The Traditional Filipino Balisong has a long history steeped in martial culture and self-defense. In this episode, I cover some of the key principles and strategies that differentiate the balisong from other folding knives, with respect to its design advantages and overall purpose. One of the key principles that I drive home is the idea that the balisong, when deployed, provide impact capabilities that allows for non-lethal options during self defense scenarios. This makes it a unique tool in the Combatives toolbox, in that lethal force is used only with clear intentionality and as a last resort. I hope you enjoy this video!

Salamat po sir for showing the use of the balisong as it was intended to be.. primarily as a self defense weapon.. the utility function being secondary.. western culture abhorrence to violence had relegated this famed Batangas weapon to a toy ..concentrating more on fancy flipping twirling .. opening and closing.. neglecting its self defense function. The late great Hari ng Balisong of PH cinema Danny Labra showed how to open/close for quick deployment in knife fighting. Salamat po muli as you have been very informative..

Nice to see someone actually perform training with it other than spinning the damn thing didn’t realize that the balisong was this respectable as a blade

Thank you! It’s a “quiet” aspect of FMA that is not often promoted because the tool is considered illegal in several parts of the world. In reality, it plays a critical role in understanding the deeper layers of FMA. 🙏🏽

@@RolandoEstocada question if I wanted to learn blade skills what direction can you point me in unfortunately no one is practicing this in my location which is Louisiana it would have to be something online the blade is a very respectful art and in the right hands a lot more dangerous than a gun

Rolando today I wake up wondering why nobody had put a ring when make a balisong. Seriously you can open it a little quicker, great weapon retention. I understand that whit the "karambitmanía" of today at first sight can be saw like a living meme. I imagine as a DIY what combinations are better with the blade closed.

One of the things that stood out for me with the traditional balisong was the non lethal applications it also provides. In your unboxing video of multiple balisongs i commented i ordered a 24 cm and mentioned I'd like to get two with the eagles like you had in your unboxing but with narra wood inlays, well i was looking at the products from Ona's and what do you know there was a post showing exactly what i wanted. I made a comment and Almira (Mr Ona's granddaughter) messaged me right away asking if i would like to include them with my previous order, after considering my bills i said yes and bought two 29cm with the eagle and narra wood inlays to be shipped. I loved the demonstration you showed here, thank you for the video and i think I'll take a look through your videos. Have a great day
