"Himachal Pradesh is not just a state; it's a feeling, a serene embrace of nature where the mountains whisper stories of timeless beauty."
During the month of August, Grade I and II students embarked on a captivating exploration of Himachal Pradesh, a state nestled in the northern part of India. The journey began with an engaging story of Radhika and James in which the students were introduced to the state’s breathtaking snow-capped mountains, lush green valleys and famous apple orchards, making them curious.
During the first week, students identified the state on map and located its capital, Shimla, often called the ‘Queen of Hills.’ They were fascinated by the idea of visiting famous cities like Dharamshala, Manali and Kullu, all known for their stunning landscapes and pleasant weather. The introduction to places like the Mall Road in Shimla, Jakhu Temple and the Naldehra Golf Course deepened their understanding of the place.
In the following weeks, they learned about traditional Himachali costumes, the famous Kullu shawls and the Nati folk dance. Students also discovered that the state is known for sports like paragliding and skiing, adding to its allure as a tourist destination.
The month-long exploration concluded with a vibrant exhibition showcasing the rich heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
The exhibition featured various cultural and traditional elements of the state and provided students with an enriching learning experience. Colourful Himachali caps and shawls captured students’ attention. A small food corner showcased the traditional Himachali food items like apples, dry fruits etc. that highlighted its simplicity and richness. To make the event more engaging, students were made to dance on the folk music of the state adding to the excitement of the young learners. The teachers conducted interactive sessions where students could ask questions about the state. The session was very lively, with students eager to learn more about the festivals, wildlife, and history of Himachal Pradesh. The event instilled a sense of appreciation for India's rich heritage in the young minds. The students left the exhibition with smiles on their faces and a better understanding of the unique charm of the state.
