DISNEY Dreamlight Valley Getting Lots Of HATE For This! But Is It Really Deserved? Huge Giveaway. 

After making the video, I found out that it seems the website won't even let you participate if you're not from USA or a few other allowed countries, which is kinda goes against their own terms, cause why make a separate clause for countries that you can still claim digital part of prize and still not allow those countries to participate. Strange move... Also it seems gameloft was the one who created the giveaway, but they had to abide by certain Disney rules and restrictions + I still think Disney were the ones to come up with the giveaway in the first place.

This is really messy! I bet most people who entered or plan to enter had no idea about the tax situation. I would honestly rather just give them $100 and get 29,000 moonstones. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This whole thing just seems messy and not worth it. I’m not upset about it, though I understand why people are. I’m in the US but It’s not fair to exclude people in other countries from parts of the game. That said, I’m definitely not participating lol Edit: and taxing the prizes?? Absolutely not. I'm on a budget so I'd rather spend an actual $100 on moonstones by choice than owe money on the prizes when tax season comes. Also the people who get the grand prize get an XL rose sculpture which costs $359.00 in the shopDisney store and the other winners get the L sculpture which costs $89.00. I'm going to make a picture for the fun of it but I will just be submitting it on discord rather than entering the sweepstakes.

The only part that bugs me are the taxes because at that point, can we even call it a prize? Companies in general need to stop being cheap and pay for it. Everyone getting angry about the giveaway are being a bit ridiculous. Despite me living in the U.S., I'm excluded from most U.S. giveaways because I live in Hawaii and somehow deemed ineligible. Doesn't mean I need to cry about it. Like you said, it has no bearing on the game so people should just continue to enjoy it. I also think people getting angry that their photos won't be judged is a little silly. The point of this promotion is to celebrate the players and the fun of the game. Some people are amazing designers and will always have a 1-up on everyone else. Some could argue that the same five people winning every competition is even more unfair than the randomness of it.

I watched Serrohs video earlier about the sweepstakes and had already made the decision not to enter because I personally think the glass rose prize isn't that great looking. It's cool that's it's made of glass and crystal but it's not for my personal taste. Then when I heard that the entries are randomly picked and not based off the photo you submit, that really sealed the deal for me to not enter. My husband bought me a beauty and the beast inspired rose that lights up from Amazon a couple years ago. More affordable (thirty dollars) and better looking in my opinion. I tried putting a link for it but RU-vid deleted my comment. 🙄

I’ve just been on the shop disney UK and they actually have the rose in the glass jar on the website to buy so why could they of not come together so the people from the UK site could deliver the prizes to the winners around europe? 🤷‍♀️

Good heavens, people getting offended by international tax laws and restrictions? Why not just boycott the IRS in protest? Neither Gameloft nor Disney had anything to do with writing competition or tax laws. I’m in Australia, and it’s always been that 98% of competitions are closed to overseas residents. Doesn’t mean I am not going to stop playing or get mad at developers.

I'm not shocked about the competition being at random, most competitions are. Disney has so many severe laws - it's such a shame but I wouldn't go insane about it.

I'm not really sure why this is causing such an uproar? This is just literally how a Sweepstake functions... There's a reason why it's specifically declared as a sweepstakes, and NOT a giveaway or competition. A lot of countries have specific laws about sweepstakes, and they're often in contrast to US laws so obviously they wouldn't be able to run it in those places.

That's another thing the tax value is off as well. It looks sketchy to me and I have an enchanted rose my daughter got me for Christmas a couple years ago that looks alot better than the one they are giving away and it lights up js. I think alot of people are gonna be disappointed.

I'm not going to accept if I win after seeing the tax owed thing. That's ridiculous. And the randomly selected rather than having a vote on the best pictures?! I thought it would at least be a vote from the dev team higher ups or something. But this is all a bunch of bunk in my opinion. I'm not a wealthy person and can't afford $200 or so US in taxes for a game. Who gave the ok for this contest at Gameloft?! And thought taxes and all that would be a grand thing?! I'll just pay a little for moonstones here and there/save up from Dreamsnaps for what I really want and be fine.

