AA AAA C D 9v etc have resistors in them to limit the current, the amount of C batteries to produce a high enough current to start a car would be crazy. Look on a car battery, most are like 500+ peak amps.

Most 12v batteries will read between 12.2 and 12.7 volts. When the alternator is charging this will increase to a regulated voltage of 14.4 for 12v circuits and 28.8 for 24v circuits which is perfectly normal. 12v in a 12v battery actually means the battery has approx 25% charge, 12.7 being 100%. On 24v circuits you simply have two 12v batteries linked together in series to effectively double to voltage. Hope this helps.
Hmm, interesting. normally the negative is only used for negative current instead of powering. Thats why we get instructed to remove the negative lead when we change stuf on the electric loom. So that there is no full circuit. Seems a bit contradicting.
+Sword of damocles If you would TIG weld you would know all about current flow. Current flows from the negative side to the positive one. Here is a question for you, then why are fuses put on the positive side if the current originates from the negative one. = D
Removing either lead would have the same effect. No transfer from the battery can happen without both terminals. Electron flow is from positive to negative, while current flow is from negative to positive. They probably instruct you to remove the negative, because with things being grounded to the negative terminal, if you were using a wrench and had one end on the terminal, and the other struck part of the frame, nothing would happen. However, with a wrench on the positive lead, if you hit the frame with the other end of the wrench, you'd complete the circuit though it wouldn't shock you, for a long enough period, could destroy the battery, and weld your wrench between the two points.
So, technically, does this mean if your battery died, you could start the car once with, say 8C sized batteries in series? It just needs to power the starter for a second so the battery then recharges... Can someone reply and tell me if my theory is correct.
They should mention that hydrogen and oxygen form in this process. As you may know, hydrogen is extremely flammable and in combination with oxygen its what they use to power rockets. For this reason, you do not want any sparks/cigarettes near your battery or it could explode.

It's a sorry explanation for how a battery works; and some of the information is skewed, and some of it is missing. For instance the electrons do not leave the positive terminal while charging, because then energy is not stored (it's leaving duh) in the battery. They do not cover exactly how the energy is created and stored in the battery, they only give the reaction with plates when it is discharged, giving you ill information about how it works. I'd like to see you build one w/this info.
I actually just watched to see what was on the inside of a battery..But I have never heard of a battery being charged by the alternator through the negative terminal and I've never seen a negative terminal putting out 12 volts...This video is very misleading..I work with electricity every day for a living even though it's high voltage ac ...Voltage always flows on the positive or hot wire the negative is the return..You will get amps on the negative but not voltage

the truth is, the current flows in the opposite direction as the elektrons because in electronics you always working with positive charge carriers, so if you load the battery a positive current would flow into the + but the electrons flow into the negative.
It ain't. We teach this in Grade 9 science. Electrons are moving your voltage around and they normally come from the negative terminal. In this case, you are reversing your flow.
