Great video. I sailed Discovery first week of June. Did the same excursion as you however we had a bus to ride on. We were up at about 5am for the Endicott Arms. Absolutely stunning I loved everything about Alaska.

I sailed on Discovery in May and going again in September. I fully appreciate the naturalist since he supplies so much information, but is it me or doesn't he just feel like a lounge singer version of a naturalist?? Look forward to seeing your Skagway vid, it's my favorite Alaska port - and you'll thoroughly enjoy the train, so much great scenery!

Awesome! September will it be a great time to go. Skagway is always a great stop and our vlog should be coming out soon. On this trip we did a guided bus tour up to White pass which was a ton of fun.

So appreciate your videos! What time of year did you take this cruise? I’m curious how close one might get to Dawes in early August. 🤔
@NorthernVikingExplorer
@NorthernVikingExplorer 10 месяцев назад
Thank you and we're glad you enjoyed the videos. This was the first week in July. How close you get typically depends on how much calving there is. If there's too many icebergs in the water, they can't get super close. On a different sailing we did get much closer. So it all depends on the conditions. All the best and happy cruising! 👍

I have been enjoying your videos on Discovery Princess Alaska cruise. I am going in mid-September to celebrate my 70th birthday. I have a question pertaining to the Dawes Glacier excursion. What is your definition of 'book early'. Do I do this as soon as I board the ship? Or, do I need to do this before my cruise day? And, how does that excursion work out? I understand they pick up passengers at the ship, but how do they bring back on considering it says(online) it's a 6 hour tour yet the cruise ship states it's only there for 4 hours. I did see that the excursion is almost $300, but I want to do this to get close to the Glacier. I have been watching your daily vlogs of this cruise. Very informative. I'll be traveling solo. Thanks 🙋‍♂️👍🏍💨

Awesome 👍 Glad you are enjoying the vlogs! You will want to book the excursion ahead of time before the cruise. If it is available now on their website I would go ahead and book it as it usually sells out long before the cruise. As for the excursion being longer than the ship staying at the glacier, the tour meets up with the ship later in the day at the next port.

Do know if the glacier excursion boat got much closer to the actual glacier than the ship?
@NorthernVikingExplorer
@NorthernVikingExplorer Год назад
I know I got a fair bit closer but I don't know how close it actually got. If anybody else watching has done this excursion, please comment below with how close it gets.

Was there an entrance fee to the park (where you went to see the glacier)? Could you have taken a city bus there and, if so, would it have been a 45 min. ride?
@NorthernVikingExplorer
@NorthernVikingExplorer 2 года назад
Yes we could have taken the city bus there as well. I'm sure if you Google search the Juneau city bus system you will be able to find the schedule to see how long it takes and confirm it works for your schedule. As for a fee at the park, Some of the areas were free and some you needed the park pass which was fairly inexpensive.
