removed for the same reason.He also broke the TOS, even after being notified to stop. He was eventually kicked off the server and tried to spread slander everywhere, including Twitter. I do not fully support BotGhost; however, there are some things I believe could be handled better, such as not providing an unban to remove them and simply ignoring it altogether. You could also look at it as them providing a solution to their issue. If they needed support so desperately, BotGhost would unban them on the condition that they stop trying to tarnish their reputation based on false accusations. I do know that all negative reviews are never removed, and I think this was just a bad experience. They had a review channel in their Discord server before and never deleted the bad reviews; in fact, I saw many of the management and higher server staff create threads and try to assist the users and accommodate them. I think the idea of "not trusting any good reviews because they bribe or remove any negative reviews" is a bit farfetched, especially because NTTS did not look at both sides of the story. I know the Fabian did not wish to comment on it, so I understand your assumption, but I also think that he didn't want to create controversy, as trying to "defend yourself" usually leads to more conflict. This is my take upon this situation with my experience with BotGhost. I know this comment may sound a little biased, but I promise it isn't, I've had my fair share of struggles with them as well, but I don't think it's worthy of posting and harassing them in their Discord server, then Twitter. Honestly, the carl-bot thing doesn't make carl-bot too bad (maybe the support server thing you said), because it's not like mee6 that's mandatorily advertising you.

I was about to invite the bot for my server to encourage people and make them happy levels, making it also a required option to complete a application for mods and stuff you know, but now you pretty much changed my mind about the bot.

I think the worst thing is that, having gotten a lifetime premium access literal DAYS before they abruptly announced that they were doing NFTs, and then them refusing to refund my purchase, I just kinda said "fine, I'll keep it around, but I'll tell everyone to not use it". Not once have I gotten this dm sent to ANY of the people in ANY of the servers that still use Mee6 that I'm in. It's baffling as to who, exactly, these "ad DMs" are actually being sent to, and how they're chosen.

I think MEE6 authorization requires WAY too many permissions to be granted to the bot if you want it in your server, it asks for permission to access your email, see what messages you send on discord, administer your server, see what servers you're in etc. That's way too many permissions to be granted and can also be risky.

I would remove MEE6 from my servers but it would be such a pain in the ass to set everything back up with another bot.

one time i remember sending a message to Mee6 saying "dude f**k off i don't want more messages" and blocked the bot not even a minute after i got a message from a random account with the description as "mee6 is #1" with the caption "I know where you live " legit insanity

What a fantastic reason to avoid bots altogether, unless you know the dev (singular, no multidev bots) closely.

I use Probot, Koya, or Arcane in my servers as alternatives, Mee6 was one of the first bots I encountered on discord, I hated it's countless level up messages and just the whole display of it.

I just gave up on all the "free" bots a while back, most have started to put features behind pay walls so in the end i just created my own bot, so i can have one good bot that works, instead of 25 that i use one function from each, or pay way to much money for.

To be honest I only use MEE6 for its Welcome and Goodbye feature xD I use following Bots: Birthday Bot (kinda obvious) Multiple Free Games Bots ( Free Stuff, EpicFreeGames & Free Games Bot) Pingcord (posts whenever 2 Gaming News Channels in Germany posts a new RU-vid Video) Hydra (kinda obvious too) PartyBeast (creating temp. VCs to keep the Server clean) WidgetBot (to show all the Gaming News Related Stuff on my Webpage) Xenon (to create BackUps) Zapier (posts RSS Feed of a Gaming related Newspaper) It is easy to say that I use most of my Bots to get Information for PoI, thats why I have a whole Catagory for: - Gaming News (Text & Video) - Free Games - Release Calender - Gaming Events (such as gamescom, Game Awards and so on) - Shift Codes for the Borderlands Folks like me - JellyFin releases related to my JellyFin Server to inform my friends whenever a new Movie, Series or Episode is released on my JellyFin Server

I hate mee6 too and generally block bots that DM me (why is this not a setting?), but the terms are somewhat vague, and their arguments can be understood as compliant with the terms. If they are as close with Discord as you suspect, they talked with them about it beforehand.

