Today i was meditating in the forest and a deer approached me and made friend with me. She sought eye contact and there was an intense desire to communicate and soft head movement and moments of rejoicing where the deer would wag its tail and kept peacefully eating . It really wanted to be me friend. I believe it sensed my state of mind relaxation.

Here is my understanding of this principle. Those engaged in the unskillful behavior you mentioned, are creating for themselves dark kamma which shall be experienced as unpleasant results later on. These people have to be stopped as soon as possible from creating this dark kamma for themselves, by helping them as well as we can as an enlightened society. It is all about point of view with kamma, and it was as a teaching not intended as apologetic, or to "explaining away" social injustices. :)

Good video. Very well. Very true. Very good presentation of basic Karma science. It's a pity people don't believe it and scientists don't explore it. Karma is very real and it is important for everybody to know and apply this knowledge in their lives, both in this lifespan and in the next ones. We may use Karma to shape our lives, experiences we get, and through purification practices we can heal our bodies and minds from all kinds of illnesses, like cancer or schizophrenia. It is possible.

I have read 4 noble truths & 8 noble paths many times so far & conceptually i have understood it, but wanted a tool to practice. I mostly play games in my iPhone & I searched for Buddha related apps & I saw one interesting app called "BuDhamma" by Lokesh Hanumappa. I think the slight or rather big problem with the theory of karma is that it can explain away social inequalities. Somebody being attacked, raped or abused or one country suffering or being exploited by another might have sound economic reasons. Or perhaps I have misunderstood this. If no state of being is related to anything other than the individual then blame or suffering can't be attributed to another.

yes, bad misfortune in this lifetime is explained by bad Karma, however, it is important to note that bad karma carried over from a past lifetime can still be altered in this lifetime or in future lifetimes. So there is no determinism in life. An African refugee that becomes an entrepreuner in America has vanquished his bad karma and generated good Karma in this lifetime. The African refugee that dies but is a virtuous person will be reborn in a higher state. But successful beings can work

It is a very good question, Simeon, I had similar questions regarding that aspect of karma. It was explained to me in a very good way which I unfortunately have forgotten myself. Basically, the status you are in does in deed reflect the result of your past karma BUT and it is a big but, that doesn't mean you have to remain there or suffer because of it. You can still fight for injustice wherever you find it. Good karma doesn't give you the right to abuse others. I don't know if I made any sense.

First, there is personal karma. It is considered as yours and the lives you have lived before. But even Buddhists themselves are quite divided on reincarnation and that stuff. So Zen people say your Karma changes you and your personal environment (scientifically said: neuronal changes -> acting and feeling). Then there is a certain world karma, where it can only be said, that the taking of ones belongings (life, property) makes someone else richer or have more power that they abuse.

Understanding karma, practicing the 5 precepts and 10 wholesome deeds is good, but it is not enough to give you true peace of mind. Only through repentance and regret can you be of any help to others. This also involves learning to forgive and forget which is much harder to do than simply 'not harming others' and staying within yourself. Eventually you have to deal with your personal demons or even other people's demons. Nobody on this earth has been perfect.

Buddhism is just like all other world religions where they talk about a return of some Buddha. The reason for the lack of any real enlightened individuals is cause some Buddha long time ago, like 5000 years ago, foretold that the true meaning of Dharmma would become lost and this returning Buddha would bring back the knowledge of the true Dharmma. The sad part about this whole religion/philosophy is it is the closest to being "correct", I see all religions as having part truths, but they put too much dogma onto their followers. Also, the old transcripts that talk about Buddha seem to have the part skipped over about how the Buddha was more for answering questions, if he deemed it as beneficial to his students and understood that somethings we must learn for ourselves. I wish them all the best, though, and hope they will come to find their path.

Seth Evilsizor i dont think most of schools of buddhism put to much faith in anything other than being in the present, but i know some cultures have warped it to have the message you speak of. i think a lot of zen buddhism is quite barebones, especially because they go as far to say we all have buddha in us, just as the ability to be fully awakened by connecting to your true nature. other traditions like theravada keep true to the more "cultural" aspect that buddhism brought with it, but at the same time limit themselves by being too conservative in the tradition they have been scuffling up the last 2000 years. all i know is, i am happy i have had the chance to learn the teachings of the buddha and test the truth of the doctrines through direct experience. i know the buddhas way is a noble path that is only fruitful and very understanding to the nature of reality. i personally as a buddhist have never really been bothered by the idea of a returning buddha. its actually very true, because the buddha is just the one who comes back to remind whoever will listen about the true dhamma. you might notice the purpose of "returning buddhas" once you realize how as the dhamma is universal, any world system with sentient beings that exists in the universe would have buddhas if they have cognition similar to humans and ponder the universe as we do. at some point, if humans are still around in a long long time, it wouldnt be surprising if we forget about the dhamma as a race, and a buddha comes to start a revival. thats all a returning buddha is. no one views a buddha like a returning christ, at least i hope not.

