That's might be true. Me and my boyfriend were bestfriends for two years then we became a couple once we confessed. It does happen where it came happen withing thr relationship or it can develop through friendship
I think the writing of the show just ruined the ship for me. Like with season 3, I would’ve been perfectly fine with it being a thing. But then they broke the Blood Moon Bond, Marco rejected Star and she moved on to be in a happy relationship with Tom, the random “Oh I love Star” realization, the kiss when Star was clearly in a happy relationship, etc. When it became canon at the veeeeeery end of the show, the ship had simply grown stale for me and it was just so cliche that it was one of the big reasons the series finale bombed to a lot of people. It really would’ve been better had Star and Marco been dating during season 4, instead of a rushed love confession that was honestly just… kinda boring?
Kinda agree but I think this is probably because the last season (or more like last 2 lol) where rushed because the creator wanted a season 5 but couldn’t get it green-lit so she had to rush all her plans into season 4.

Not knowing that show or the context of the ship, but Starco is very toxic and not cool, here's why . . . Before I begin actually diving into this, I want to tell you that in the very beginning I shipped Starco. Everyone shipped these two since the very beginning because as you know (BOY PROTAGONIST AND GIRL PROTAGONIST NEED TO GET TOGETHER) but to be fair for a second, the chemistry between Star and Marco was actually written really really well for the first two seasons, they both started out as very likable characters and they would've worked very well as a couple. Had things been done differently, I would've been all for Starco endgame. But things WEREN'T done differently. I see you're a Starco shippers, so please hear out my reasoning before you decide that you don't like me. Let me carefully and professionally as I can, explain to you how Daron Nefcy and the rest of the SVTFOE crew managed to completely and utterly F*CK UP what is probably the easiest ship they could've done. In season 1, they were really close. They quickly became best friends, albeit a bit too quickly, and despite the fact there weren't too many moments that suggested romantic interest, it wasn't a farfetched idea for them to actually get together. Then the Blood Moon Curse happened. This one thing completely turns you off from this ship as the "Blood Moon Disqualifier" the disqualifying being that all "Starco moments" from when the curse was placed in S1E8 to when its broken in S4E13 don't count as actual/consensual establishment to the ship, as we're unable to tell whether moment was genuine or caused the curse's manipulation. Considering the episode "Booth Buddies" not only were they canonically held hostage until they kissed, the Blood Moon shows up at the end suggesting it had a part to ay in it,, the fact that people saw a forced kiss both through manipulation and hostage as a romantic and cute moment,, that says something. So all in all, Starco never had any establishing moments, all because of this one writing decision. Even after the curse is broken and Marco and Star are both single, the writers still bothered to take up several episodes without getting them together. Then they made it canon in the second to last episode and then try to make it an emotional scene in the finale. Marco and Star both decide to abandon all their friends and family just to be together. That goodbye would've been a thousand times more impacting if they had stayed friends like they were meant to, their friendship had over two seasons of buildup, their romantic relationship had two episodes of setup. The show's quality and story were all thrown out the window in order to make this ship happen, and we can see the dreadful aftermath. Additionally, Star and Marco become very unlikable and insufferable characters in seasons 3 & 4, so we don't really want them to be happy.
I honestly didn't like them but I respect people who do, it just seemed like the writers were trying way to hard to push the relationship and to me it came off as a desperate attempt at some point...like I was watching a fanfic instead of the show.
I got to be honest, I love Starco. I loved it from the beginning. However, I do think the writer's messed up not having them get together at the start of the third season instead of pushing the TomStar ship and making the Blood moon curse a real thing. I love Tom as a character and wish he was just added to the main friend group since Tom and Marco have a great friendship and I thought the episode where Star and Tom dances was going to be them clearing the air and becoming friends. The first and second season felt like a natural progression of their relationship but the third felt like a forced will/won't they agenda. Which I've started to become less tolerant of as time goes by. Still they're one of my favorite ships in my favorite shows and I love that it exists at all.
Starco was a cute ship until the blood moon ball, mainly for personal reasons about consent to having one's soul bound with their friend's, whilst both parties are unaware. It would have been nice if Disney and the SVTFOE creators could have shown young viewers that there can be platonic friendships between a male and female protagonist where they can still hug, share a bathroom and make demon ex boyfriends jealous, as friends.
Honestly though yea. Most people to this day still thinks that if a male and a female r close or have a platonic relationship they’re secretly “dating” and doesn’t wanna announce it to the public.