Every time a friend has asked me if they should buy a bot for their server over some feature that should be integral, I just tell them to look for another free bot because invariably some other bot offers that feature for free.

The even sadder part about MEE6, it wasn't even working properly when they started advertising people to vote for them. We would talk and talk in the server I was in but we would not level up for anything until about 2 months later

discord absolutely has gone out of line, They even disabled my old account without sending me an email containing a reason, after emailing them asking what the reason was, they had only responded with "your account was disabled for violating our terms of service" like no shit

Tried MEE6 once a few years ago. It's a sentient, malevolent gargoyle of a bot. It is the Furby of discord bots. Friend was dead set on getting MEE6 for moderation purposes (someone did a bit of trolling in the server, we needed some decent firepower). Bloody thing kept saying "GG leveled up to lvl2" at inappropriate moments during conversations. Screw that, yeeted it out the server within a day. Told my friend we would use Dyno, no problems since. Dyno doesn't bother us, we ask very little of Dyno. Only ever needed 4 commands from Dyno: purge messages, mute, ban, and cat. Cat gets used a lot.

Okay, I didn’t think this bot had so many problems to begin with, Goddamn. I’m not someone who manages the bots in servers so, I don’t have many experiences regarding bots that I know should be addressed. A major problem that I encountered with MEE6 was purely a social flaw. I’ve vented on Discord quite a lot and have involved myself in other people’s heart to heart conversations. It’s when someone is talking about being depressed or hopeless and then suddenly this bot’s like “GG @Someone, you just advanced to level 5!” And depending on the person/people present and severity of the situation, they would either laugh it off or be like “Wow, thanks a LOT, MEE6 bot for fixing the situation” and it’s happened a lot.

Expecting Discord to do ethical practices is like asking flat-Earthers to drop their beliefs. It's likely not going to happen.

I mean while I used MEE6, I've never encountered any form of harassment, bias, or any sort of unprofessionalism from their moderation team. So it surprises me to see people claiming that MEE6 is "evil"

i was once thinking of making a small bot that automatically turns epressions like "I will do this in 15 minutes" into a timestamped message automatically. Ofc that bot would need extensive admin rights to edit other peoples messages, but i think it could be a fun little tool

I actually like yagpdb, they don't advertise or ask for any money and have very few paid features. They're part of botlabs but other than that they are perfectly fine. If there's something I don't know of, well I don't know of it and it hasn't affected me or my server members.

I pretty much only use Carl for reaction roles that don't dm you upon use, and moderation logs, because as far as banning and such goes, I just use the built-in functions, I don't get the point of why bots have ban commands when the button is right there in the Discord UI Maybe I'll switch to Dyno idk

I'm so glad these people behind the chaos of these bots get what they deserve. I was actually a part of the BotGhost server at one point, and sure enough, I got banned for leaving a negative, yet honest review. $100 a year just to make a bot without coding?! I could literally host a bot on Replit with a pinger for free. And MEE6 is just going down this neverending spiral of lying straight to people's faces, and it's disgusting. Carl is fine for now, but I know that it'll get worse.

I remember when MEE6 was doing this. I stopped talking in or just str8 up left servers that used it because I was getting constant pings from the bot. I tried just blocking the bots messages, muting the dms, and whatever else I could think of to get it to stop pinging me. It got to the point Discord pings from anything would stress me out. I ended up just not using discord anymore for a couple of months and tried to go back to kik. You know, because sometimes you feel removing a bandaid with a cheese grater is a better option. I eventually found reasons to come back and ended up deleting Kik for good

I feel like it would be a bit hard to ban it due to the fact that alot of servers depend on it, im not supporting them, but alot of servers would be in ruins (for a while) if it got banned.
