I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m realizing I have always naturally gravitated towards what works best for my body. I’m a FN with high contrast so I like tousled hair, unconstructed silhouettes, deep color palettes, and rich textures. It’s just interesting to learn *why* I choose those things and why it works for me. Very well done!

As someone who acts and models, I see way too much of myself in photos and videos, and I can see when I look good or not so good/natural, but never really knew what was changing my look. When you talk about Janet Jackson posing, it was like a eureka moment- I'm the opposite. When I do a "soft innocent" pose, i look forced, and kind of mousy in some way. When I look more intense or mischievous, I actually end up looking more natural and youthful. I think that means it is key for me to keep some kind of "weight" or boldness. I am also high contrast and struggled to figure out what "natural makeup" meant for me, until I realized I could keep my colors a bit darker and it would still look less over the top than nude colors. Even though I'm in my early twenties and can pass for a teenager, I just look worn out and stressed when I try too hard to pull off the "innocent" look- unless I do it "my way". I'm a Theatrical Romantic in Kibbe with high contrast (pale skin, very dark hair) and I tend to feel most myself when I wear things in Weightless silhouettes and lines but with Depth colors and fabrics :)

It’s also encouraging to hear that you are able to take constructive criticism and to note that the principles you discuss are inclusive. TBH, I think that the idea that blondes with blue eyes have weightlessness overall is why some people characterize Taylor Swift as a (Flamboyant) Gamine type rather than her numerous characteristics that suggest she has a Dramatic body type.

i’m in the classic family, so it’s no surprise i have a blend of weightlessness and depth! i tend to come most alive with some depth though, which makes sense as a DC haha

This was waaaay easier for me to grasp than essence or body typing! I can see very clearly the mix/match with textures, prints and colors for myself ... probably 60% depth, 40% weightless 😊

I am a romantic body type and have a lot of weightlessness. I am pale with cool undertone. I look great in saturated colours, like blues, greens, dark grey, black. Pale colours make me look paler and uninteresting. I look terrible in tailored, structured garments and need more softness, delicate, flowy fabrics. I absolutely agree with the patterns: delicate flowers, botanical, etc.

I am a Romantic body type with a more yang essence. I've found that I do best balancing that blend by keeping flowing, rounded lines with primarily light fabrics (yin qualities) and the occasional silks around my face or velvets as skirts and most importantly vibrant colors (yang qualities).

My favorite thing about this approach is the freedom to mix and match. Weightless silhouettes flatter best (and the prints and fabrics work well), but the colors and textures of depth really feel like home? If that makes sense?

This was the best description of yang and ying essences that I’ve seen on any fashion channel. I wish I had found this video two years ago 😊

I really like that you include voice in your analyses because I do believe they are such a large part of a person's vibe. Just think of the silent film stars whose voices were revealed not to match their on-screen personas when talkies came in. (I've read some accounts that say such stories are rumors, and others than say they were true in some cases.) Think of how voices are chosen for cartoon characters. It's all so very interesting. All in all, it's important to put all aspects together, otherwise something can look off even if we follow one set of rules (be they for our coloring or our body-types). I recall a blog somewhere that reasoned Cate Blanchet was an ethereal rather than a dramatic because the "dramatic clothes" didn't suit her. But of course, it was simply because the colors and (possibly) patterns weren't well-suited to Cate Blanchet. For myself, certain makeup looks and hairstyles that should look good on me (if my belief that I am FG is true) don't. It makes you realize just how unique every person is.

im a soft natural with strong weightless qualities (high pitched voice, naturally soft spoken, low contrast features) but with a more assertive personality (not totally authoritative, just direct). i gravitate mostly towards depth in color and prints with some elements of weightlessness in lighter fabrics (im just starting to learn how to embrace this weightlessness in my expression). i have a weird balance in my closet, but with my oddly cheery and youthful but mysterious personality i like to convey openness and surprise + i enjoy the challenge!