Hi, I totally agree with you. THIS IS THE BEST FRIEND'S TO LOVERS I've seen from Disney so far. And what everyone else says about them being in other relationships... Yeah that's what teenagers do. They have messed up feelings and are confused and so they sometimes get together with other people before they realize their soul mate was with them all along. Heck even adults do that. I did... And I hate to break it to you but at some points the relationship between star and Tom is kinda toxic with him not knowing how to have fun without her for example. And Marco and Jacky were destined to fail because he already was in love with star but didn't realize.... Maybe the ending was a bit rushed BUT this is what the creators wanted to deliver and I think they did great. You can hate it all you want I personally love all of this
Sadly I disagree. I really loved Starco in the first season, but with the second season coming out and the show focusing on love problems more that they didnt during first one, i understood right away that they are going to ruin everything and I was proven right. Somehow they couldnt just do a good friends with a bit of pinning, no they had to do stupid misunderstandings, stupid “oh she’s/he’s already taken”, stupid way how they got finally together. I despise the show for ruining the ship i liked the most during 2016-2017(? i dont quite remember when the show started coming out) I just know Marco deserved better than Star, which is one of the many ruined main characters Disney produced in their cartoon show other the years…

The fact that the show started really silly and then progressed to something wonderful that had me hooked and sad and happy it was amazing. The best friends to lovers or just the best romance and show in general
I just… don’t like them together. By the end of the show I was rooting for Tom’s happiness and Tom only! I usually love friends/best friends to lovers, but I just couldn’t put my heart into it.
@liliana (In a broader sense) she abandoned him. I don't know if you noticed this but Star was an awful girlfriend to Tom. Constantly behind his back Star would take advantage of Marco being single. Tom did so much for Star, he literally rebuilt his entire character from the ground up all for her and she never returns any of these favors in any way. He was such a great friend/boyfriend and yet Star had the audacity to treat him like sh*t and run straight to Marco's dick after randomly turning down his plan for a romantic vacation.

Thank you for reminding me how much I used to love Starco. I would have agreed with you about them being Disney Channel’s greatest best friends to lovers story…if Jackie, Tom, and Kelly didn’t get royally screwed over and the blood moon didn’t curse Star and Marco to fall in love. Knowing that all of the shippy Starco moments during and after the ball were forced and unnatural ruined Starco for me, and I ended up rooting for Tomco to be canon instead. Oh yeah also nobody is happy when the dimensions merge except Star and Marco so…YIKES.
Blood Moon was the main character of seasons 3&4. And I agree about Tom and Jackie and Kelly and everybody else! It just felt like Blood Moon's fanfiction getting too far into one direction and it forcefully deleting things it didn't like anymore. Not the show I wanted to watch, but that's what we got unfortunately!

i was rooting for this show, watched every episode, even when i started to notice the decline of quality. knew starco was endgame, i was ok with it because they were really cute at the first season, but at the end i just hated it, they ruined the show just to make starco happen, the whole blood moon curse situation, marco just dumping jackie out of nowhere even when he had a big fat crush on her, star and marco cheating on tom (i mentioned both because tom was marco's friend), and of course... star committing genocide. i loved this show, but starco ruined it..
I respectfully disagree. I wanted STARCO to happen up till second season but after that it was a mess. There were so many ways this could have played out but the writers chose the worse one. Star literally went to crying over her breakup with Tom to confessing her love to Marco within a day and then there was this Blood moon crap. STARCO was also kinda underwhelming when compared to other ships like I feel Marco and Jackie made better couples and I even ship Tom and Marco. Star and Marco were better off as friends.
I agree with you 100%! Just wanted to add that, to me personally: 1) The ending wasn't bad because of Starco, it was bad because of bad writing. 2) On that note, Starco's ending wasn't ideal, yeah, but it was honestly one of the better written parts of the whole show, considering there were several plot holes left, and they obviously had the intention of making Starco canon from s1, so... No plot hole or inconsistency here, at least. 3) The blood moon ball plot isn't as bad as people make it out to be, since it is implied that, in the end, all that the BMB did was highlight destiny that already existed - the "curse" was removed yet they still loved each other - it never actually altered their destiny, since if they were destined to be together, they were also destined to dance in the Blood Moon Ball. That was my interpretation and it makes sense with the ending of the show. But, to each their own.
Finally someone gets it! It breaks my heart to see all the Starco hate and the show's decline being blamed soley on them becoming endgame when they were already destined from the beginning. I feel like most of the fandom (Staco haters) seem to forget that Marco was the one who wanted Star to stay with him at his home, even after their first rocky meeting. The attraction was there from the get go and it was mutual, they just were not able to pinpoint it at first until much later. If Season 3 & 4 were written better, Starco could've had a better development and ending. Also, possible hot take but the Blood Moon Ball (the original one before it was revealed to be a "curse") is my favorite SVTFOE episode!❤🌕because it was well executed with showing Marco's jelously over Tom and Star. For those who think Starco was a one-sided crush from Star, if Marco didn't like Star back, why did he choose to dance with her? If he just wanted to be a good friend and stop Star from being with Tom because of his toxicity, then he would've just talked with her or crashed the party to prevent anything from happening, but instead, he chose to dance with her in what I think was the most romantic way. Maybe I feel this way because it reminded me of Tuxedeo Mask and Salior Moon but I still stand by my case!

