@Beansprout I don't even know where to start with this. I'm reading some implications in here that are honestly pretty funny, but I don't know if you intended them. I will say that the OP did not say anything about traditional 2D animation, they just said 2D animation. 3D animation is not cheap, btw, it's convenient and popular, that's why it dominates the field. I seriously doubt the total man hours required to create something like Wall*E are substantially reduced from traditional animation either, due to the level of detail involved.

There's a trick to drawing fast that may help you out. but it requires 3 things 1: Understand gesture and anatomy. 2: Understand 3 dimensional shapes 3: Time/ Draw a LOT. 1: Gesture and anatomy. If your drawings have a ton of detail, cut that out, and just animate the "big picture" of the drawing. the overall form and gesture. Details are for second passess and cleanup. Aaron draws things simply, he's allowed more detail because of number 3. 2: Every figure is comprised of 3 dimensional shapes. Cubes, triangles, squares, Rhombuses etc. Start breaking down figures into their most fundamental shapes. The more you do it, the more you begin to see different things as the shapes they are. I jokingly call it the "eye." 3: Draw a LOT. Time. It will take years to get this good. Repetition is the key to improving in drawing and animation. Make sure you absorb as many masters as you can, when you get too comfortable drawing one way, spice it up. Over time this building and breakdown of art will give you the power to draw complicated forms from thin air. When you get time under your belt, you'll notice you can quickly slip small details into your loose-pass drawings. The better you get at constructing drawings the better you will be at animating. When you separate important information from minor details and take your time, you will come out on top. Happy drawing!

I was-I was just-wow!-blown away by this! I’ve been interested in animation for a few years as a young artist, but I was always intimidated by the impression that animation was a monotonous process. I figured that it consisted of drawing frames for the smallest of movement, causing it to take hours or *days* to complete the animation for a minute scene. You just proved me wrong! In only eight pages you had captured such motion, and it was smooth! After having seen this video (and I hope I’ll get to see more), even if it goes no farther than being just a hobby, I don’t feel so intimidated by the idea of giving animation a shot. Thank you. ^^

Dear Uncle Aaron I would love to know that were you animating straight ahead when you were at disney too? I make a lot of mistakes when I make kinda pose to pose especially with the overlaps

I Still enjoying Tradicional Animation more than 3D Animation, It feels so magic and soft, the movements are so fluid, it's hard to explain, I wish to learn animation one day to do my own tradicional animated movies.

I'm so freaking admirative. Just. Wow. I don't find my words. It's amazing, wonderful. I want to animate like this since my childhood, and I feel like I can't progress that much. How can you do a smooth animation with just ... a little bit of frames ? I personnaly need to do, redo and redo again to have something that can be animated. So, wow, big respect for you, Aaron. I hope one day I will animate like you !

I think it’s sad how artist do all this work and don’t get the recognition they deserve, but voice actors get a lot more attention and pay. They should get paid and attention for what they do, but artist should get more because they put the most work into the project . you can have an animation with no voice actors, but you can’t have voice actors with no an animation. And that goes for a lot of things ppl do in this world, ppl who work harder gets less pay, and it’s sad asf

I miss a lot real 'animated drawing', real Disney. All the beauty in these were the beauty of the line that came to life. Thanks, you made me feel like the little girl I was : fascinated

Honestly I k ow you've been doing this for a long time but man... I hated paper animation! Although, I mostly hated it because I had to learn it with a bendy tripod(gross!) and no reliable flat light :( I liked seeing the results, though! I'm a very new animator which doesn't help, lol.
