Disease Hit My Whole Flock. Here’s How I SAVED Them.

The first thing my baby chicks get when they come to me is a weak oregano tea so they love it from the get-go. Every day I have oregano tea for them to drink out as well as freshwater. It's one way that I try to keep their immune systems boosted

I have lost 4 chickybabies during the first 8 months of my flock keeping adventure...The 1st was severely crossbeak...2nd lost to sour crop...3rd to lash egg...4th to broken wing & developed massive infection...3 months ago, all 12 had chickenpox...Cured it in 2 weeks with Elderberry juice in their water...They are all well now & having 1st molt at 13 mos old.

Hello super Chicken educator, it's Ross in Marysville I'm all stressed out dealing with one sick barred rock hen called Roxy she went sick 7 days ago, I pulled her from the flock 6days ago and I'm obsessed with saving her. I haven't taken her to a vet yet as she is the only sick girl of nine hens, we have a local bird vet and last year our White swan goose got a wellness check and some deworming stuff for about 50 bucks. Symptoms for Roxy hen were initially lack of energy and slow getting around and breathing with her mouth open Day by day she seems to get weaker although at day five she kind of plateaued in terms of energy available but not any worse. I am at day four treating her for coccidiosis now using emprolium and nutri-drench together. Something to note, this young flock I have started to lay late August and one of the hens was laying underdeveloped eggs,thin and broken shells but I don't know which hen cuz I didn't have a trail camera inside the coop. That said.. More symptoms include open mouth while breathing seems to be slightly labored like she's under stress, And her tail feathers are drooping way down. The treatment I'm doing for coccidiosis seems slow however she seems to be improving a little bit.( She is breathing with her mouth closed some of the time now. She is very skinny in other words her breastbone is quite pronounced. She loves blackberries and blueberries and I put the emprolium/ vitamin solution in with the berrys for her to drink Scrambled eggs she's not really interested Brown rice she's not really interested Layer feed mixed with the med solution she's eating some of it. Might she be egg bound and under physical stress from that?? Mentioned earlier. Any help and advice would be wonderful :) Thank you from Ross in Marysville

I nursed her, fed her ACV, Black strap molasses, colloidal silver and bone broth. I was kicked off the pet chickens Australia FB page because I mentioned Apple Cider Vinegar…😳 Apparently this naturally occurring food is detrimental to chickens pffft…. Oh ! She layed a lash egg after she was acting better and has been fine since. We’ve now decided to just add colloidal silver, acv, black strap molasses to their main water source.

I am still planning my piece of Chicklandia! Drought conditions are making it hard to grow our own food but having eggs and container fruit trees feels like a start. Thank you for addressing this issue. I had been trying everything. And mean everything to get a chicken well. It has been a nightmare. Eventually it spread to most of flock. I’ve got older girls too and was worried about them. Finally I had to give them antibiotics. They must’ve been feeling really bad cause after the recommended 3 day medication, even the 4 & 5 year old chickens were coming out to free range! (Which they hadn’t in a few months or so.) By the way…..I’m a new sub and LOVE your channel with so much great advice and info! Again thanks for discussing this topic 🐓❤

Totally agree. I had a sick chicken about 3 years ago and most recently another one. BOTH were medicated as chicks. I didn't treat my whole flock. I lost the most recent one. She was a beautiful barred rock standard cochin and she was only 3 months old. So sad. She was on of my favorites.

Rescue Remedy is wonderful! I got some at Fred Meyer. Fireworks are not fun for dogs! And if I remember, I start giving them Rescue Remedy in their water bowl about a week ahead of time. I did find out though that the human kind has alcohol in it in the base. So I put it in warm water and let it sit for a while until that evaporated. That worked so I need to go back to Freddy's and get the one just for pet

When you go to a Vet, make sure they can treat chickens. The one I went to took no test, just gave me antibiotics. No other advice. Sorry I didn't know about you at that time. 😊

Bragg's Aminos provides all the amino acids. Animals with compromised digestion (caused by medical antibiotics) cannot break down proteins into amino acids very well or at all & they will get sick. Cooking a protein food destroys the protein structure so that even a good digestion cannot convert those denatured proteins into amino acids & converts them to carbs instead. Bragg's Aminos tastes very salty but has no salt. IDK but I think it is made from some self digesting mushroom process. Why it is so salty is a mystery to me. I just don't use very much of it, but use it regularly.

I have always believed that if we have to take medication we have to heal twice. Once from the illness and the 2nd time from whatever that created. I.e., have taken medication for my stomach for 20 years and now I have chronic kidney disease from it as well as other issues that have come from them over those years. I always wait until the last possible minute before I will seek a doctor because I feel a domino effect takes place and it's harder for me to come back from whatever it is I have being immune compromised. I hope it's not like that for a healthy individual

I’m going to watch your respiratory protocol. I took a hen to the vet a few months ago. Vet was nice but useless really. Coccidia…it was too late for her and she did later die. I did not separate. I know to do that now. Amazingly none other in the flock got it but I did treat their water with Corrid. Now I have one who is breathing loudly but mouth closed. I separated and started her on vetRx and supplemented her water with nutri drench and poultry cell and 911. Is all of that too much at once?? It seems there are sooo many products out there that adds expense to chicken mamahood. It’s overwhelming.

