Thank you so much for your video. I purchased a GE Profile and my first use was a disappointment. I ran on autosense and the results were wet dishes. I watched your video and now understand how to use this unit. Changed settings to use a normal cycle and the dishes turned out great. You were also helpful in explaining about the rinse liquid and reservoir. Had no idea about the debris filter.

Wow...this was seriously so helpful!! We have what I assume is a little older model if the exact same dishwasher as you and have had some issues recently. As a grown woman, I can admit that I knew little about the appliances I use often and you have NO IDEA how much you spoke to me when you said there were millions of people out there that don’t know about important features and/or necessary maintenance with regards to their appliances. I have been somewhat embarrassed about not knowing some of this info. I realized not only was I not taught it by my mom, Up until this last year or so, I have lived in apartments all of my adult life, so if there was a problem, I just put in a maintenance request. So, to your point, some of us just don’t know these things! Just yesterday, I pulled out the manual (you know, that thing nobody actually reads...) to troubleshoot and I learned about the Rinse Aid “dial” :)! I also learned about the filters, which I had no clue about. The manual gave very limited info, which is why I came to RU-vid. The info you provided about the filters is exactly what I was looking for but I learned even more. For example: Who knew I could drop the top rack?!!! Anyway I know this is a long winded comment but I really wanted you to know how truly helpful your video was. Thank you so much!

Fascinating. I grew up with dishwashers. My dad loved new gadgets. The first one we had was a huge monster with a door that kinked in the middle. You had to close it and turn a knob to seal it. My Mom was rather careless about scraping plates clean and my Dad spent many hours cussing and swearing at the bottom of dishwashers removing chicken bones. My Mom also had the habit of opening the dishwasher after an about an hour when she thought the water had drained. She wanted to go to bed and didn’t want to wait for the cycle to finish. Fun times.

Hi. Thanks for the video. I love my electronic dishwashers with multiple cycles and things like water heat, steam, and sani rinse. Delay is great once you get used to having it and the advantages of using it. The newest one I have has the filters that have to be cleaned, and that's new to me. Reasons to use delay are if you have company and don't want the noise to interfere with conversation; if you usually turn it on when you go to bed, but might forget, you can set the delay; and electricity is usually cheapest in the middle of the night, so delaying the dishwasher until after midnight can save money. Your dishes are clean and dry first thing in the morning and you spent as little as possible on power. I use autosense, but it isn't necessary to get clean dishes. I like it because it can stop washing sooner than a set normal cycle if it senses the water is clean. Using sani is a good idea to prevent the whole house from spreading an illness around to everyone, especially things like strep throat or ear infections. Heat dry also sanitizes.

Most people skip the pre-rinse fill, but it's very important! There will be a compartment, usually above the detergent one, to put a bit more detergent in. This is why I use powder instead of pods. This ensures the dishwasher will start with detergent in it, as otherwise the detergent doesn't release until later. Doing this, you should never have to pre-rinse dishes before putting them in.

Thank you. Great video 👍 If you leave something in the dishwasher does it dishwasher stay on all the time? Is it using the water and electricity? I am so glad you told us the machine shuts off when you open it. We often leave the dishes in the machine. Does it stay on the whole time?
@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
If the load is washed and done but hasn’t been opened then the front light will stay on but the dishwasher itself will not be on once the load has finished. Like every electronic, it is drawing electricity just by being plugged in but nothing extra unless it is actively running and the water is only being used when a load is washing. Hopefully this helps ease your mind!

What i hate about these newer ones with controls where they are. The steam condensates and causes them to fail. Had Ikea and it had the tape ones you mentioned. I replaced it with a GE older model that has them on the front as the repair cost more then a new unit. I got the life out of it by soldering a PC power button to still use it but saw this and watched to make sure It wasnt something I can learn being single parent of 2 xD

I have the same dishwasher as you. How do you turn it off? Also I can you open it to add another dish once it is running and will I have to start it over if I open it? Great video. Thanks
@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
Great questions! To turn it off you just open the door, it automatically stops whatever cycle it is in and if it had just started and wasn’t running long then you could absolutely add another dish or 2. Once you’ve opened it and are ready to restart it you press the start button again and close it, I always hang out for a minute to make sure I hear it restart before going on with my business. Just be careful when you open it to just crack the door at first because if it is spraying water right at that moment you could end up with a mess if you fling it wide open.

