Also, IU is a huge fan of Corinne Bailey Rae! She did an opening for Bailey’s concert in Korea years ago and in IU’s song Palette, she also mentioned “I still like Corinne’s music” in the first verse :)

IU definitely does almost every genre of music. You can try listening to “Jam Jam”! Her vocal style there really fits the lyrics. You can also try listening to “Glasses”, which I personally love so much. As an album, I love the album named “Modern Times - Epilogue”, which contains songs heavily influenced by swing, jazz, latin pop and folk (these styles are not much done by K-pop artists). For some acoustic/ballad songs, I firstly recommend “Through the Night”, which is one of the biggest hits in the past decade. “Secret Garden” is another favourite of mine cuz it really shows how pretty her voice tone is 😌 Lastly, “above the time” is an insanely hard song to sing so you might have fun time analysing the vocals hahaha. Even IU talked about how hard it is to sing live since there isn’t any breaks in the middle of each phrase.

Fun facts : -Hold my hand is IU first official self-composed/written song, released 10 years ago when she’s eighteen! -IU wrote all the lyrics for all her songs in love poem album but only the visitors that she both wrote and composed (you chose a good one👍🏻) -IU is a huge Corinne Bailey Ray fan. IU did her 12th anniversary last year on Sketchbook, a Korean tv show built around live performances. Sketchbook does not allow lip syncing, or any tracks. Everything you hear is done on stage. That show, aired on 9/18/21, was 100 minutes of live IU. She even did an unreleased song, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar. She drove herself to the limits rehearsing for it.

Being able to attend IU's concert and experiencing her magic for 4 hours and 30 minutes is the best thing that ever happened in my 27 years of existence. Been to dozens of concerts from western artists, our local artists and handful of kpop artists but no one holds a candle to the experience i felt in her show.

Did you mention Corinne Bailey Rae?? She's actually one of IU's fave singer! They met before when IU was just rookie-ish. IU even performed in Corinne's concert in SK before! They also have a song together, it's called 4am which is included in IU's Last Fantasy album, IU wrote the lyrics and the music and arrangement is by Corinne! She also said in her song Palette (title track of her album Palette) that she still likes and enjoy Corinne's songs! I'm so surprised you mentioned Corinne made me all happy!

I love how happily that concert started, but unfortunately it ended with tragic news and she had very hard time finishing it because of the news about her friend. i love how you mentioned corinne!!! iu's always listed corinne as one of her lifetime inspirations for music, and i remember thinking to myself that the visitor is the song best illustrating how much influence corinne has had on her music style when i first heard it. her voice too sounds a bit similar to corinne's here imo. you should check out 4am by iu!!! corinne composed that for iu when she visited korea for a concert back in 2011. :)

you can see how much energy IU gives her fans in her concerts. she has such great stage presence and makes it seem like she’s seeing just for you even though there’s 30000 people in the arena.
