He’s Italian, from Palermo, Sicily. (I’m Italian as well and a musician, here he’s well known since years and I was just waiting to see him conquer the world, it was pretty obvious to us all that he was going to 🤟

One of the first things you learn about Matteo when you encounter him is that he is from Palermo Sicily, Italy. He was born in 1996, and his father, Vincenzo, is a classical guitarist. He taught Matteo classical guitar, and when he switched to electric, he did not switch to using a pick.

In rock, the next evolution after Eddie was Yngwie (regardless of how hated he may be). Matteo is several evolutions later, not really so much in rock, but in fusion. And then you have to consider Holdsworth, Frank Gamble, etc. In any case, Matteo's a genius!

First time listening to this piece by Steve Vai and as a Classical Guitarrist as soon as he played the arpeggios I istantly thought about the 5th caprice by Paganini, so difficult! But I actually think it’s easier to play with fingers cuz you have to change strings very often. P.S. Matteo is a freacking genious obv i did not want to blame him 😅
@michaelgoyettemusic
@michaelgoyettemusic 2 месяца назад
The picking technique used with a plectrum would be sweep picking which I suspect is easier than plucking each note…..that’s what I thought until I saw this!! Also noise control is easier with a pick I would think….there’s a lot more noise issues on a distorted electric guitar than on a classical guitar, wouldn’t you agree? The fast picking part right after the arpeggios is what gets me because he’s picking every note and there are many notes on the same string in a row (3-4 at a time) my limited classical technique doesn’t allow me to imagine how that could work!! :) You have to see the movie to appreciate how great a choice Paganini was for this guitar arrangement….Steve Vai killed it with this interpretation too. I saw Vai play it a couple times when he was playing In Whitesnake….it was flawless.

In the movie Eugene was a childhood guitar prodigy who was in school at juliard for classical studies and the old man had no idea lol great movie, he figured out a different fingering to help make it less jumpy more economy of motion IMO
@zoeherriot
@zoeherriot 2 дня назад
He really reminds me of Mike Oldfield. Oldfield was not quite as technically accomplished, although he was more of a multi-instrumentalist. But he finger picked with a similar style to Matteo, and work like the "fast triplet section in Ommadawn" or "Incantations PT 3" or "Amarok", QE2 - sound a lot like him.
@Guttalaser
@Guttalaser 8 месяцев назад
Italy, Sicily, Palermo... just like me!!! 😎 Actually Matteo seems going a little more fast than the movie! See that white piece of plastic between the puppies? He use that as a rest for the thumb... his finger style is half way between the flamengo guitar and the fingered bass, but he uses also his nails (long and hardened also with gel) to get the "pick attack". In the movie the last note has big stuff underneath. Maybe yeah a 24 frets guitar... but some pitch shifting too and also some harmonizer stuff (Eventide H3000 at that time i think), and a lot of reverb tail. Michael... check the "Drop D" video of Matteo... Man it rocks!