this show ships have very interesting dynamics and so many cute moments but the writers completely ruined it by pushing things back and forth constantly and then rushing everything in season 4 that it basically took away from enjoying the full plot. i love svtfoe and will always appreciate the show but the ships kinda makes the show really went downhill in the last season

I recently started watching this show because your past commentary on it inspired me. I have to say, totally worth it! I only just watched the reverse of the curse episode so I will save chapter 8 for later, but I really loved this tribute to them. They are probably one of my favorite Disney channel ships ever!

Respectfully disagree. The best relationship in svtfoe was Star and Marco’s friendship, they’re much better as bffs than as lovers. I used to think it was kind of cute (was never my fav tho) until season 3 and 4, when I started really disliking it. Honestly when they’re together romantically they bring out the worst in each other and both just become overall horrible people, which we never saw them be back when they were just besties.

So here's my short life story: I've always loved best friends to lovers and because of that loved Starco, especially since it reminded me of my best friend (who became my bf) and I in a lot of ways. However, once the relationship went sour, so did my viewpoint of SVTFOE as a whole because I couldn't even think about the show without thinking about my ex along with the lost friendship. I say all of this to say, I really appreciate this video because it reminded me of how much I love this show and Starco, whether or not my "Starco" like story worked out. So thank you for making this, it was a nice trip down memory lane. Maybe one day I'll regain the courage to watch the show.
FINALLY, someone who appreciates Starco! I enjoyed your take on these two a lot! I finished watching SVTFOE two weeks ago and just couldn't understand the hate about this ship. As a screenwriter, even though I would change certain things because this series is faaar from perfect, I enjoyed the development of this relationship.

I really liked the show in the beginning but was so disappointed by the end. It had the potential to be in the league of shows like gravity falls and Phineas and fern but the writers messed it up so so bad.

You're wrong. The Blood Moon just bonded their souls, it wasn't the reason they fell in love with each other. Also, after they broke the bond, even if their feeling got "erased", they still fell in love with each other again.
@@illegalscripts6771 all the Starco moments that happened while the Blood Moon curse was active are nonconsensual, we can’t be entirely sure if those moments were caused by the blood moon or not so you can’t count them as “actual” Starco moments. When they kissed in the photo booth it showed that the blood moon was out, so their kiss was caused by the curse, meaning it was a nonconsensual Starco moment - the curse influenced them kissing. In the lava lake beach episode, the song lyrics reflect that Marco doesn’t want to like Star, his emotions are being influenced by the blood moon curse.
While I respect your opinion, Starco was a mess which dragged the show from being great. With Gravity Falls, they dropped the romance thing when the story obviously became so much more important and they didn’t waffle between ships and plot like SVTFOE. Like, I’m sorry but Starco does NOT justify magical genocide.
I love this series! (I didn't know Monster Arm was hated; that's one of my favorites, lol.) I also really like Starco, and love them more with each rewatch--though I would have accepted Tom and Marco; they have some good moments that would have made a great enemies to lovers story. Tom and Star, oth, prove how much they aren't right for each other over and over again throughout the series. What I liked about this video is how you highlighted Marco's growing feelings for Star throughout the early episodes, whereas I usually see the opposite. Star implicitly trusts Marco and is open and honest with him in a way that she never is with Tom. From Episode 2, Marco is declared "best friend" and when we meet Tom a couple of episodes later, Marco already knows who he is--Star has shared everything with him, and always does. In contrast, Tom is left in the dark about so many things (like Star's powers) and doesn't understand some of the most important things to Star. I wouldn't have expected Star to write she had a crush on Marco in her journal, but I did expect her to write that she found him cute. I think it's interesting that she writes that she's "playing dumb" a bit, because that's probably her way of flirting. I'll have to rewatch to see if she gets her crush on Oscar before or after she learns Marco has feelings for Jackie--that could be why she never said anything initially, in addition to Marco's obliviousness. Anyway, what I also love about Starco is how they both grow as people because of each other. It's Marco that gets her to rethink how monsters are treated, he teaches her to be more caring and responsible and Star teaches Marco to be more outgoing, confident, and able to take risks. One of my favorite moments is when Star is on the run with her mom and she tells her, yeah, Marco taught me how to make a fire; Marco taught me a lot of things. It's so true and goes back to what I said at the beginning--Marco and Star have a relationship so deep, it extends off screen. Tom was never a true contender because he and Star were never that close. Seahorse, understands Pony Head more than Tom understood Star--and that's all saying a lot considering how much screen time Tom got in comparison. I do think that maybe more seasons might have been planned, because some of the relationship endings felt abrupt (like Marco and Kelly)--but they were always going to happen, just maybe later. Star and Marco were always endgame.
Of course Star and Marco were always endgame to people because as you know without even thinking twice people go "BOY PROTAGONIST AND GIRL PROTAGONIST NEED TO GET TOGETHER"

