DIscovering MAPPING in Path of Exile for the first time 

My man actually got 4x 6 links from his first rare mob in his first map.. then proceeded to leave them on the ground Peak new player experience right there :P

Leave the Karui shores and head to your hideout. You should have access to all the NPCs and the map device from the privacy of your own custom built hideout. It's much more comfy than being in the epilogue town.

Finding 6 links that early into maps is absolutely insane btw. nevermind that you found as many as you did off one monster. PoE "loot goblins" are great.

quick tip, always pick up 6 links, you can sell them to vendors if you don't use them for 20 fusion orbs

The things you've been calling "seasonal content" are not seasonal content, those are all core features that were implemented into the game permanently after first being introduced in a league. And that applies to many things you don't realize- shrines, strongboxes, tormented spirits, ascendancy classes, were all league mechanics once. Don't ignore these things, they are important parts of the game and your progression. The actual league mechanic for the current league is something you should be doing now too, once you reach maps is when you are supposed to start doing it.

If you hold alt while you hover mouse over a map, it shows whether you have completed it already. It's most useful in Kirak missions, as he often gives you maps you haven't found yet. And completing more maps means more altas passives. You should try to kill most mobs in a map. No need to run around looking for monsters if there are under 50 remaining, but you should kill most packs. Comparing to D4, maps are kind of like nightmare dungeons, you do them mostly for loot. And there are various league mechanics that increase amount of loot you get and often give some items that you can only get from said mechanic. For example breach (purple hands you found twice) spawns a bunch of additional monsters (more items and exp) and you get breach splinters and breach rings. Most league mechanics also have some form of a boss/hard content. In case of breach, it's breachlords, access to whom you get by collecting breach splinters. Breachlords drop uniques that you can't get anywhere else. For expeditions (explosive placement) you sometimes get logbooks, which have more expedition, expedition lore and expedition bosses. All 10 "main" mechanics work like that. Basically, you do them and if you like that mechanic and do it a lot, you sometimes can do better version of that mechanic. You also have essences, strongboxes, rogue exiles and tormented spirits. They spawn in maps, but do not have their own endgame, although all of these are rewarding. (rogue exiles not so much)

That was interesting to see newcomer in maps, and I agree that it's quite complicated. I try to collect here few tips: - 6-links collect always those, those are really good to have, don't vendor them but keep in stash so if you make another character you get right away 6-linked item for it. - For start I would recommend not to use map crafting at (when you put map you can select for example Fortune Favours the Brave) at start because Chaos orbs (what those cost) are common currency in trade. - When doing maps, "white" maps needs to be magic quality, yellow maps needs to be rare quality and red maps needs to rare + corrupted (Using vaal orb on them). - Items can 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes, I recommend enabling in Options -> Ui -> In items section, Show Full Description, that helps to see how many prefixes and suffixes you have, and then craft in crafting bench something good for yourself in spare slots. - Atlas Passives, I would recommend taking Essences and as many maps passives (more map drops) as you can at first

Man this begginner's luck is INSANE not only you dropped 4 6 links in your first map but you also dropped an insanely rare shield in that tier 6 map. lil tip btw you can have a map device in your hideout, if you go in decorations and search for it, you ll be able to place it and do maps from your hideout

All of us PoE players currently laughing because we knew once you started your first play through that you'd end up enjoying the game a lot. If people can make it through the first few acts they typically really start to enjoy the game, I know I did. I'm still a noob (250hrs) so tons to learn still but its just an amazing game.

just watched the entire acts and now this. definitely my favourite series of watching a new player get into poe.

A few tips: - you can spec into one mana leech node in your passive tree to help with your mana problems ( i think your guide also has it ) - for now, just enjoy mapping and exploring more maps. you will eventually discover minor and major bosses ( all of which can be witnessed by maven - you have read the names of these bosses at the end of this video ) - there are many more secrets and things to discover

