Success'll do that to the writing of a game franchise. Back in my day, the Heart being that of the Empress was subtext and it was implied she didn't know it herself, now she has her own cutscenes. Gameplay's still solid at least.

@@blarg2429 Yeah, Dishonored 2 has a pretty weak story compared to the first. The first game's story isn't a masterpiece but it's a lot more subtle. Gameplay is fantastic for both games though.

To be fair to The Outsider, Delilah is an existential threat to him. That's why he sent Daud against her during the Rat Plague. He is literally stacking the deck as much as he can to survive.

when i watch people play dishonored, "Kicks him into whale oil, blowing everyone up, than throwing a crossbow into the air, and have it land on a random guard" When i play dishonored, "walk into room, sees three guards, kill 2 of them, with just normal, sad, slashes, than get killed by my own crossbow"

My (non) creative ways to have funny kills (D2) 1. Blink kick from roof 2. using far reach to lift people from the ground, kill them mid-air and watch the body fall on his comrades. 3. using domino on 2 people fighting each other 4. stop time when they are about to fire, take their gun and shoot them when they are wondering what the fu*k happened.

@@T13HS people seem to have the wrong idea about those playthroughs. people dont actually play the game like that, they practice every level a very large amount of times and memorise every guard movements pattern to get those to work. the whole "shoot in the air and hit" trick takes a lot of practice, and even more luck. they arent consistent, you just see the winning attempt. normal playthroughs are what we expect, walking around trying to figure out the best way through. also, edgy name

Lone Wolf I prefer nonlethal playthroughs as well (except for a few… well… let’s call them accidents), but that wouldn’t stop me from some little shenanigans. Like putting an unconscious guard, whom I can trust to be an arse because the heart told me so, on top of a roof or in some other place guaranteed to give him a bit of a shock. I’ll let fate decide if justice may be served via a broken neck today…

i love the silence in this song, it's less bombastic then the normal songs with less instruments a single moment and it works really well with a stealth game. normally i love how much is going on but here not having that really works.

I´ve had that single segment repeating inside my head since the freacking Soundcloud demo and I can´t help but find it utterly magnificent, both the structure and delivery. I‘ve listened to this song for 6 years and it‘s one of my absolute favorits of yours. I can feel the ticking and the ringing and i love it as a watchmaker! I am always happy when there is a new song, especialy a creepy one like Paleblood Moon (not really new but also one of my absolute favorits) or epic viking ones like Valhalla Calling Me and Skal, but I will always come back to this masterpiece. I think this track shows more of Gav's maturity as a composer and lyric-writer. As catchy as Distant Honor's chorus was, I always found the lyrics too simplistic. Here, the melody is both heavily influenced by the source material and yet stands on its own and the lyrics are creative as they are catchy. I find the lead-in to the chorus (I forget what it is called, forgive me) to be great. "Out of time I go running, as you're running out of time". Clever inversion and I can choose to interpret it as both a lament for Corvo, trapped by Delilah and as a threat towards the latter. Then it encapsulates the game's overall premise and theme "Storming forth I return from the nothing. I am back to reclaim what's mine." This followed by the chorus just screams determination to me. Also, the titular "Clockworks" motiff all throughout the song. But, I can also write another wall of text describing my love for the orginal "Distant Honor". I do, however, think you improved greatly, Gav.

you could get those just from watching a review, asking a mate who also played it or just reading a plot synopsis. it doesn't actually give a clear indication to how much he played a game, just how many unique elements he knows to reference. hell, he might not even play the games at all! he makes a lot of songs on a lot of games, and each one takes a lot of effort. and a game such as dark souls III can take anywhere from 60-100+ hours to beat. I wouldn't expect MOS to have beaten all of them, but i want to know how many he's played through to the end.

Depends on the game/series and how much lore is available but most of the time I prefer to finish the game before starting to write. Why would I bother writing about something I'm not interested enough in to play? Wouldn't make sense to me and it would make for crappy, half arsed songs. Did it when MOS first started but stopped 3-4 years ago.

They're tough going at times alright but very rewarding, to the point that once they 'click' with you they kind of ruin other RPGs, haha. The world, combat and lore in them is just amazing once you get into the groove.

One of your best works in a long, long time, Gav! The first Dishonored is one of my favorite games and I can't wait to play the second. You've managed to capture the feeling of Corvo and Emily's striving for vengeance perfectly without making it sound like it would fit High Chaos or Low Chaos only. I remember how insanely hyped I felt when Dishonored 2 was announced, and this song is giving me that feeling all over again!

With most of these songs, I start off going "hmmmm, its ok..." and then as the song progresses I like it more and by the end its a "that was alright", then 5 minutes will pass and I listen to it a second time, then a third, and before I know it I have had the song on repeat for the whole night. Great work Gav, never stop.
