Disney bubble wand teardown

The science involved in this unit is extraordinary. A lot of development and fine tuning must have been involved to create the correct flow and meniscus generation to create the continuous stream of tiny bubbles without any liquid getting down into the air blower section. I've just realised that the unit has a closed liquid loop, so it is actually using negative pressure to pull excess liquid back down to the reservoir.
I really don't recommend taking these to bits, as there are a lot of parts that go together in a very specific way. It's one of the most frustrating rebuilds I've done after a teardown video. (I normally rebuild the things I take apart.) On a plus note there was no glue involved in the construction at all.
This unit came from ASDA in the UK, which tends to stock similar stuff to Walmart.
Supporting the channel with a dollar or two on Patreon helps keep it independent of RU-vid's quirks, avoids intrusive mid-video adverts, gives early access, bonus footage and regular quiet Patreon live streams.

Wow, what a polite design. No heat staking, no one-way clips, no glue. It's like they made it just for you to take it apart and put it back together again without wrecking it in the process.

The use of a single motor running everything to keep the air to pump to wiper ratio is somewhat old school but is a good reminder that looking back and combining the old and new is how to come up with some of the best ideas. I think this would be a great toy to give to a kid along with a tool kit or better yet would love to drop a number of these in a school play aria with some tools and just watch to see what kids just need to see what's inside because those are the kids i want to work with in the future

I remember in the late 1990s or early 2000s we had a cheap handgun-shaped bubble maker with a similar mechanism. However, it also had a gameboy-type speaker to make peculiar sounds while making bubbles. And after a while water ingressed and made the sound chip glitch out like crazy. Since the thing had no proper on-off switch, it would make weird sounds till the battery ran out.

I'm sure the "technology" has changed. They're probably a bit more efficient now, and cheaper to make, and designed to fail exactly 2 minutes after the warranty runs out. It's like AA batteries. There's no incentive to change the form factor, because it would require changing a lot of other stuff, but that doesn't mean they're manufactured exactly the same way they were 40 years ago.
@rakninja
@rakninja Год назад
there's actually a large number of chips that have remained relatively unchanged since the 70's or earlier, but are still used in a host of applications. for example the MOS 6502 (or the 65XX family if you want to get really specific) it was in use in a lot of computers and video game consoles from the late 70's through the mid 90's. it's still in use all over the place, with hundreds of millions estimated to be still made today.

@@RFC-3514 Well, for the folks born without sweat glands I suspect that wouldn’t be much of an issue either. That said, a “leak” generally suggests that something is “leaking” something when or where it should not be (as in a loss of proper and expected containment…like a ship that just lost its drive shaft and has been left with a rather large and alarming hole where the shaft and prop used to be…THAT is a proper leak!), other wise that is normal expected behavior and not considered a leak. What you all seem to be discussing is an “expert”, a “has been drip under pressure”. Unless of course you really meant a “leek”, in which case it is something else altogether entirely, just so many layers to this riddle. 😊