Seth Evilsizor It's funny that I read this comment today. I am a different person that I was 8 months ago when I first wrote it. I am pulling from numerous sources to be happy and fulfilled. I am watching videos made by Christians, atheists, and whatnot. I don't think the school of Buddhism I am part of has all the answers. Maybe they do offer everything I need but I still feel it's not complete. I think Buddhism comes up short when it comes to addressing addictions. You can't wish them away or tell yourself Happy Happy Happy! You have to understand the underlying causes and take it head on. I rarely see Buddhist masters talking about addiction and how to effectively deal with it.
@thelordlyone1977
@thelordlyone1977 9 лет назад
mahadragon An addiction is just an over attachment, to some particular habit. Basically, you're creating a false sense of need towards something and anxieties rise up to let you know, as it sees it as life or death. Or it could be something as simple, as a continual constant search for distractions against our pervasive sense of aloneness. I did want to express that the same day you posted, I was typing up a message myself, but decided against, as it was not constructive, in the least. Good luck, Sir! Peace, Seth

Simple way to understand how karma works. "You posses whatever from a tree that you planted in your past. You can eat its fruits and you also have to clean mess that tree causes. "
@vongjoonchong2882
@vongjoonchong2882 11 лет назад
`Karma` simply means what is done in whatsoever form.`Cause and effect` then just denotes anything done will definitely give rise to the equal consequence . A seed of some fruit planted may result in the harvest of the same fruit but not some pumpkin.The Law of Karma is many a unbelievable thing sometimes described as inconceivable. If you see more other people be unfortunate than you are then you may see that the social inequalities are all not a coincidental occurrence.

in the case you are speaking of, being born in an unfortunate environment would mean that the conditions are right for one's negative karma to reap the rewards... similarly, if you consider someone with a lot of negative karma, but gets born in a prosperous environment, then his negative karma may not ripe in that lifetime since the conditions aren't right.. karma is only 1 of the 5 factors which determine how things work.. look up 'the 5 niyamas in buddhism' for more info..

I see Karma as what science today calls quantum physics. It is manifestation from marrying the Mind: (thought, electric, pineal gland) with the Heart: (emotion/feeling, magnetic, pituitary gland) also the same as the unedited scripture from the lost book of Thomas, "Ask in My name with a pure heart, without judgement, be surrounded by, be enveloped by the feeling AS IF what you request has already occurred. Then be grateful". Christianity calls the thing that hold everything together Jesus. Science calls it the laminin molecule, Quantum physics calls that binder, the divine matrix. Buddhism has used the word Compassion to describe that thing that holds everything together. I find the similarities of everything from Science, Hinduism, Christianity and Buddhism reassuring. It means that we all come from the same place and we all have this truth in common.

Karma is the universal spiritual law of moral causation, a belief system preceding back to India and eastern-philosophy. Many spiritual societies have formulated karma into their teachings, and adapting to ideas such as; the belief of all experiences is a result of our influence, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Cause and effect and other sorts of vague metaphorical mumbo-jumbo. The philosophical implications of karma seems to be surrounded by alot of hazy unjustifiable elements. The idea of subtlety predicating universal events in the bigger spectrum of things is a principle for causation, the relationship between cause and effect, not karma.
@truth8307

Cause and effect is just a part of karma. It's not mumbo jumbo. Thinking that everything happened without a reason or "God did it" is unreasonable and mumbo jumbo.

"the highest intention" is what? What determines, who determines what the highest intention is? If we are striving for that, who's to say it is not coming from the ego? The highest intention, like absolutes in religion, can by its nature, destroy what is really good. Good or highest intention is not enough. A highest intention would be a response, likely learned or conditioned. Unconditional love is just that -- a reaction or response that is not learned or conditioned. It is a direct reaction.

In Tibetan Buddhism which developed in the 9th century CE onward, karma sounds like the Hindu concept or karma. In fact the later developments of mahayana Buddhism in India (between 4th and 9th century AD) absorbed quite a lot of the concurrently developing Hindu philosophy (including tantra). To a point where it became difficult to distinguish Buddhism from Hinduism. But before that, in the early Buddhist texts, the Agamas and the Nikayas, karma is not explained in the same way... And in particular it is made clear that not everything is karma. It's quite interesting actually.

