Part 1 of a tour through the charming coastal city of Redcliffe, Queensland. Today we're taking a quick look at the suburbs of Kippa Ring, Clontarf and Clontarf Beach.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Brings back memories. My wife and I along with our three children (two more followed later) moved to the peninsula from Sydney in early 1979 and started a carpet cleaning business. We lived in Kippa-Ring for the first four years just behind the Captain Cook Tavern. It was very much still undeveloped then with the rubbish tip being along Klinger Rd where the PCYC is now. I remember the peninsular was the only place where shops remained open on Saturday afternoon but closed on Wednesday afternoon. The older kids all went to Kippa-Ring primary school and then Clontarf. We then moved to Woody Point where we lived until 1994. Got to have a lot of contact with people in the process of going into thousands of houses to clean their carpets and become 'immersed' in the community 'web'. Some were quite prominent and well-known names from owning businesses, medical practitioners etc. Even cleaned Mel Gibson's parents' carpets shortly after he had made the first 'Mad Max' film. I didn't know who he was at the time. They lived at a house on the northeast corner of Oxley Avenue and Arthur St.
Oh 😲 Thanks for sharing such a great memory. Yes we remember the closed shops on Wednesday arvos, and the Saturday night and Sunday arvo laps all the young fellas used to do in their pride and joy. The police always waited near Suttons Beach and got their ticket quota. It has changed a lot, but still retains that familiar sense of 'home' for us.
Ah....Yes the address is Elizabeth Avenue, but the School fronts Snook Street. At least that's what Google maps says. But then they're not always accurate. Eliz Ave starts at the school car park, and angles in towards the cemetary. We thought Snook Street would be easier for people to find if they're new to the area. But thanks for your correction. We appreciate you taking the time to watch the video.
Mate I have lived behind the school since 1972. I know the area very well. Google is so far from accurate it is not funny. I have 3 outstanding requests for google to correct errors that have been going for several years.@@MakinMiles-cx9sm
@@MakinMiles-cx9sm Remember there were changes made to the road there. Snook St use to be a totally separate street before it was 'merged' into a continuation of Elizabeth St as a wider road. There use to be a car dealers (Newcombes) at the little 'kink' in Elizabeth St as it went up the hill past the cemetery.