Adding different sacrifice fragments with a map increases item quantity drop. Also if you get Scarabs you can add those into the map device as well. Also you can upgrade maps. You need chartographers chisels and orbs of alchemy. Use the chisels first to increase the quality 5% each time capping at 20% Then hit it with an orb of alchemy to turn it into a rare map. If you alchemy it first they will only go up 1% each chisel. So instead of spending 4 chisels you would have to spend 20. So always chisel first. Also you can corrupt the map with Vaal orbs but thats a gamble. It might increase the item rarity/quantity to a higher value like 120% to item quantity or rarity, it could stay the absolute same a do nothing, it can decrease the value of item quant/rarity and switch monster modifiers, or there is a chance that it changes the map into a different map(which i dont like due to specific item farming on certain maps.) However if you don't corrupt the map and you dont like the modifiers on the map you can hit it with a orb of scouring changing the map back into an unmodded gray map again still with 20% quality, then hit it with another orb of alchemy to get another rare map with new modifiers. You could use chaos orbs to just reroll a yellow map. But i wouldnt suggest doing that, as you will be finding all the other currencies I stated above much more often. Save your chaos orbs for things you want to buy, or for crafting. Edit: Btw corrupting just like with the maps as I explained above does essentialy the same thing as what it does with maps. It can add extra modifiers to a piece of gear making it even better, it can do absolutely nothing except putting a corrupt display on the item making it unable to be rerolled unless you have scourge currencies, or it might change the item into a different item of the same type. Like changing a legendary back into a rare of the same item type. Also what you are saying are seasonal aren't exactly, your half right. They are called league mechanics and they are just part of the base game, some seasons league mechanics were so well recieved they were just put in the game as event style mechanics that randomly appear throughout maps. Some you found through the campain but they are more frequent in maps and you can use the atlas to specialize in specific league mechanics you like through the Atlas,scarabs, etc. that way if there is a league mechanic you find you dont like you can specificaly remove it through the atlas tree. Wether or not you pick them (like the rogue exile) before starting a map doesn't mean it wont be in a map. All that does is force that league mechanic to be on that map.

The purple hands are called Breaches and they are one of my favorite mechanics :) As you saw when you touch them they spread out temporarily. When they spread they reveal monsters you couldn't previously interact with and tiny hands you can open like loot chests. There is unique loot types you can only get from breaches (mostly): Breach rings - these are just rings that are twice as good while you're standing in a breach. They aren't very good for general mapping content unless you specifically build around them with a special skill gem that's super rare. However! You can collect 60 (full inventory) of them and sell all 60 at once to get a special type of body armour with unique modifiers. Breach splinters - These are a collectable. There are 5 types each corresponding to one of 5 Breach Lords (end game boss). Collect 100 of the same type and they will make a breachstone which is a special map that brings you to the breach lord's domain. They have special uniques only they can drop when you beat them. You wont get breachstones very often unless you spec into the breach mechanic on the atlas tree.

you can set map device in your hideout and every six-link non-corrupted at least 10c on trade alt + look at map shows completed it or not

You dont have to focus on just one type of game content but at the same time you absolutely can. Atlas tree is to find whichever mechanics you enjoy and haven't seen yet. There's boss nodes towards the top and upper sides.

There is a small note on the path to Precise Technique in the skill tree that gives you mana leech.

I can't wait for the next video explaining how Nyx has discovered trade. You have 10 divs, and the amount of upgrades you can get in exchange for that is staggering😂. Hope your discord helps you out!

The best thing to do with extra maps is to run them for more map drops. If you're lucky, you'll get a higher tier map, which will let you go further in the Atlas.

It's enjoyable seeing you map for the 1st time, and glad you are following a guide now, as it makes for a better experience. Now you have done your 1st map, you get kirac and map device for your hideout, go place it in there and run maps from your hideout, its much better. You also have access to lily for gems and your stash can be placed closer to the map device etc, just customize to fit your taste.

the way temple incursion works (if you want to play) is they give you time limit which would be increased the more mobs you kill (which would upgrade the room you are in). at the same time there is a key that drops that you can use to unlock doors that connect to other rooms. Once all incursion is completed, you can finally enter the temple according to what room you unlock, if you connect all the rooms, you can go through and fight the boss

The Maven = Lilith, basically. She's one of the harder pinnacle bosses and necessary for getting one of the Voidstones that unlock further options for customizing your maps. Two other pinnacle bosses are on this 'main track' but there are others you can fight. Accessing their uber versions is done through keystones on the atlas passive tree for all but the oldest one, Atziri. She has a built in damage reflect, so be careful. Breach (the purple circle) is kill all the purple guys, yes. The Tormented ghosts need to possess a rare or higher mob. That makes the mob stronger, but also buffs their loot table, so if you can, try not to kill the ghosts early! They turn boss mobs into loot goblins! Crafting is complicated, but like all things in PoE, one thing at a time. White maps need to be blue (magic) in order to get the point from them, Yellow maps need to be Rare and Red maps need to be Rare and corrupted which you can do manually with a vaal orb. Have fun!

