Discovery Kids: A Complete History (1996-2010) 

This hurts…so much. Really wish networks would create shows like this again. I’ve learned so much watching these shows as a child. I wonder why kids/preteen TV shows were booming in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and then suddenly stopped? I wonder what happened that caused this sudden drop. Additionally, why the wildlife trend completely disappeared in children shows? Trying to not be dramatic, but it seems like the wildlife theme in children shows declined heavily after Steve Irwin passed away. Thank you for making this.

Thank God for RU-vid. Its a portal of nostalgia, giving us a glimpse of commercials and bumpers of the past. Channels like Discovery Kids defined our childhoods and our lives.

I understand why you said the current parent company but just an reminder Warner didn't own Discovery at this point when Discovery Kids debut.

Funny how they sold off to Hasbro because of how little views they were getting, only to later buy it BACK to make it Discovery Family for all. Oh I do remember the website, there was an interesting page I remember that contained various animations made of Mythbusters. They were obviously for fun, because it had some violent aspect. Like one that had Jamie and Adam testing the myth of whether people with ginger hair feel more pain. Which ended up escalating to Jamie chasing Adam down with a chainsaw with a murderous gleam in his eyes.

I loved this channel and the shows! It's so sad you can't find most of them. I wish they would bring all these old shows back like they did with the 90s are all that on Teen Nick. Screech Owls and Real kids Real Adventures were my fav! Oh, and Strange Days at Blake Holsey High.

I miss Discovery Kids and Ready Set Learn along with Paz, Magic School bus, Timothy, Brum, Save Ums, Toddworld, Hi5, Peep, Bigfoot, Hip Hop Harry, Wilbur, etc since childhood.

The 90s and 2000s were the golden age of kids cable channels. Kids today would not understand how these cable channels defined our childhoods and lives. - Nickelodeon - Cartoon Network - Disney Channel - HBO Family - Discovery Kids - Toon Disney - Playhouse Disney

Thank you for this video. I haven’t felt this kind of childhood nostalgia in I can’t even remember how long. This meant something so special and comforting to my inner life and past self as a child growing up in the 2000s.

The LA verisons are easier to find then the American one I wish Warner Discovery rebranded Discovery Family to into Discovery Kids/ KidsWB to relauch both.

I loved watching Discovery Kids in Mexico and when i got the chance to see Discovery Kids in the US i would drool over the great shows. Man i feel sorry for kids these days they just dont have it as good as we did. I'm not saying we lived in perfect times but at least we had great toys to enjoy, great shows, great video games, it was really fun just being a kid back then and not it all seems depressing for them these days.

i used to like that channel as a kid once in a while Discovery Kids. Peep and the Big Wide World, Time Warp Trio & Flight 29 Down that boosted-up a good memory.

I’m surprised Discovery Kids in other countries is still alive to this day meanwhile in the U.S. it was replaced (other way around 99% of the time), especially because it wasn’t even a failure.

Wow, this was a real nostalgia trip! I grew up on this channel while all of those preschool shows were airing. As a child I remember Paz the Penguin, Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks, High-5, Peep and the Big Wide World, Save-Ums, Todd-World, Hip Hop Harry, and Wilbur quite fondly. I always used to say Carla from High-5 was my girlfriend lol

Ok long stretch but, does anyone remember a show where a family traveled thru time or played with time traveled? There’s was this episode I remember that Vikings traveled where the family was and the family were showing the Vikings the new things if the future. One young Viking warrior took a liking to the eldest daughter of the family. By the end of the episode the Viking needed to go and the young warriors sister asked “why is your hair like that” he answered mouse (or gel) i remember finding it here i RU-vid that specific espisode or scene. Now I can’t find it. Was this a show or a movie?!

This is a really awesome video and thank you for taking the time to put it together! So many mention Nickelodeon, Disney, WB Kids, PBS Kids etc, but few mention remembering Discovery Kids. Was it because perhaps not too many had cable? We had DirecTV for the longest time but I always equally watched antenna and cable. I've mentioned DK before to some and some remembered, some didn't. It's almost like a niche to be into and not enough footage of it out there on tape yet, and the DVD's for the show may not be out there as often anymore. Perhaps I answered my own question haha, but I really enjoyed your video and Discovery Kids for sure will always be close to me. I'd love to find it on tape one day! Have a wonderful day! :D.

Saturday Night Sleepovers was my favorite spooky programming block. Did the castle ghosts of ireland episode (truth or scare) permanently scare me? Absolutely. Still iconic

Fun fact about Time Warp Trio, the show was a co production with a PBS Affiliate... as in THE PBS Affiliate, WGBH Boston.

I used to watch The Magic School Bus on Discovery Kids, since I had none of the other episodes that appeared on tape, along with Paz the Penguin, Save-Ums, Peep, and Todd-World before I went to school. They were good shows, but The Magic School Bus was the top of the heap for me.

Thanks. 🙂 Quick question, since you seem to know a lot about *Discovery Kids'* programming: Have you ever come across an 2D animated show called _Captain No-Beard?_ Nothing to do with _The Wiggles_ character, just a show about a scrawny-looking pirate and his crew who don't respect him. I'm fairly certain it aired on *Disc. Kids* circa the early 2000s - maybe only on some UK version - but I haven't found anything online at all about it.