I am so embarrassed, confused, and shook, I thought Catherine Zeta Jones was AMERICAN! 😭 I’m questioning everything right now. I’ve watched entrapment so many times. This explains many things. I'm FN with shy but goofy personality and true autumn, so my colors tend to be medium in depth. I guess maybe that's an okay balance? Why is there no dork essence? 😅

I am TR (so a lot of yin in me), but my essence is quite yang. Plus I don't have much contrast between my eyes, skin and hair. People say I have this regal vibe around me and I know it comes from my personality, so I need to bridge the gap between this yang part of me and my predominantly yin look. I noticed that I only look good in yin colors when there is some strong yang added-both by the material texture and yang pattern. But when I use yang colors I need to soften things by giving up yang material or yang print. So difficult considering I can only buy what's available in the shops!😅 Anyway, thank you for another amazing video!♥️

my facial features and flesh are definitely more yin (pale, light hair, light eyes = low contrast, fleshy arms and chest) but bone structure is yang (I've always been larger than my friends even at my smallest weight). my personality has always been described as a down-to-earth and grounded person. I definitely have a passionate/firey streak too when I care about someone. I love and care with my entire being which I see as very yang and intense. I like structured dresses with more flowy fabric. I need the construction because none just looks like a sack on me, but heavy fabric weighs me down and looks overly sexy and like I'm trying too hard. thanks for this video! It was so helpful!!

i think a video who talk about make up with body type/esssence will be so facsinating ! (if you're intereting of course :) ) i'm a romantic-ingenue with hight contrast(brown hair and eyes, pinky-pale skin). My essence is youthful with some deepness. one time my friends made her usual dark make up on me. But it's looked less good on me than her (she is a flamboyant natural). On me it's look "not true" like if i lost some thing. Usualy i don't wear make up, i Don't understand what could look good on me. Some time when i try to wear liner it's look " too heavy" on my face (i have short-bushy-low eyebrow i think it's too much compilation of yang in one part of face). maybe i should tried korean make up but i have the feeling it's too light. In short, i'm lost in make up univers. lmao. PS : thank for making all of this video, it's very facsinating to learn essence/body type through of your video :) !

I’ve struggled so much with feeling beautiful, or comfortable with my body, especially with how my weight sat on me and your videos are truly empowering! I always thought feminine was Yang/ depth and masculine was Yin/weightlessness because our society projects ideas of what a feminine women is, if that makes sense. But depth has never suited me much, I’m weightless and it’s time I accept it. I’m also soft romantic body type (loved your description of Drew Barrymore in your other video) my body isn’t overly curved- I again assumed to be romantic you had to look like Beyoncé or someone with bbl, because that’s what we all see on social media today. I’m so excited to incorporate all of your advice into my life, I struggle however with finding draping, soft weightless fabrics to wear in winter, I’m in London where it’s cold 24/7 and I tend to cover up. I wear more depth clothes and covered up because my soft features made me appear too open to people, I’m always approached by people. Men asking for directions would somehow try to ask me out, other men would try trap me on the bus and force me to sit besides them, so much shit I couldn’t stand. I’m a very soft and chill person so it annoyed me when I had to exert extra energy to keep myself safe, I guess I never realised I was using a lot of Yang energy through clothing, hiding my natural figure to protect myself outside. I really enjoy thinking about how to express the different aspects of my essence with my Soft Dramatic lines, and although I have somewhat of an elegant, slightly regal vibe in the way I subconsciously carry myself and move my body, I also have a pretty cheeky, playful edge to my humour! I think I can see those influences in my personal style Xx

I have heavy features as well as weightless ones. The best colors are rich ones but softened to not be so intensive. The same goes for fabrics. Slightly constructed and deliberatly shaped in clothes but soft and light and close to body.

This is so interesting, I find that my contrast and colouring has changed as I've got older. I had very dark hair and pale skin, but my hair is now silver (though with some dark streaks in it), so have less contrast. I do still gravitate to darker colours, but I need medium contrast and bright, but not too bright colours. Thinking of those ethereals, I certainly have aspects of luminous ethereals - I have been told over the years I am ethereal looking, which could be seen as weightless too. It would be good to know what you think of changing colouring as someone ages, and how that affects their style.

I've been studying your videos for a couple months now and learning a lot. But I felt like there was something else that I was missing and couldn't quite put my finger on it... when you posted this video, I immediately knew that this was just what I needed! Thank you!