You should consider doing the Veridian Wildwoods in each of your maps. It's the reason the league exists. The wisps you collect there will empower enemies in your maps causing them to drop greater rewards.

the silken hoods were from a hidden loot mod on the pack called treant horde, it makes all the monsters drop the same base type iirc

Yeah Maps are just a nice way to tackle the "Endgame" There are the "Base" Maven Invitations where you fight map bosses and there are the "Special Ones" like Formed/Elderslayers/Feared which let you fight Multiple Endgame Bosses at the same time

to "catch the soul" of any god, you need the "divine vessel". you have to put it in map device together with map, complete the map, and then pick up the filled vessel from the map device. just use it and the soul will unlock extra feature from your panteon god. if you get divine vessed don't waste them on a random map. you need to catch specific gods for your panteon

If you hold alt while hovering over a map it will tell you if you have completed it and if you have done the bonus objective, you don't need the map tab just for that

15:30 don't get hanged up on what a build says you need for resistance at a specific item, what's more important is that you get a correct balance of resistance for YOU at the current point in your build. The items used are guide lines unless they're unique mandatory ones, even then you can use rares to supplement until you get them.

Noticed at @30:25 you are missing the 1 point life/mana leech on the right side of the tree. That would fix your mana issues. You also don't have to clear the map before the boss. It's actually pretty common to kill the boss first and then continue doing the map. Goal to be to have fewer than 50 monsters remaining in the area which you can see at the top right corner when minimap is overlay.

the best option for you to avoid running out of mana is to get some "gain mana on hit" or "gain mana on kill" or "leech mana" modifiers on your gear

Hi there! If you want to respecc in the future, look forward the upper-left of the tree. Searing exarch influence (RED) rewards with orbs of unmaking. Also near red maps you should look for the LAST trial of ascendency, which are randomly located in maps and rewards with a key to the last trial in the Lab. GL HF

I've been getting the occasional lag hitch myself over the last week or so, I usually only have connection issues during a league launch, but this league is so damn juicy people are still playing.

The left side of your maps are challenges that will allow you to further upgrade your maps. You try should try putting those sacrifice fragments in the map device!

If you want to support the game with buying points, it is much better to buy the skin packs which include the exact same dollar to points ratio but also include skins rather than just the points alone.

Ghosts "taint" enemies with their aura if they pass through them. Some can drop guaranteed legendarys and such. They will go into the first rare or boss monster they see. You can kind of kite them around for bonus loot basically.

After years of playing PoE, I still get stuck in maps due to them not dropping what I tend to need at the moment. This leads me to have a similar situation as you have at the end of the video. No maps. Vendoring maps to get higher tier maps is fine, but what if you start tier 8 with only two maps? I just go run a bunch of Delve or Heist. Get maps that way. Run old maps to regain Delve juice and head back. I now look at it as a baked in mechanism that forces me to take a break from Maps and play other content. I might be wrong but you seems to think maps are like do it once and you're done but most likely you can't always drop connected maps to progress on the first try and you have to do it multiple times, I mean it's more or less what's left after the campaign and people run maps on maps on maps. Also you can drop a portal before an arena, if you die, you'll be able to teleport back in map just where you left your portal.

The Tormented Spirits drop loot if you kill them but their loot might be so bad that your loot filter hides it. You can hold alt if you really want to see it.

You want the tormented spirit (green ghost) to possess a rare or unique monster. It automatically does this when it gets close to one and there is a green chain effect around the base of the rare or unique monster so that you know it is possessed. The seasonal battlepass/achievments have a free cosmetic chain. To see it press H and go to the challenges tab. That is where you got those black boots from. The kirac vault stuff is payed seasonal cosmetic content. You are supposed to do all the content that you enjoy, whether the Indiana Jones or the tormented spirits or something else. All that is apart of the base game and not seasonal content anymore (it used to be). The only seasonal content is the affliction woods as that is this season's mechanic and it might not go into the base game.

Maven thing is one part of the boss fights, which gives you possibility to get very valuable items and other benefits. There's four big bosses, which give you items called voidstones, which is one more mechanism to modify and improve maps. You can roll those modifiers with sextants, which you'll find from maps. A little warning is in place about those bosses and some smaller ones. It's not goid idea to go into those fights without some preparation. There are mechanics you need to avoid, or you'll be single shotted too many times to be fun. Many times you need to do dozens of maps to get new invitation, or pay bug money to buy one.

