The original Ariel is one of the most iconic character ever. Disney is now trying to rebrand Ariel with a new design. In theory they have to revamp all their the little mermaid stuff in their parks. Imagine the costs of this redesign, because little kids get confused because the tv show has a different looking Ariel than the one in the parks.
The funny thing is this comes out AFTER the Lorcana set known as Ursula's REturn, where she is very much still a villain, in fact Hans works with her as a negative presecne to do smething dastardly. There is also supposedly some other board thing where you use a Lorcana deck to defeat Urusla. I find it odd that theyr'e using a villain's name to head a TCG set, I mean there's no Giovanni's Retibution or Lysandres Fury in Pokemon, I mean what, will there be a future set called Mirabel's MIracle?
@@loonytunescrazy the OG movie... left Ursula's nature and past highly nebulous. But has major hints. the main one is she actually CAN wield the power of the trident. So... it would seem that she was a close relative of Triton. Hard to say HOW close, but close enough as the saying goes. At any rate the aunt angle isn't the problem, it's the angle of rewriting her as a non-villain...

Not only have they forced Afrocentrism into the Little Mermaid, they have even gone as far as making the traditional villain as some kind of mentor in their Disney Junior adaptation???? Dude, that is messed up in all the wrong levels. It is about as wrong as making Scar from the Lion King as Simba's mentor character.
why can't Disney Junior and Disney leave the classic Little Mermaid series alone. Also not to mention their replacing Ariel's six sisters with two original ones in Disney Junior's Ariel named Alanna and Ayanna who are going to be Ariel's younger twin sisters that's a sign that they're going too far with this preschool cartoon.
As someone with a four year old second cousin, she does not like Halle Bailey's version of the Little Mermaid. She loves the original Ariel and what's more ironic is that she looks more like Halle. Pointing out- Disney has changed historically villainous characters for Disney junior shows. When my now teens were toddlers/young children, they watched Mickey Mouse club house. Pete, a historical villain, was changed to a friend who gave Mickey and gang challenges. Feel like the changes represent modern thinking that children should not experience adversity or ‘anything bad’
@@animezilla4486 also Pete could still be antagonist in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse he did help Mortimer Mouse steal all of the Mickey and the gang's stuff.
OG Pete was more of a punch clock villain than an actual villain, he isn’t against Mickey in the Steamboat Willie cartoon because he’s evil he’s against Mickey because that’s actually his boat and Mickey stole it.
And Pete has been portrayed differently each time he has been around, but he has been the antagonist more often than not. I can only remember a few times where he was an outright villain, and even then he was usually not the big bad. He’s usually portrayed as ‘that guy who likes to f around/ bad friend’ not ‘the guy that will always end up in jail’, though that depiction is usually the remembered one.
@@hopejordan2997 true since that has originality and is its own thing rather than trying to ape and knock off another preschool cartoon. And then even though she never gave a hint of being attracted to girls at all, Kristine seeing her crush's name in Haileys' journal says "their," instead of "him." That is wrong. There is a high, HIGH schance that Hailey likes dudes, just saying, and furthermore the "them" ponoun is used too often in incorrect scenarios that that just makes that icky. IF however, Hailey had told Kristine directly that she's bi, that would be different, but she has not done that.
At least the movie was enjoyable and gave a reason for all that change. Maleficent was more of an anti-heroine who still did evil things for her own interests (whether she changed to save Aurora was mostly because the princess gave her a reason to change her mind). I didn't mind that change in that case
Disney used to be so careful about who they hired for their parks to play the characters. They had one size of dresses for each princess, if you were too big, you didn’t get the job. Now they don’t care about confusing kids, it doesn’t make sense
I believe the thinking here is just using the Little mermaid as a brand name to make an entirely different show. Remember, these are the guys that feel constrained by franchises.
How is Disney going to explain triton being a black man while Ariel is a toddler then a white merman in ariel's teens? People can't change skin color that drastically or frequently
Modern Hollywood does not understand the contact of heroes or villains. Heroes behave in southish, reprehensible ways and villains are just misunderstood. I look forward to the film where a certain gentleman from Austria is portrayed. I just being misunderstood and not really evil at all.

It’s almost like today’s Disney under bob iger leadership want to make all villains misunderstood which of course basically trying to erase the values of good vs evil if they had Ursula pretend to be kind, but when she alone she up to her evil schemes sorta like the original 1992 little mermaid animation cartoon that would been fine, but seems this is where they wanna go with.