As a possible TR, I’ve noticed that I feel my best in mostly weightless outfits, like a flowy and flowery dress, but with a smidge of depth coming from the colors and/or construction (such as a really tight waist). Also interesting, I’ve worn a totally light colored outfit, but the construction of the shirt and skirt were crisp and the white contrasted sharply with the pink and green. Not my best look! So it was too deep in construction and contrast of color. This is a unique perspective for sure.

My mind just kept jumping around through the decades of style I've been through (today is my 66th birthday :)) I would describe myself in Kibbe terms as a soft dramatic and through this video I was able to identify how very yin I am but I do have to be careful - not pastels or frills but not black angular leather either.

Can you please start an ASMR series???! You're voice would be amazing for it, very soothing.

This is fantastic and so helpful! Subscribing :) I’m a Deep Autumn (I think) with dark eyes and hair, and I’ve always wondered why I don’t look that great in deep colors...that has always baffled me. I love black and dark colors like maroon, plum and navy (people around me are pretty sick of that), but when I do wear softer, lighter, more muted/dusty colors I get a lot of compliments (I look really good in camel, soft rose, light purple). I don’t look that good in high contrast color outfits. I’m still not sure what my Kibbe type is, at 5’5 I can be pretty much anything, but I’m very similar to you Elyssa (in both coloring and fleshiness of the face and body). I do have abit more sharpness in my nose (and my chin is abit pointy), and my shoulders get sharp and narrow when I am thinner. I might be TR but I don’t have the thin, structured faces seen in TR examples, my face looks more similar to SG 🤷🏻‍♀️ And I’ve been dressing DC and N all this time, wondering why I look so...frumpy.

The thing is you can not change your essence watherver you do. Yiu don't loose depth even when you age and you don't loose weigthlesness it not just a fizical trait, like you saied it is the voie, the gaze, the manierism

Thank you so much for your videos! They are very informative. I'm still working on my interrelations. My body shape and facial features leans more on ingenue, however because of my personality, voice tone and resting angry face, I have more depth. So far, what I've noticed is that I can't wear clothes that are too-crisp or tight on my body. Loud details drown me because of my petite figure. I look quite good with weightless materials but the colors must be rich and lean on to the Yang side to complement me or else I'd look dull. I think I'd try other Yang materials as well to see if they'd look good.

I'm considering getting myself a consultation for my birthday in January.

Can you do a video on romantic essence like the one you did on ingenue one , cause I feel like romantic essence is the perfect combination of depth and weightlessness and depth while classic ,gamine and natural something of their own . dramatic and ingenue are too extreme . Concept wardrobe has written an article about romantic essence for refrence .( Not the kibbe one , mcjinsey/kirchner one) with Aishwarya Rai , Liz taylor and Christina hendrick . With that you tell us how to identify if we have romantic essence with modern pop culture and just everyday references / metaphor and also how to dress for it .

This partially explains why the olsen twins look so washed out in their less youthful style. I've heard many times that they look like witches and maybe not in the best way. Their earlier, more youthful and lighter carpet looks really bring out their beauty.

I am soft dramatic, in body type, but a soft, serious natural person. Love farms and animals. Trying to pinpoint my style.

I would love to see celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Simone Ashley, Lupita Nyong’o, Gemma Chan, and Michelle Yeoh compared as they all have very different essences but are so beautiful. I also see a lot of the videos on style typing are very white washed so I love seeing this.

I see so many comments saying “ I’m jealous….” Bla bla why are you jealous? That’s so toxic to your soul. Stop being jealous! Use what you want as motivation to keep learning about your essence, style etc.

Hi Elyessa. Great video - I love all your videos. You're a great teacher who always gives me homework, ha ha! I never really thought about depth and weightlessness, however, I must be the weightlessness type. I would also like to see a Caucasian women that I may be able to identify with. I have also been watching videos by Imogen Lamport from Australia called Inside Out Style. She refers to dressing for personality types based on the Myers Briggs Personality System. Her system is based on dressing for your personality and not body shape. Have you heard of this? And if so, what are your thoughts? Now to answer your question I suppose I naturally gravitate to most of the items you mentioned regarding weightlessness without realizing it. I do adore ombre eclipse patterns, soft muted blended patterns, anything lacey and flouncy, all things sparkly, ha ha!! Guess I was doing all of this right without even realizing it, ha ha!!