Just for your information, the strongboxes, the purple hands, the masters (alva, einhar etc) are all previous "seasonal content" that are in the core game now. So you should just interact with whatever you want and whatever you enjoy doing. Try it all out, theres so many options.

Your map modifiers are free the first time you use them and cost currency each time you use it after.

if you hover a map and hit alt, if will give you more detail including if you completed the map or not. You can also hit alt on items to see what affix range you rolled.

You should swim onto the sea of possibilities in your own speed. The only con of your play is that films are sooooo rarely posted :( Keep going Sir - youre doing this very well and enjoyable.

WTF so many 6 links in your first few maps and an Aegis Auroa in the same session? GGG really blessed you with insane RNG! (I never dropped an Aegis in around 50-100 hours per league for 5 leagues)

Just so you know, instead of buying stand-alone packs of coins in the shop you can buy supporter packs which give cosmetics and the equivalent amount of coins to what the price of the supporter pack is to spend in the shop! Makes the spending more efficient!😃

And what I would like to see in the future: I would not separate Maps and League Mechanics. Play Maps as much as you like and once you encounter something you are not sure about, and you really want to learn it, a short science class can be nice as well! It would be sooooo cool if you can manage to get the first set of Atlas Pinnacle Bosses this season! That would be a great goal in my opinion. Ps. I realize: Exiles streaming/uploading their progress makes us the viewers kind of like Maven. We watch you struggle for our entertainment, lol!

If you press Tab you see how many monsters are still in the map. It's generally worthwhile to clear a map until there are 30 Mops left and you can't find them close to you. Killing the boss and leaving is generally wasting a large amount of the value of a map.

His has a "beginners guide" and also a "beginners guide to maps". Rax is just as new to POE as you, but a veteran to ARPG games. He likes to min/max and push everything. So his videos can give you guidance as a new POE player. He made those two videos to help those totally new to the game. No jargon from a POE vet, just pure clean cut basic info. I'm excited to see your 1st pinacle boss encounter

It is generally a good idea to actually fight 80-90% of the monsters in maps. In the campaign there wasn't much point because the items they dropped would be too low level, they can't drop maps yet, it takes too much time, and you level quickly anyway. BUT this all changes once you hit maps. - The most reliable way to get new maps is to FIND them inside another map. But because map drops are *relatively* rare, you will often need to kill most if not all enemies in a map in order to get a "refund" or "upgrade" to the map you just ran. This is the incentive to craft and run HARDER maps: the harder the modifiers on the map, the higher the loot bonuses on that map and the better odds you have to find BETTER MAPS as well as better overall loot. - The last few "tiers" of item modifiers unlock in maps, so items will have the chance of dropping relevant stats. IIRC the last tiers are at 68, 75, and 84 but there are progressively fewer mods at each of those tiers so an item level 68 will have *most* modifiers you will care about in early mapping. - Experience begins to hit diminishing returns HARD as you progress into maps. To give you an idea, you need 855 million exp to go from level 0 to 80 and a further 3.3billion to reach 100. BUT you start to suffer massive experience penalties as you out-level the maps you are in (level 83 is a tier 16 map). So it EFFECTIVELY requires about 38 billion exp to go from level 80 to 100 (crazy math on the wiki for this).

I would suggest 2 life flasks and one Mana flask, for the Maven fight.

If you want specific maps to drop, you have to do _connected_ maps. Look at the Atlas to see what maps are connected to what.

Yeah the UI doesn't really advertise how to complete atlas bonus objectives, if you "Alch and Go" your maps through white and yellow maps, it's entirely possible to get into red maps without actually knowing how to complete atlas bonus objectives. Here's the tldr on how to get them: White maps: run them Magic or better to complete them. Yellow maps: run them Rare to complete them. Red maps: run them Rare AND Corrupted (Vaal orbed) to complete them. Unique maps: just run them once and you're good, IMPORTANT: Hall of Grandmasters is a meme map and does not have an atlas objective to complete, ignore it. The red map unlocks can be pretty tricky, corrupted rare maps can have a LOT of modifiers all at once.

Little tip - always open portal before boss room it save you a lot of time on walking 🙂👍

I've been looking forward to this for weeks now, dude!