But the really WEIRD shows are the ones that started last year. Disney Channel also has some weirdness, Pretty Freakin Scary and Saturdays.
From their point of view, evil is subjective. The existing story for them is also just a brand name so the previous incarnation is just a limitation they can dispense with
Only because they are picking the wrong kind of villains to make sympathetic. It's like deciding to turn Jack Horner into a justified villain over trivial things.
So they're making an all you people version of the 90's tv show? Thats kind of racist, turning the sea witch into a sassy black auntie. The auntie who turns into a giant and toys with Ariel after damning her father instead of just killing her and him for that matter. The auntie who is impaled with extreme predjudice and not a tear is shed for her. Because she is evil. The evil auntie who practices the dark arts. When I was a little kid, I watched Oh God! You Devil. It is a George Burns movie where a young musician makes a contract with the Devil for a shot at fame. That movie creeped me out. Once I realized Disney+ wasn't going to open the vault & was charging us over $14 a month to watch Bluey, we bought some episodes on Prime and now own the DVDs 😊
and why did they remove all of the mermaids in Alantica wearing seashells kids who grew up with the movie and cartoon had no problem seeing them wear them in both the film and TV show?
My problems with this show are that while it seems cute enough • It’s a preschool show • This does NOT seem to be based on the live action even though Ariel is black in it • It doesn’t expand upon the live action when we could’ve gotten a sequel series in live action about Ariel and Eric •It basically has nothing to do with the original Little Mermaid or the live action and it’s just using the name
Also it replaces Ariel's six sisters with two new ones who we never heard of before and changes Ursula into a protagonist. If this crossovers with Sofia the First it'll will definitely put holes in there since Sofia meet the original Ariel in an episode so how is supposed to meet the woke Disney Junior version of Ariel when the 1989 Ariel exists in that show?
that's different and made sense since it's a part of Greek Culture and history. Also mythology has been around for thousands of years so there was point to it making the Disney Hades a good guy will only screw up the original purpose and role the Disney character had in the Hercules Movie.
@@animezilla4486Then why use the same name then? Why not make a different character with a different name? Why are they using the names of the old characters if they’re supposed to be different? No they are the same otherwise they would have given them different names.

Ursala, Jafar, Cruella all have one thing in common, they are successful! So what if you have a few souls under contract, those people made that decision of their own free will!
They did this with THE BEST villain to come out of the Walt Disney studio.........MALEFICENT! made her the good guy and everybody else were the bad guys.
I actually just heard a horror story, about a Mother and Father who learned a their underage daughter was coerced into signing a document. By her principal and school counselor. (A document presented without the parent's consent or knowledge.) Involving herself identification as a trans person. Luckily once the parents found out they acted swiftly and carefully and with compassion. The Little Mermaid teaches the dangers of signing contracts without fully understanding what the contract entails. The video is called: They turned my daughter into a boy.
If they're going to go through with this agenda, I'd suggest they go all in and release the old stuff into the public domain to show their confidence in the new versions of things. Nothing like everything from before the live action remake agenda being public domain so show confidence in this stuff.
@@ProfessorDreamer I prefer to think think of it as them going all in on it. However, I might be going too far back with the general live action remake stuff as I've do remember live action versions of the Pinocchio and 101 Dalmations from a previous era. Maybe everything from before 2016 should be public domain so Disney can focus on going all in with their remake agenda while we have legal free access to their full back catalog. They'd still be able to put this stuff on their streaming service and make merchandise if they so choose, but I think it would mean others could do the same if the IP rights were public domain; if they go all in on their agenda, they can compete with other people that take all their older series in a direction they're not going to do so for competition purposes.
These WOKIE's ARE the equivalent to villains in real life and want to fool our kids into thinking the bad guys are just misunderstood and it's ok to trust in unsavory individuals when they tell you what to do.
WDW Pro this definitely puts a hole in the 2023 Little Mermaid Remake how is Ursula going to be banished if she isn't evil and how'll the events of that movie still happen if she's not likely going to become evil. What the cartoon is probably saying is that it's a prequel to the 2023 remake but if it really is what's gonna make Ursula turn to the dark side and cause to be exiled if she's going to be a protagonist in the cartoon? So Ursula's still going to do witchcraft in the cartoon wasn't that the reason she was banished from Alantica in the first place and in the Little Mermaid franchise another hole in the cartoon Ursula using witchcraft and teaching Ariel how to use it without showing how Ursula got exiled or what made her use witchcraft for evil purposes? Also one more if Ursula taught Ariel on how to perform witchcraft wouldn't that undo all of Ursula's magic in the Little Mermaid franchise ( including the 2023 remake) and if this is taking place before the 2023 remake wouldn't Ariel use her own witchcraft against Ursula and make Ursula set up her own undoing?
Seriously, what's wrong with having villains and antagonists in kids movies nowadays? Not everyone is a good person, and kids need to learn that so that they can start making a distinction between Good and Evil. Yes, Evil exists. And it will keep on existing for as long as humanity keeps on existing. Seems like modern Disney nowadays really wants to raise kids to become clueless little snowflakes who will fall on their ass crying at the first hint of any bad experience they may encounter in life. It's disgusting, to be honest.
So, is modern Disney trying to tell little non-white children that your skin is going to turn white when you get really old? They kind of did after seeing how Wish ended. And I know it's a prequel cartoon for preschoolers, but sooner or later, Disney is going to need to explain WHY Triton BANISHED Ursula out of the palace.

