Rose Island was an early 1900's Theme Park right on the Ohio River that is now part of Charlestown State Park. With over 100,000 visitors each year it was the go-to summertime destination. 4000 visitors per day were ferried to Rose Island from Louisville Ky. Activities included swimming, a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, roller coaster, golfing, a small zoo, and many others. Visitors could come for the day, stay in the hotel, or rent a cabin. In 1937 it was destroyed by a record flood and was damaged beyond repair. It was abandoned, and a few years later became part of the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.