We have a small Flickr (10 hens 1 rooster). They are all 1-1/2 yrs old. Recently, I noticed a hen (Miss. Frizzle), had a very pendulous cropp. She always stayed out of the lime light etc. I isolated her for a week. I gave her water by syringe, laying pellets and scrambled eggs. I could feel a mass, of probably grass, the size of a golf ball in her crop. Everytime I gave her water I would massage her crop and the massage would loosen up. I tried 2 different times to empty her crop with NO success. She even laid eggs 3 days in a row for me. I didn't (and still dont) know what else to do for her. I have another hen (Buttercup) with much more serious problems right now so I had to put Miss. Frizzle back in with the flock. She isn't showing any signs of discomfort but I know the problem isn't resolved. I tried to join your Facebook group but unfortunately, I can remember the password to my fb acct. Thanks for this video. I got my little flock of 5 hens in March and they started laying two weeks ago. I've been seeing some tarry black stools, which I'm told may indicate coccidiosis, but none of them act sick as far as I can tell. Is illness from it that dependent on the strain? I figure I'll make them some garlicky scrambled eggs with thyme and oregano tonight, just in case.

I use herbs for my chickens and my other animals and us! I'm talking about my old home remedies! I've used since I left home and now!

I'm dealing with coccidiosis in new chicks, lost 2, have 1 holding on, but not growing much. I was told use 1 tsp corid per gallon water for 1 week, then the half dose for 1 week, every day, in all water. I'm praying it will help. I lost 2 in their 1st week. I hadn't lost babies before. I'm hoping my little favorelle pulls through. On the 3rd week, I'll be sure to use a high thiamine vitamin and electrolyte supplement. I'm feeding all lots of spinach to keep up vitamin k. Any other thing? I feel I need to hose down my whole yard, it's not rained in Kirkland for soo long.😢

The two best old-time & modern health & healing nutrients are iodine & sea-salt. You get that & all the necessary minerals from Dulse (tastes great) & kelp (not so great taste, so I mix Dulse & kelp). What can humans get from chickens? I have one chicken. I'm learning and try to take good care of her. I'm not sure when to know if she gets parasites or disease. So far so good. I don't know how much and how often to feed her. I think she eats well. She lays one egg a day and sometimes has missed a day but not often.

Very first flock in June of 2020. They are amazing about how versatile they are. I have one in the flock that is still eating and drinking and passing waste. However, her waste is very runny with a great deal of white in it. Her comb is drooping and her face area is pale. I am at a loss for what this might be. You mentioned in your video about ACV & garlic, which I give mine once a month. Why should I not give ACV in the heat of the summer? We are in Louisiana and have experienced summer heat at temps above 100 many days in a row. I try to keep ice in their water and offer cold watermelon, cantaloupe and frozen blueberries. Should I do something different?

Been watching you for months now. I got 10 pullets this spring. They came with runny noses… I lost all but 3. Bought more supplements and spent more time trying to keep them alive then I did with my own kids. (I kid I kid) but really. It was time consuming. I’m scared to add more chickens to my flock, and I feel like taking care of three is honestly a waist of time because it’s the same amount of work taking care of 10. I am only getting 1-2 eggs a day. Not enough for my family. I’m stuck between getting rid of these three and starting over with chicks in the spring, or finding the chickens people are desperate to get rid of when they move or don’t want to winterized their coop. 🐓👋Hi Madame President, another fine wealth of information ❣ My 7 chickens, 2 roos, are now 21 weeks and a day. 1 S Laced Wyandotte has given me 9 little eggs (yea🥰), but my 1 Black Australaurp, nor 1 Buff Orpington have not (unless they are using a different place to lay). My 2 roosters & SLW all seem to pick on the other 4 pullets. To the point of not letting them eat, harrassment tag team style, and at night I have to round the 4 up to put them all to bed. I thought coccidiaosis a one cell protozoa, a parasite not a disease? How did the antibiotics cure that? Never knew that was a possibility. Is it possible to lose 3 hatchmates at 4 to 6 months from it and have 2 survive without treatment plus the rest of the flock?

My flock contracted Mycoplasma MS I’m devastated 😭 I do not want to cull them. Do you have any information about helping them live thru this? They are already taking antibiotics and we have already gone thru a coccidia outbreak that killed a few of them and they also had to be on antibiotics for that. We were finally past all that and now they contracted Mycoplasma! Help? 🥺

Do you have any idea, how can I treat mycoplasma infection? I have quails and chickens (separately) and unfortunately some of my quails became sick and the vet told me it is mycoplasma :( Some of them died, some show no signs of illness. I'm extremely worried, it will spread to my chickens, even, if I keep them completely separately, because it might get on my clothes or something and when I go to chickens, it will drop, so very-very worried for my girls. I change shoes when I came out of the room where quails are kept but can't change clothes. I tried to read about mycoplasma, but I don't get it, how is it possible, that some of them are very sick and others are not or is it only question of time?

Having to use medical antibiotics simply indicates deficiency of nutrients mainly iodine & electrolytic (ionic minerals) salts as in sea salt.