I know I shipped them from episode 1, but not because they were a boy and a girl, but because their personalities are opposite and that always makes for interesting dynamics, cute scenes and an entertaining couple to see on-screen. Besides, great romance includes friendship.

Honestly, I love Starco, the chemistry between them was amazing, but I think they should have been written a bit differently. The Blood Moon shouldn’t have been a thing, since it just caused problems for the show later. Tomstar could have happened, but maybe around the end of the 3rd season they break up because Tom sees Star still has feelings for Marco and he doesn’t want to be a rebound (which admittedly he was in the actual show), which would also help his character development as he would give Starco his blessing on his own. Then Star and Marco get together in the season finale and then they could be a couple in Season 4, so that the team can focus on the actual plot, while still giving us a ton of cute Starco moments, and like, despite the fact that they were obviously in love from the beginning, Star and Marco’s love merging Mewni and Earth would have been way more impactful if we got to see a bit of their relationship, instead of basically being together for a few hours, just a day after Tom and Star broke up. But nonetheless, I love them, I get why people might disagree, but Starco is still great imo The only downside to that would have been that we wouldn’t get that scene from S4E8 because honestly I think it’s the best scene from the entire show, everything clicked
I respect your opinion and I liked the video but I have mixed feelings about this ship tbh. I became a fan of SVTFOE since the very beginning of the show and I used to ship them so bad, I even read really bad fanfics on wattpad of them just because I really liked them. They were my OTP for the first 2 seasons, but in the third season when she comes back with Tom and Marco realizes he likes her, I actually got kind of bored , like they had cute moments but I didn't really enjoy them like before. And I didn't like their first kiss, I know they were teenagers and they didn't have their feelings completely sorted out, but Star was in a relationship with Tom and she didn't even tell him about the kiss, it made me feel bad for him and I couldn't enjoy the moment. I would have liked it better if Star and Tom had broken up before Starco had their 1st kiss and if they had gotten together by the end of the 3rd season so we could see them in an actual relationship in the 4th season. Anyways, I did "fangirl" with some of their cute moments and I kinda ship them for the nostalgia but I wouldn't say it's one of my favorites ships of Disney. (English is not my first language so sorry if there's any grammatical mistakes)

Anyway, another great ship from a Disney show is Kim & Ron from Kim Possible, where we actually saw them dating and developing their relationship in the fourth season
I never finished the show because I keep hearing from fans it got bad later on and one of the main reasons is the main ship. Edit: but speaking as an Olicity shipper even though so many Arrowverse fans hate them, it's not as much a problem with the ship as much as HOW the writers HANDLE their ship.

Starco are just so perfect for each other they are always right by each other sides through thick and thin and our each other’s hug buddies. It breaks my heart to see them cry when they miss each other. I really wish the series will come back so we could see more of their love story, hopefully one day that can happen.

my thing with starco, from what i remember when i was younger, is i loved all the build-up, but the way they got together at the end felt so rushed!!! svtfoe is fun, i love the starco dynamic, but they deserved a way better scene for them to get together!! if they got together AFTER star noticed marco wasn't in the tapestry, (specifically at this scene you showed 33:58) i feel like it'd hit a lot more! and maybe the point IS they got together simply, but i feel like after all they and the show's been through, they don't deserve something simple! hope what i said makes sense :)
I wrote this paragraph for my sister a while ago, I’ll just leave it right here 🤪: STARCO is my favorite ship of all time and here is why: one of the overarching messages of the show is that if you love someone, don't wait around to be with them, because if you do, the world might tear you apart. Star and Marco try multiple times to part ways and move on, but they always willingly find their way back to each other. And then at the end, they finally chose each other, they chose to stick together, till what could possibly be their dying breath. Their love creates the tiny spark of magic they needed to be together forever, because they finally chose to stay. And honestly, I think that’s beautiful. I know they’re not for everyone, and I know they may have hurt some people along the way, but what teen hasn’t? That’s why I love them.