The videos I’ve found that address this are not like mine and do not work. Thank you!
@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
I’m trying to think back to other models we’ve had. With one I think we had to press and hold the cancel button either for so many seconds or until it released. One we had completely malfunction after it was installed and we had to unplug it to reset it (some DWs are hardwired in and some actually have a plug that goes to an outlet that is usually under the sink). I suggest starting there and if that doesn’t work you can look up the user manual on the manufacturer’s website and usually towards the very back is a trouble shooting guide to help with random things like that and any possible error codes.

@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
Look closely for anything that looks like a slot that either a coin or flathead screw driver could fit in to be opened that way, or a tiny tab that is meant to be pushed on to then lift up and open. If neither of those then it may unscrew somehow. It would be nice if they were made more consistently so we knew right away how to do it but each has to have their own style and leave us guessing.

@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
On the newer models it is all preset times, unfortunately. I suggest checking to see what options have been selected and watch how each one changes the time while deciding if it is necessary for that load. I could turn off the heated dry to save wash time but it doesn’t change it by enough and then we have to hand dry everything, so I leave that on. If the wash temp is turned to boost or sani it will increase the time along with changing the wash cycle to anything above normal.

Since I am not there to see just what is going on I highly recommend looking at the manufacturer’s website for the manual for the exact model that you have and at the back there should be a trouble shooting guide, if you can’t find it or it doesn’t talk about that issue then I recommend calling them directly and asking because if there is a bigger problem they can let you know and also see if it is still under warranty or not.

@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
My first guess would be that something is causing it not to drain properly and now it’s throwing an error code. It could be that a line got kinked when you slid it back into place, there is a blockage somewhere or even a piece of packaging that was missed. Start by checking the manual, the troubleshooting section is usually at the back, and then either contact the store you bought it from or the manufacturer if you are unable to get it figured out. Good luck!

@BlackHillsMommy
@BlackHillsMommy 2 года назад
Pull forward and gently pull up at the front at the same time. The rack sliders have a hook shape on the front of them that keeps it from coming out completely when it's opened for general use. Once removed they may be pushed back or pulled forward individually, you just need to line them up with the top rack when you want to put it back in.

I bought Model GDF630PSM4SS in September. It stopped draining after two weeks. The technician who was sent told me that the problem was that I bought GE Dishwasher in the first place. Not kidding! He told me he would buy a Bosch as all GE dishwashers are junk. It broke a week later and for the next 3 weeks I had to bail it out by hand, let it sit a day, and then it would work again for about 4-6 times. The 2nd technician ordered a part that did not need to be replaced, got it to work and then it failed again and would not drain. I had to buy a new dishwasher and the GE sits in my garage. GE told me they will not refund the money and would only replace it if the technician states in cannot be fixed. Stay away from GE.
@thegiftlady1
@thegiftlady1 3 года назад
Your model, the GDF630 has mfgr known defects. Look it up. If you think GE is bad, holy schmoly SAMSUNG & LG are notoriously bad, especially with after sale service. I had a SAMSUNG frig and LG dishwasher. Neither lasted 5 years. They sell EYE CANDY - pretty and full of features BUT trouble way before they should be. I do not buy "appliance packages". I buy what I need and look for the best in that subcategory. For my new dw, I researched the heck out so many brands/features before I purchased my GE Profile PDT715. Unfortunately, with Covid availability choices are very limited. I really wanted a BOSCH but it appears they just don't dry well so I couldn't pull the plug on that brand. Hope I made the right decision: I'm confident in my purchase for now. DW$915. ALL IN: $1,326! w/ del, install, warranty (a must on these new appliances), haul away & tax. I'll update in a few months as I know so many people rely of honest reviews. P.S. Read all reviews with a grain of salt, including all the negative ones and be wary of any model/brand with very few + or - reviews as they relate to all reviews. Cheez, who would think we would need a spreadsheet to buy a dishwasher! , the average life of all appliances these days (keep in mind when buying, do you really need that feature? My prior stove had a meat probe. Thought I'd love it. Used it 2 times).

Unfortunately there isn’t an option to just dry on most models, when you push that you’re just telling the dishwasher whether or not to also do a heated dry after the wash cycle.

GE products are NOT user friendly. If I needed a youtube video on how to use a dishwasher that is a poor product in my eyes.