I'm a deep autumn (I do have some neutral tones but overall it is warm and fits into this category). I am petite and curvy (hourglass, not overweight) and do well with rich colour and things that show off my figure (not necessarily low cut shirts and short shorts) but my personality is more quiet and shy with a bit of flirtiness and youthfulness. It's difficult because I feel like apart from my personality, I would do well in bold looks but unless they have a hint of feminity, it looks like I'm trying to be someone that I'm not. I don't have that strong woman "wonder woman" vibe about me, I'm much more soft and subtle. I'm going to be going on a binge to try to figure out what I am. When covid ends, I really want to go clothes shopping because I don't have a lot of clothing and this will be very useful. Sorry for the long comment and thanks for these vids!

This was so interesting! Where do you think someone who gravitates toward bold, bright colors and patterns would lie? I'm thinking someone who pops in electric blue, cherry red, orange, very graphic prints... Someone like Rita Ora or Jameela Jamil when she wears her awesome power suits. This is a great video !!! I am 31 and have just found what seems to be the style I was supposed to have all these years. Anyone interested in my journey, continue reading. Maybe i could inspire you if you have similar features! I am 1,60m (5"3) with a kibbe Soft natural body type and what I suspect an ethereal +romantic essence. I look younger for my age but i am regurlarly told that i am also ageless because of the wisdom i inspire. I am no one without my black eyeliner, that defines my eyes and gives me a piercing look. Other than my artificially enhanced eyes, i have nothing striking -i look sweet but my face is also one of a kind. Not in a bad way, but i find that my face can't go unnoticed - you either love it or not. I need colour to my face to add fleshiness and to look alive -amber rose blush and colour to my lips. I look horrendous in contoured or sleek makeup. I have a forehead that is a bit longer than average, taut skin, ginger middle length, thick hair that falls in natural vintage curls, a small nose and a defined jawline. My lips are average in terms of thickness and my face is quite oval. I get most complimented about my hair, eyes and jawline. Colour palette is probably bright spring. (Golden very pale skin, ginger hair and brown eyes). Now what i have found look food and bad on me : Pale colours wash me off. I get most complimented when I wear vibrant black, red and green. Mostly black. I find that lightweight materials only look good on me, as well as minimum details. Strong, bold patterns and materials overwhelm me. I need light fabrics but stronger colours, otherwise I disappear. I also look terrible in tailored outfits. Although not narrow nor tall at all, I find that I look best when I honour my sensual body (hourglassed) with garments that make me look dreamy (mesh, chiffon, silk). Over the top sensual outfits and makeups look too bold on me and looks that are too angelic wash me off, so I find that I need a mix of the two. I used to dress laid back only, with no makeup nor jewerly and I believed that it should fit my body type, soft natural, and my relaxed personality and lifestyle, but I always looked unmemorable, girl next door to a fault. Ever since I started dressing to accentuate my hourglass and to elongate my silhouette, everything changed for the better. Without me saying anything, everybody I meet says that I look expensive, poised, collected, wise, sensual. I was also told that I looked "vintage" - like a Hollywood actress with the shape and colour of my hair, my body and my face features. And I find that I act accordingly as a result. I feel much more poised and elegant indeed now that I have this look. And that's because of the colours, textures, materials and garment styles I started wearing.

That was a great video! I've just noticed I have a lot of depth about myself, and that's why people perceive me as having a strong yang even though my facial features are not that angular. I think in my essence the depth doesn't appears as much as in the physical appearance, in the essence I think it's 50/50, or at least I have some 40% of weightlessness

My coloring is Yang. My face shape is yin . I’m at a loss

I cant figure out my type on my own. I am short (157cm) I have high voice, I am really delicate, and slim. And I have slender face. When a type matches for example my height, it doesnt match the shape of my face or my figure. But I do know that I need to wear slim pants but I can wear some loose blouse on top.
