Northumberlandia, also known as "The Lady of the North," is an impressive land sculpture located near Cramlington in Northumberland, England. The sculpture is a large-scale figure of a reclining woman, created from 1.5 million tonnes of earth and waste material from nearby coal mining. Completed in 2012, it was designed by artist Charles Jencks as part of the restoration of the surrounding landscape.
The sculpture stretches about 400 meters in length and rises to a height of 34 meters, with the contours of the woman's form creating walking paths that visitors can explore. The design allows people to walk along her curves, offering different perspectives and views of the surrounding area.
Northumberlandia is a unique blend of art, landscape, and environmental restoration, symbolizing a balance between human industry and nature.
