Mike Helton was my peewee league baseball coach when I was eight. In Bristol, Va, 1976. He was like 24 at the time. His demeanor has never changed, nor his belt size. 😅
Bobby Allison was incredible behind the wheel; what's more, he built his own cars! Like Petty, Yarborough, Pearson, Waltrip, Baker, and others from the golden age of Nascar, Bobby Allison rarely made a mistake driving. If he were in his prime today, he would mop up the floor with the wimps that populate the sport today.
The NASCAR record book has been corrected to show Allison ahead of Waltrip. I never thought we would see this happen. Well deserved...does this mean the world is ending...
I live local to Hueytown, always pulled for the Allisons, Red Farmer and other local racers. In the 60's when I was a kid we went to Dixie Speedway and BIR. My grandfather was a machinist and machined spindles for the Allisons back then. Glad to see the win credited to Bobby. Then when Talladega arrived as our home track, my Dad who was a firefighter worked the pits in the early years before taking me in 1973. Went solid for nearly 40 years. Davey and I were the same age, but never crossed paths growing up. Cheered for him during his run, terrible loss. I am now involved with a local Hueytown Go Kart track that has some of Davey's old friends and racing crew involved. I remember Rusty coming to BIR in 1982 winning a Grand American race. Got to meet him in the pits afterward. Miss all the old pioneers of racing, was a great time to grow up.
I watched an interview with Bobby years ago and he stated that there was a shortage of racers at the track and Bill France was trying to round up more drivers to enter. Bill told Bobby he could run that car, but when he won the race Bill wouldn’t give him credit for the victory.
Very happy for Bobby Allison, his was the first autograph I had ever gotten (his and Doyal Ford) 1994 at a Factory Stores of America that had just opened up in Nashville (DW'S territory lol). When i told him how Davey was my favorite driver,he gave me the most genuine warm smile that I'd ever gotten still even till this day! Still got that autograph,to this day I consider myself very fortunate to have gotten to meet him!
Bobby's first official win since 1988. That's a long dry spell Bobby! I'm thankful they waited until DW was no longer in the booth to make this decision. Could you imagine if he was still calling the races? I can hear it now...."Here is a battle for the lead on lap 85, and speaking of 85, can you guys believe they gave Bobby Allison that win? Dadgum!" 😂
Alabama Gang Strong, wish more history was out there on the history of drivers and crews out in the mainstream. There are some awesome channels that highlight this stuff like the scene vault and petty bros but more needs to be out there. Rivalry and competition was less sanitized, and the envelope was pushed way more than people saw on tv. Get off my grass!
Should have been corrected 53 years ago it seems to me. Perhaps its a Nascar PR move with light of the current monoply lawsuit with 23XI claims of “used anti-competitive practices to prevent fair competition in the sport.”
here is a question Kenny about Richard Pettys wins. 200 wins. Many during my lifetime have said a whole whole bunch of those wins are because he went to small tracks and the competition was nothing compared to his cars. Just saying. You probably know more about that then me. Great shows you have . I have started to listen to yours more than the other youtube videos. Thanks.
They also need to give Bobby the 73 race in nashville where there was scoring error and they gave cale win and in 81 at dover when there was scoring error and gave race to ridley over Bobby.
I agree with that .... Tiny,s 2 wins counted , why should Bobby s not count > Same thing , Tiny running a 68 ford , not a current NASCAR model at the time , Bobby ran a Non Nascar model as well . The race was a sanctioned Nascar race at Bowman-Grey Stadium ! Anyway it s like this -- if Tiny s counted as wins , so should Bobby s . I know Bobby NEVER let this go ... why the hell should he !!! Bobby was always in the right and it s 53 yrs later ...... They finally did the right thing -- damn well should have done it decades ago . TYPICAL NASCAR !!!!!
