The sages of ancient India discovered that atma - the inner divinity or conscious essence of each person - is the true source of happiness. Failing to recognize that inner source of happiness, one endlessly seeks lasting happiness in the world without success.
Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. For more information, please see: www.arshabodha...

Interesting to hear from someone from Iran. I have often wondered if the esoteric teachings of Advaita Vedanta could be combined with Zoroastrianism to give Zoroastrianism a more mystical flavor.

Wow!! I thought even Indians in their busy life need to adopt and adapt accordingly....we thought only we face problems in India.... great to know that in Iran, and around the world people are benefitted by Vedantic philosophy and Hinduism! Good time has now come to India because of an abled visioned Prime minister Modiji...good karma back in India!

As a typical westerner, I know on a superficial level that the true source of happiness is supposed to be within. Do I believe it on any other level? I'll have to be completely honest that not all of me has believed this so far. I'm one of those ten boys, so to speak. So, according to this teaching, mine would a great example of self non-recognition. Nevertheless, I am fully investing myself in the promise that it's true. If there is happiness to be found within, I'm going to do my best to find it there and with all the help and wisdom of those who walked the path before me. Of course someone will reply that it's not something you find, that it's already there - that it's not something you seek but something that arises within you when you don't seek. This probably makes sense and rings true to someone who has actually experienced it. Nevertheless, I am fully investing myself in the promise that this is true. My deepest thanks for these lessons.

just like Amanda Kwong says... Buddhas teachings derive from hinduism, the vedas and puranas... he makes some changes to it that deviate and make Buddhism dsitinctly different but the majority of it is the same. Similar with Jesus, his message is taken from the old testament canon and appocripha of the Jewish torah, he makes some changes to it that deviate and make christianity distinctly different but the majority of it is the same. i would argue that if you compared the western religions of the holy book Christianity, islam, zoroastrianism, judaeism, and their anti belief system atheism, those systems are VERY different from the eastern religions that probably all derive from the vedas hinduism, daoism, buddhism, jainism, and even indeginius stuff like native american beliefs... The east are all very similar but very different from the west. In the east 666 is lucky number the west is 777. infact, 108 is 36 three times... 36 is 6 x 6. The dragon is revered in the east. in the west the dragon is condemed. The eastern teachings harmonize with each other. The western teachings divide and clash with each other.... These are just some small differences from the two sides. but there are too many to count. it is clear that both sides come from something different and are apposed to each other. The ONLY teacher in the west that is similar to the east is the sermon of Jesus in the apocryphal bible, not the canonical bible. Which is why india revers Jesus as well. according to scientists/historians Jesus disapeared for a while into the east... when he came back, his message was eastern but spoken in the western language/belief system that the west could understand/accept. ofcourse, he was killed and the majority of his sermon was later thrown out by emperor constantin and his church officals. And all who had what was considered blasphemy would be condemed and killed by the church.

Kakashi Hatake its not just the people in the west. i understand how you are thinking. this is hindu teaching. but in the asian areas that teach buddhism and disregard the complete hindu teachings, they teach exactly what i said. they rever buddha as above all the hindu teachers... they dont degrade him... thats a matter of your opinion. if anything, they would say you have degraded the Buddha by putting him at the same level as the other *hindu* teachers. If you read the tripitaka and studied its history, you would have known the many passages that the buddha teaches how the other teachers are in error. he goes extensively over all the hindu teachers. its the same with jesus.. in the christian teaching they disregard the complete hindu teachings, but in india, the hindu teachings, they highly regard jesus. but the christians rever him as above all other teachers... most denominations worship him as God... they would say that hindus degrade Jesus... but that is a matter of their opinion and beliefs. sounds like you right? opinion and belief. again, its not just the people in the west, it is a christian who is not a hindu and it is a buddhist who is not a hindu. i never degraded buddha by saying he made distinct different claims opposed to the hindu teachings. example, the hindus teach that there is an eternal self. the buddha teaches that there is no eternal self. that is just one distinct difference. my knowledge comes from reading the vedas, puranas, tripitaka, bible, apocrypha, quran, avestan, and so many others, etc. plus documentaries ,the current living teachers, and my college courses that focused on this area of knowledge. where does your knowledge come from? just india? or do you derive your knowledge from the whole world and all of their scriptures and interpretations? or just indian scripture and claims? its good to know the other ppls as well and how they think and to not disregard their opinions based on another groups beliefs. anyway, there is no need for (!) excitement in ones speech. lets stay civil and peaceful on matters like this. if you wanted to know why i said what i said, you could have just asked me nicely and then reply with what you think strongly about and believe about the Buddha than back it up with your reasoning... out of love and compassion for me.. rather than with excitment and strong speech. It is is even taught by the Buddha in the Majjhima Nikaya, to not disparage or extol someone or a group of people when teaching. you dispparaged a huge group of people, the people in the west. by disparaging a group of people, how does one expect to help that group when they spread a hint of hate towards them? when extoling a group of people, one has hightened those people over all others and then inadvertently disparaged all others, that are not in the category, as less.... Pride is blinding. it would serve one well to let go of attachment to these identities.

I want to see a house holder who has implemented this and being happy and sharing this. Question arises, do we have to be a yogi/sanyasi to gain this knowledge and work on it. In day-to-day life there can never be wholesome happiness, even with this vedantic experience/knowing. IMHO.

Namaste As per the ancient scriptures known as Upanishads there are 4 states of consciousness. These are Jagrut or waking which corresponds to the A of Aum Next is Swapna or dream state which corresponds to U of Aum Next is Sushupti or deep sleep state which corresponds to M of Aum And beyond this is the fourth, Turiya or super consciousness which corresponds to the silence after M OM thus signifies the totality. We can chant it 108 times daily. Thanks.

This video explores Advaita Vedanta, a path to liberation through self-knowledge. Advaita Vedanta teaches that our true essence, the Atman, is perfect and full of happiness. The veil of ignorance hides this reality from us. Through self-inquiry (Atma Vichara) we can remove this veil and discover our true nature.

Swami Ji there is a problem. If I feel sad 😔 then actually I want to avoid that part of movie. This is the reason Harry Potter was not died. Because viewers couldn't tolerate this loss. No matter it was movie or real life. When we cry we feel sad. Buddha told" don't respond your feelings" . Come what may happy or sad feelings, they lead to suffering at the end .

As a learner here, I had a question regarding the "path of true happiness", if anyone feels interested enough pls feel free to answer So suppose a person achieves this "true sense of happiness" or the "knowledge of his inner divinity", for him what is even happiness? I mean what does happiness mean to someone who has only ever experienced happiness? Would he be satisfied by the fact that he has nothing more to desire or achieve? Why would he even want to continue living?

Dearest Swamiji, What you describe translates for me in another analogy: moments of joy overpower for a delta of time all other, at least ‘negative’, feelings n one feels one’s happiness within oneself for this timeframe n maybe a bit in the aftermath, n/or even if one recalls that joyful moment. Like there is my skin (outer layer) that has injuries, like e.g. scratches n the temporary joy is like a plaster put on it n the scratches r covered, invisible, even healing (in some cases), not ‘into the eye present’, blended out the plaster is visible, even the skin looks somehow ‘unscratched’.

I don’t watch sad, or scary movies. They are just as real in how they feel and then remind me of similar situations in my own life. So I can’t quite get the movie analogy. Is there another analogy you might use? It doesn’t matter if what’s happening is happening to me or to strangers if it is bad then I feel bad for them or me just the same.
