Thanks to DOS-savvy commenters, Strong Bad gets FriendlyWare's game Sea Battle working! But will it be enough? Or will he have to add more of his personal style?!
My high school tech teacher occasionally showed H*R stuff in class that was relevant. Like the "technology" email. I don't think it was exactly intended to be as educational as it was entertaining, but it was certainly a good time.
You just know that somewhere in the country this October, the owner of some military surplus store is going to be wondering why some kid is looking for dress whites and a captain’s hat while snickering something to his friends about lawn care.
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 And that's why I instead based one of my Battletech characters on Strong Bad, then showed up to a session taking place close enough to Halloween dressed as my character. I got double XP that night.
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 It’s true that the series is less relevant with younger people than it used to be (not that it was all that mainstream to begin with), but there were plenty of them in the last costume slideshow. Last year was the 20th anniversary, maybe it’s even about to come full circle and be considered retro cool.
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 Some of them, but not all. There were some older teenagers and young adults in there who were more than a bit too old to be the kids of the original generation of fans. You might be surprised how receptive the younger generations are to older entertainment content. I’ve got a second or third cousin who’s like twelve, but he loves ‘90s and ‘00s anime because he’s able to watch it on Netflix. Nobody told him about it, he just started watching it on his own. I also ran into a high schooler recently who’d seen the Pioneer dub of “Lupin III” and other early Adult Swim shows. Maybe these are anecdotal examples, but stuff doesn’t just go away after a while like it did before the advent of DVD box sets and streaming, especially not Flash cartoons that were posted for free in the first place. This kind of thing is probably fairly common.
But first she must be sorted into one of several SAT-word-themed tribes during her coming of age ceremony! Will she be placed with the haughty Patricians? Or perhaps the dreamy Fictives? She'll be fine as long as she doesn't discover her true nature as an...Unusual.
When Benedetto started laughing popcorn I was ROTF all over the place when I saw that. Anyways, I'm gonna go see what Gunderson thought of it. That guy...doesn't suck.
3:37 _"I get such joy out of messing with other people's hard work."_ Never really thought of modding that way before, but I love Strong Bad's spin on it.
6:05 - I did a bit of research - apparently, the "SK" on the life preserver stands for "Storekeeper." But I like to pretend that it stands for "Saskatchewan," because it's one of the only two completely landlocked Canadian provinces. (I live in the other landlocked one!) The idea of the Toptoast Party Barge being stationed in Saskatchewan is hilarious to me.
I can't believe it has been.....since 2002? 2003? That I first heard the sweet, sweet sound of Strongbad's voice!! 😆😆😆 Glad you guys are still having fun and creating awesome content!!! ❤ Also, I love learning computer coding via Strongbad! 😆😆
My favorite thing to do to relax as a teen in high school was to watch the original Strongbad emails while eating Fritos. You guys are as good as ever. Grabbing my Fritos now, in my mid 30’s, gonna watch another. nom nom nom. Now that’s some good toptoast!
Cobalt chloride, I discovered, is used to detect the presence of humidity by changing colour. Now I'm imagining Strong Sad being known as changing colours when it gets humid out.
I'm thinking it's a play on the formula, CoCl.... pronounced out loud it sounds sort of like "cuckold"? Seems in line with Strong Bad's persona to call Strong Sad a beta or a cuck. I'm struggling to see how else being compared to a cobalt salt could be an insult.
Jung Adult Fiction is the funniest visual gag I've seen in ages. Also I would absolutely watch a Strong Bad Teaches Outdated Programing Languages series.
You could write an entire program along with him, like one of those games you found in magazines or like, transmitted via some nerd on Amateur radio. It would make for a weird class. Shake it up with Strong Sad intervening sometimes.
The fact the character that fancies himself the coolest and is a stereotypical bully is also a huge nerd is honestly delightful And he's always been that way afaik. I bet he can handle new technology just fine, and just got really into preserving older games, consoles, and computers as a hobby
Please make weekly content again. Strong Bads art classes were super fun, these re-coding games videos are fun, sbemails were the best, regular cartoons with the cast were fun. Anything would be good, as a lot of us miss you guys
It's absoloutley brilliant that H☆R is STILL putting out quality and hasn't succumbed to the meme'o'verse of cancer that is the current internet's existence.
I love how the creators of this show (animators, voice over, story writing, editing, etc) have been putting out such hilariously funny content for years. A former drama troupe teacher of mine introduced me to the Homestarrunner world way back in like 2002 or 2003 if I recall accurately....and I'm always LOL-ing!!!! :)
I gotta say some of the newer content has kind of missed with me, but this one was great. It was all the old school homestar goodness and was super entertaining. Keep it up!
the friendlyware stuff just makes me realize how much a "strong bad plays weird dating sims" channel would be appreciated. i mean... he DOES like pigeons...
Hoorahs and huzzahs, glad to see that the tip helped! I'll be honest it was kind of a guess so I'm glad to see I was right about the sound. Semper Fi, Toptoast!
When my son was growing up, we’d watch the site with anticipation for new updates. We loved it. I think he would have loved to see what you guys did here.
Cobalt chloride: used in invisible ink, which Strong Sad has used Cardamom pod: extremely labor intensive to process into usable ingredients, but a rich, fulfilling one when you do. Like Strong Sad. Also, probably because of his penchant for liking obscu-herbal teas.
I am 🙂 I learned a little BASIC years ago when I bought an Atari 600 computer from a thrift store... it's not easy, and the fact that he did it all by memory is definitely impressive ☺️
I just love how Strong Sad is so resigned to describing the ASCII codebook. Like, not only they talk about this regularly, SB ALSO somehow never remembers it
I love that the Popcorn popper was able to stunt double for da cheat while he's out on that long-needed kick vacation or, kickation, he's always been talking about taking. Hope you're having a good time little buddy.
To anyone looking to check this out: seems as though FriendlyWare was only ever meant for Tandy computers, so in your DosBox configuration, you need to set the "machine" parameter to "tandy" in order to get the sound. I believe the intended cycles was 320 (far lower than the 30000 that is the default in DosBox), which would, as SB said, fix the sound issue that causes the illegal function call. Funnily enough, there actually WAS an amortization calculator in the third menu.
I assume the illegal function happens because of a timing loop with the CPU that causes it to return a value of "÷0". Same thing happens when you try to install Windows 95 on a CPU faster than 2.4GHz. In Strong Mad terms; "MATH IS TOO FAST!"