Long overdue. Congratulations Bobby Allison. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Darrell Waltrip was that way back then, but he's a Christian now. It would be surprising if he was still holding unforgiveness against anyone. "And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." - Mark 11: 25-26
@@tobylou8 You're exactly right. At that time in 1971 they didn't want recognize the win because Bobby was driving a Mustang when they were letting the Grand National cars and Grand American cars ( Mustangs, Camaros, etc.) run together in some of the short races that year.
It was LONG PAST DUE! ASSCAR FINALLY got something right! Amen! Now, let's see if 'Old DW' files a protest. "I say son, that there was a joke. Did you get it?" 'DW' is the ONLY one upset with the decision.
Optics...authentic...narrative... Geez, Kenny...knock it off with the Z Speak! It's how it appears...genuine...and the story. Mr. Mackey..."Mmm Kay"...
@@CC.94 watched that race live and every sears point race since 1989 up till like 2016. They been hitting each other in that turn since race one trying to out break the other and pass. That was not intentional
@@robertjr1709 Right. I was kinda being sarcastic with the question. Sorry. The answer though is no. I had never seen it happen before that. Never took a win away from the #3. Lol. That's cool you got to attend that streak of races. I grew up on the east side close to Darlington. These new next gen cars finally ruined cup racing for me.
Hello Kenny Wallace ...... i would love to meet you some day I really enjoy you and your life I haven't been to a NASCAR Race in my life i have been watching all my life.. Watch all my years I am 62 years old so if you have time to chat with me I would be so happy to chat with you GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FROM ROBERT STEVENS 😀😜😜🤩🤩🤩🤩
I love Richard Petty, but his victory at Charlotte should have been taken away from him. How his car even passed inspection to enter the race still makes no sense to me.
Oh, back then, there was a LOT of looking the other way and just letting things through. It was all about who was doing the inspections and who YOU were.
@@Eye_of_the_Tyler I can't argue with you there, but I am 66 years old and from 1966 through 1989, I attended over 75 Nascar races, and we came to the track just for the race itself. We didn't need concerts, and the hype, hype, hype like we get today. When those cars fired up their engines, the sound was unbelievable. I remember during the pace laps before the start of one race, David Pearson was smoking a cigarette! A lot of the races were boring because those 40 drivers in that field were total professionals. With 10 laps to go, they knew how to restart a race; and they didn't do like these clods do today. I stopped watching this garbage for good when it took over an hour to finish the last ten laps of a race. I can hear the TV clods in my sleep: "Oh no, it's the 'Big One;'" "The race is red flagged"; "Oh no, there is going to be a green-white-checker"; "Oh no, they have to do it again"; "The yellow is out, they are going to have to do it again". When we went to a 500 mile race, it was a 500 mile race---there was no 'overtime'. Those cars were real cars. They were transformed into race cars. Today's car is nothing but a kit car that all of the teams buy. They slap the names Camaro, Mustang, and Camry on them, but the Chevy Camaro isn't even made anymore, so why is it still allowed to race? Rick Hendrick is why. Toyota never made a pushrod V8 in their entire existence, yet they were allowed to race. Why? Honda wants to come in next, but they don't want their car to be powered by a pushrod engine. 'Playoffs' 'Stage racing'. This whole thing makes me want to puke! If this is what today's Nascar fan wants then more power to 'em. As for me, I have been watching drag racing and dirt track racing.
Unfortunately there was a time Bobby didn’t hold that grudge. Never forget Neil Bonnet's 80's TNN long bio of Bobby's accident ... awaking with total amnesia, and the very long road back to being himself. Alabama Gang.
Truth hurts sometimes but ,you're right no more thick skin, just p_____s,,,,,,, but I'm not giving up mom said I was hard headed at 49 Damn I think she was right about everything....... AMEN for the truth
Kenny. I’m a retired cop. I had to arrest a man one day for rape. It was my duty. Turned out his woman that they had children with was tired of him being a player. Next day she gets the full interview with detectives and she was pissed off and wanted payback. I arrested a man that was factually innocent but I had no choice but to incarcerate him. My job. No regrets. Is this shit similair ???
