Remnants of historical Parramatta can be discovered within today's modern commercial centre.
Parramatta has more heritage listed buildings than Sydney's Rocks area.

The church at Wentworthville Presbyterian was the old presy church in parramatta but was moved when they needed a larger building!

Thanks for your comment, it sounds as if you are very much an insider, which we of course are not. It’s not the first time someone has added details about a church’s life, which we were unaware of.

It is not just people like ourselves that keep history alive, you who show an interest, within your community, are an essential part of the equation. We are particularly excited with the number of views the Parramatta videos have received so far. After two years or so of producing videos on Sydney suburbs, understanding, what makes a video with a number of views, still escapes us. My guess at present is that Parramatta may have a stronger sense of identity and community than others, but then again, it might just be a larger population? It’s all up for discussion.

I'm fairly familiar with these Parramatta streets that contain interesting historical buildings...but I didn't know half of the buildings listed in your video. And I didn't know the history or significance of many others. eg. I was completely unaware that Linden House had been moved! Thank you for this presentation and the research required for it.

Thanks for your comment, it’s something that keeps us both working at further videos, particularly the Creator. We are very pleased with some our two videos on Parramatta and with Balmain. I would like to say that it says something about the people who live there, but we are never sure of that, for we are aware, that there are many who no longer live in the a suburb, but are, for a variety of reasons, nostalgic about it. Even after five years, creating the the videos, we only see, success or failure, “through a glass darkly.” We’re still waiting for North Sydney and other North Shore videos to show views, which might reflect their population. Our inspiration for creating Sydney suburban history, was that so much “history,” is focused on the City of Sydney. The hope of the side, culturally may well be women novelists who are pulling Australia’s not too distant past into their books, and getting it substantially correct. Our next video, perhaps in the next week, will be “Croydon,” which was suggested by one of our viewers. The Creator has been surprised with what sh’s found there. We are hoping that you too will be a little surprised as to what she has unearthed. We are a little surprised that RU-vid has told us that 50% of our viewers are watching on television, which may well account for the spike in viewers, after 10.00 p.m.

We are beginning to think you are not alone, as the number of viewers we have grows day by day. Particularly pleasing is that we have presented two videos on the suburb, one very specifically on history, ( not I might suggest the most popular of subjects in this day and age) and we continue to see an interest in that subject. It’s hard to go past the idea that it is something to do with civic pride and a sense of identity.

shame about willow grove being pulled down. Parramatta is such an interesting area, honestly don't mind it's quick growth except the demolition of heritage

Our Creator, whilst working on the Parramatta videos was very conscious of the streetscape being affected by the amount of construction work going taking place. Parramatta still tops the list, in our opinion, regarding the Sydney suburb with the greatest number of historic buildings and artefacts still standing. We are also pleased with the number of views they have received Parramatta videos have received on our channel. I would suggest, that this points to your not being alone, in your opinion. Thanks for your comment.

A question for our viewers. Why have our most popular RU-vid videos been on, Kingsgrove, Glebe, Parramatta’s an historical time line and discovering history, Manly, Ryde and Concord. We would like to hear your views, particularly if you are a resident, employed in the area, or were either of these in the past. Glebe and Parramatta have we suspect a great sense of identity. Having worked in Parramatta, a lunchtime stroll down to the Lennox bridge and to sit beside the river was one of life’s pleasures, but why we ask are you watching?

I have been watching many videos from across Sydney after finding your channel mainly out of an interest in history in general and not confined to any particular area.

@@kaz1578 Thanks for your comment. You are the sort of person we like to have as a viewer, for very obvious reasons. Perhaps you could respond by giving us a little more clarity on what, “not confined to any particular area,” mean? Do you mean “geographic area” or does it extend to ones which though in some way are geographic are focused on something specific, the “St. Peters Child Brickmakers” would be an example. We only ask in that we are a little disappointed with the number of views they attract. Thanks once again for your comment. Coming soon North Sydney!

@@stpeterscooksriver1873 I only found your channel a couple of weeks ago, so there are still many videos I still have to watch. I suppose initially I have been watching videos on places I am familiar with, but as time progresses I will look to watch videos of places I have no idea about. Great work with your channel. Oral histories and in your case visual recounts are a very imprtant way of documenting our history, pulling together all the threads resulting from your research.

A recommendation for those who return to a specific video searching for a particular point of interest. Use “precise seeking” use your finger, stylus or cursor to drag the red line at the bottom left of your screen to the right. You should then see small but very clear pictures of what is being played on the RU-vid video. After finding the picture you want, play it, or use “pinch and zoom” on a touch screen to enlarge the image for more detail. This you do by spreading or contracting the distance between your thumb and index finger whilst touching the image on the screen.

Parramatta is like a chocolate box where every treat you unwrap is more interesting, exciting and unexpected than the last. It’s quite disorienting the way the new Parramatta is trying to live with the old but I have the feeling that the town planners might just be able to hold it all together. They are clearing out the traffic, and with the right mix of parkland, historic points of interest and high density residential, it might be model for the future. Just as it was in the past!

Thanks once again for your delightfully civilised viewpoint. The Creator as she metaphorically waded through a mountain of information and pictures, in an effort to rationalise it, would often, refer to much that you have so succinctly made reference to. In short I think you’re on the same page. Good to hear from you again. Is there anywhere in Sydney suburbia, that you haven’t traversed?