Two things: 1. Vaal rhymes with "ball"; it is not pronounced "vale". 2. A *lot* of what you encounter in maps is past league content, which is what a lot of people love about mapping. If you skip all of it, you'll end up skipping like half of the stuff in each map, since eventually, you'll probably have 3+ types of league content per map. I don't recommend skipping it, as a lot of leagues are too simple to make a full video about. (They often get heavily simplified when added to the core game.) The only ones worth a full video are probably Delve, Incursion, Betrayal, Blight, Expedition, and Heist. The rest are basically just a simple encounter in maps and sometimes a few boss fights once you collect enough fragments.

Having no clue what's going on must be amazing! I rarely encounter that myself these days but it's so much fun every time.

You are going to need your maps. Getting atlas bonus done is only small part of the picture. Main task in mapping us to collect currency so you can upgrade your equipment. You are going to need LOTS of it. You should also abandon the rule pick only what you need. It was for campaign, but in maps, it's gonna hurt you. If some drop makes a sound or is shown in funny colors and glowing bar, you should pick it up and find out what it is. Otherwise you can loose a lot. Those 6-links you didn't pick up, were propably worth of 30 chaos per each, and if you were lucky, which you were when you get those in a first place, they could be much more. You could get divine orb, which is worth 200c or later on, something more valuable. I got once Enhart's memory of Chrystal cavern's, which I sold for 10 divines. Those extra slots in mapping device are for items which improve maps and put extra content on them. You can use sacrifice fragments and scarabs, which you start finding as a drops. They make maps more difficult, but increase productivity a lot. Before using orb of alchemy in the map, you can use cartographers chisels to improve it's quality. After alc, you can use chaos orbs to get good modifiers. Higher the numbers are, more and better items are dropped. Then there's a seasonal content, which no longer shouldn't be ignored. It's the best way to improve drops. As a general rule, maps become harder to run when improved, but drop value increases expinentially. You are wasting your time if you run too easy maps. When expanding your atlas, you should keep them relatively easy to not slow you down too much, but sometimes you may like to challenge yourself and see what you can get.

with all the uniques you found the unique stash tab would have been a great idea for you ^^ there you can collect 1 of each unique in there with tabs for each type and an idea of how much uniques there actually are!

You are leaving a lot of good things on the ground. 6 links sell for good currency. Jewels you should always pick up. If you get a lucky roll on a jewel they can be worth a fortune. Even even if not a lottery win, you can get some amazing jewels. I pick up a lot of the 1 slot item like rings, necklaces, jewels, because if you get a decent roll on the item it can be huge for your build or worth a lot of money. I always fill my inventory if I'm about to go back to town. It takes a few seconds to pick up all the boss loot and then sell it to the vendor. Even if you don't need the item yourself, if you get a good roll it can sell for a lot to other players, but even if you vendor it, that stuff adds up.

Hover over a map while holding 'ALT'. 😉 Edit: 'ALT' is a powerful key. Gives you lots of information. We'll continue to go back to this later.

great video as always. 1 piece of advice, don't rely much on trading and don't let discord spoonfeed you with currencies because experiencing your first drop of rare currency is the best feeling in this game.

You might want to consider buying the Unique Stash tab to hold all your unique items. This league will give you a lot of them.

Always pick up 6-links and 6-sockets, especially early on!

Do you think mapping is as fun as running Nephilim Rifts in Diablo III? I had a really good time in D3 running rifts and did it for a couple years. Does PoE 'scratch the itch' for this? Are maps good sources of gear that is useful?

I don't know why people recommend a Wondering Path atlas start. I assume it's because that's what racers do at league start, but neither you nor them are racers. You don't need to reach T16 maps as fast as possible. You won't be able to deal with the first quest bosses if you rush them like racers do because you simply don't have the skills and experience to do it in shitty gear. You should focus on an Atlas that improves your character by doing game mechanics. For example in solo safe found Expedition is a favorite mechanic for getting good early gear from Rog and currency and other goodies from Tujen, not sure about trade however, there might be other things there to make currency faster. But yeah i would never recommend the sort of Atlas you go for to new players, that's just the racing meta.

When it comes to the maps: Press Alt, it shows if you have done the map or not.

Seeing you just burn chaos on the Torment Map craft was really weird to see. What they do is: They "infest" a rare Mob and the lower Mobs around the Rare, buffing them up and increasing the Loot they drop. There are farming strategies around it and killing them off before they "infest" something is only recommended when you don't want to deal with the buffed up mobs or don't care about the benefit because you aren't farming it anyway.