Didnt Ursula literally tell Ariel "The men up there don't like a lot of blabber. They think a girl who gossips is a bore. Yes on land it's must preferred for ladies not to say a word"
My grandson has told me repeatedly that mermaids couldn't possibly be black as they live under water therefore they wouldn't have much melanin in their skin. If a child knows that then why don't the supposed adults know it.
I mean, if mermaids were real, wouldn't they most likely be hairless, scaly and with webbed fingers? I'm fine with a black mermaid, what I don't like is race swapping a character. Especially one whose appearance is so deeply engraved in the cultural mindset.
As a marine biologist, if mermaids were real, I promise you they wouldn’t look like either Ariel lmao. I think black mermaids are fine and dandy, I’m just disappointed that Disney would rather change an existing character than spend the time and money making a new one.
@@animezilla4486If this was a one time thing, then I'd agree. But have you seen the number of villains Disney has tried to make "misunderstood" and "they don't know what you've been through" types? As if that justified the evil they commited?
It’s seems like Disney likes making the villain more relatable. Projection? Almost like Disney realizes they are the villains and want sympathy for the situation they put themselves in.
I know that the Star Wars prequels had some execution issues with them, but showing how Anakin fell and became Darth Vader wasn't the worst idea. Similarly, showing how the "fun aunt" falls and becomes the villian could be interesting, especially how it impacts King Triton (one could imagine the grief and guilt from effectively losing a family member to evil and how that might have carried over into overbearing treatment of Ariel). Though that plot does seem a bit complicated for a show whose audience is primarily toddlers. Maybe they would need a teen focused show to bridge between the kids show and movie timeline/continuities.

In the realm of filmmaking, it's becoming increasingly apparent that there's a missed opportunity to explore the vast potential of non-human characters such as animals, monsters, aliens, and robots. This is particularly crucial as the trend of political correctness and inclusivity has inadvertently placed limitations on creative expression. In today's cinematic landscape, the majority of characters in animation are either typical humans or variations that closely resemble them. They are bound by the necessity to conform to realistic standards in appearance, speech, and behaviour. However, shouldn't animation, in particular, leverage its unique capabilities to introduce characters that transcend the boundaries of reality? There's a pressing need to reintroduce characters that possess the charm of classic one-liners like "Let's get Dangerous," "Cowabunga," "Banana Slamma," or even the relatable "I hate Mondays." These memorable and often quirky phrases add depth and appeal to characters, making them more endearing to audiences. By diversifying character types and embracing more imaginative personas, filmmakers can breathe new life into storytelling. Whether it's through the antics of a mischievous alien, the wisdom of a wise-cracking robot, or the ferocity of a mythical creature, the possibilities for creative exploration are endless. In essence, it's time to break free from the confines of mundane human characters and rediscover the magic of storytelling through the lens of the extraordinary.
As a Scandinavian, I don't think it's a bad thing the Sea Witch isn't overtly evil. In the original (i.e. the actual story, not the Disneyfied version) she's more a force of nature. The whole point of the story was that Ariel _could_ trust the with. She told Ariel _all_ in advanced, Ariel went and drank the potion anyway. It's a story of deep longing and unreciprocated love.