No, Buddhism don't believe in any god. Gods are just beings of other worlds and the smart Jews created a God out of them. Here are some evidence, in no.2: 1) Jesus similarities with Buddha. Maya to Mary, miracle pregnancy to virgin pregnancy, birth during a journey home to from home, prophesied soon after birth, both had a disciple who betrayed them, walked on water, Gautama left the palace at age 29 and Jesus appeared at 29, Gautama became Buddha at 35 and Jesus died and resurrected at around 35 too, after they passed away, 500 arahants witnessed compilation of Buddha's teachings and over 500 witnesses to Jesus's resurrection etc. All coincidental ? Beside Buddha, Jesus also copied from Horus and Mithra. Surely they ALL cannot be coincidental. 2) Many of the Bible's mythologies was copied from older pagans, Greek, Egyptian or Hinduism religions(note the names too) E.g. Adam & Eve story similar to Atman and Jeewa, a pair of birds in Hinduism, big flood and survivor Noah/3 sons same as Manu/3 sons although cause of flood is different. Even the names of Abraham and wife/sister Sarah close to Brahma and Saraswathi beside having similar story. Regardless of which religion copied which, it proved this god is NOT the only true god or all mighty as it doesn't makes sense to create or allow more copies or religions.

Sometimes with Karma I get a bit confused. So if someone were randomly attacked and beaten, is it the victim's fault that it occurred? Did they draw that type of activity due to some feelings or past actions? Does this view absolve any wrongdoer of any negative actions they take against you?
@lovecloud1274
@lovecloud1274 9 лет назад
dmcarden from my rudimentary understanding, for the person who is experiencing being attacked, it is the ripening result of a negative imprint on his/her mind from a negative action he/she did in the past or previous lifetime. It does not absolve the person who attacked - this person has created a negative karmic imprint on their mind, that unless changed will likely ripen as a negative effect in the future. It is not the result of Person A's karma that another person acts the way he/she acts. Person A is karmically responsible for the experience he/she receives, but the other person is acting out of their own decision. I'm just a baby beginner, so my understanding is not be the best - i highly recommend these sources from which i consulted : next.berzinarchives.com/documents/common-misunderstandings-about-buddhism and www.berzinarchives.com/web/x/nav/n.html_2034651659.html

@nextari 6 лет назад
This stuff is all relative. In my understanding a lot of the teachings are to get your mind to stop it with all it's doings. So is it really true to say you are creating merit through doing? I don't think so. It does, but only to the relative degree that it stops bad habits of mind. Every awakened being I've heard says "there is no path" "you are already enlightened and are just not aware of it" There is no path to what you already are. You have created a path away from self. That is the problem. I think all the buddhist empowerments, etc can lead to a sense of lack, which creates desire and striving in the mind, putting it at unrest.

Well in fact if you communicate with your suppliers that you are not able to adhere to your previous contract and lay out a new agreement that you can honor, you are being truthful. I'm not sure that paying late is as much stealing as it is lying.

About the last segment: The company had problems with pilfering, and that was somehow related to the company not paying its suppliers on time, because both of those are types of stealing. So then the company threw its weight around and got its suppliers to agree to being paid late.How is that an example of right behavior? And isn't it kinda naive to think you can manipulate karma like that?

Happiness of all other good beings , there's a big change , if all good beings are happy , all evil is punished. Not created by the trinity . there is a thing from which all life is created. , the raw material of life , good energy , with love being a source. Enlightenment in Buddhist is exciting. ,is there a creator of the .system in which you live and believe. Karma is newtons law , action reaction.,, if I pay at a store ,I get an item. Meditation is like money for your soul.😀😀😉😈😈

No, Buddhism is completely different from Christianity. Buddhism don't believe anything can "forgive your sins".

Not every thing has a why! Some things just exist without any deeper reason behind. But Buddhism - like any other religion - felt the urge of humans to know, and just created an artificial Why themselves.

Buddhism does not emphasise " why " which means the purpose of every things , every phenomena . It wants to know the root , the cause of those , especially suffering . To know the root in order that suffering can be destroyed .by using the right method . The sufferings comes from your mind , from mind an bad habit intentionally cái caried out ( karma ) cause sufering to yourself Or others

That is why when people ask Buddha the metaphysical question , such as where the earth comes from , ... Buddha refused to answer , He said those questions do not help relieving sufferings ( dukkha)

You are mistaken, the Buddha don't create artificial answers. He don't even answer useless questions.

I love how the first student felt bad about lying because she was told it would end up impacting her, and not because she caused suffering to other people...

like to give clue to understand what karma is. cant you remember the bad things you did in your life. when you remind it, whole picture will come over to your mind and make you suffer for doing that. that is karma. every thing what is said and done is deposited our inner mind and come over to the external mind time to time and make us suffer. that is karma. if this remind to you at the time of your death no so call all mighty god can stop you birth in a position suitable to the sin.

Christian priests don't quote the Buddha. Buddhists quote Christ. Love they neighbour as thyself.

Of course not, the church is afraid their followers will find these truth: 1) Jesus similarities with Buddha.