Tbh, I wouldn’t have entered either way. I understand the frustration people have. I feel like they could’ve handled this giveaway, I think maybe they could’ve just done the moonstones where the grand prize would be a certain amount of moonstones then the runner ups would get another amount of moonstones. With the voting I do think they could’ve handled it differently. Instead of do a random drawing maybe have the submitters vote on their favorite ones or put out a poll to everyone on social media. I’m not letting the giveaway ruin the game for me, m still going to play the game as I normally would.

I’m a CPA. US companies are only required to issue 1099 tax forms when the total fair market value is equal to or larger than $600. However, the rules state all winners will receive a 1099. It seems like Gameloft is actually making the tax consequences worse than they need to be.

I can't tell if this is a sweepstakes or a contest based on the rules. From my understanding, entries to sweepstakes by law are not allowed to cost anything, including a bunch of time, and they have to provide a physical address to allow people to enter by mail, which I didn't see in the terms. They need to be careful 😬

The giveaway is lame AF, but people are also overreacting too.

I'm from Italy and surprisingly I can shop from the online Disney shop, but I can't submit for this. I don't think the problem is that they can't sell in all that countries. But I don't care, I know that I can never participate to this events, this is not the first time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

WELL IF THEY ARE MAKEING US PAY TAXES ON THE PRIZE THAT COYULD BE WHY IT IS ONLY IN USA

I remember a while back they had a Steam Deck giveaway and there was a link to the giveaway website where it would count down until the day a winner would be selected. On the day of it said 0 days left and no winner was posted, I went back a week or so later and nothing was updated and I think pretty much everyone forgot about the giveaway. I'm not on any hate bandwagon or anything like that but situations like that make me question the validity of these contest.

I look at it this way...if a game I am playing is allowing me to buy credits and other item for my game.....then these contest should be available to me and all people no matter where they are from...if they can buy the game in their countries then why can they not enter from their countries? 100% disagree with it only being the usa...if you can not ship to other countries then do not offer it just to one...make it an in game contest then.... I am not entering but I do not know if Canada is on that list of who can't...But I understand why people are upset....

Also there is some giveaway places that have sued people for doing things like that to ruin the giveaway Dell did on one of theirs

What other characters will Timon and Pumbaa add to Disney's dreamlight village? And will there be other new characters, like Tarzan, Robin Hood, cars, or my favorite series The Lion Guard and my favorite Lion Guards of Kion the Lion? Will they add Elena of Avalor's Jagraks?

It’s a random draw because children play this game. And as adults, it’s a bonus that we enjoy it, but it is a game for kids at its core. If it weren’t random, those poor kids wouldn’t have a shot.

I’m not 100% sure on this but I don’t think the country regulation is because of shipping. I think it’s because sweepstakes or contests are too much of a gray area that falls into gambling which IS not legal in a lot of other countries. This is common with almost all sweepstakes and contests. Dead by Daylight does an art contest a couple times a year and it’s usually just the US and Canada that can enter due to it being a contest, the winners don’t receive any items they just get in game currency so that has nothing to do with shipping items.

Yeah pretty sure this was an idea that came from the higher ups form Disney but DDLV Devs and Gameloft that's the blow. At least it looks like it

I am just not bothering with this givaway, I'm in Canada which is not listed in the countries that are excluded but I am really not that interested in the rose sculpture or in the disney shop the moonstones would be cool but not enough to bother with as the chances of winning would be extremely slim. I would rather see a special giveaway of in game items perhaps a special bundle that contained moonstones and special items that you could interact with in interesting ways for example a snowy house skin that you could interact with to get a menu that would allow christmas decorations to be added or removed that way the house could be used all year around and it would be cool to turn lights on and off that kind of thing or special items that could be customised in the TOM tool LIKE DOORS!!!!!

the main reason people aren't joining is entering on twitter isn't working, and i mean at all. I would like to point out even pokemon has japan exclusive events, this isn't now. a lot of companies have events and contests only in the country they are developed in. maybe they will have world wide ones later but this is not just a dreamlight valley thing. does pokemon get the same backlash for MOST of their offical merch and contests being japan only?

Yes. It sucks that all those countries can't enter. BUT this is not a new thing. Many contests are like this (although the tax thing? Really? Then again some other contests tax you also. Not all but several) I did toss in a pic. I never win anything so not too worried about it

If they are making you pay tax on the prize that’s definitely the reason it’s only for the US. I probably would have participated if it was in game instead and not taxed. But not mad about it. Not really interested in the rose though either.

I just put this out there as something to discuss, i have no personal stakes in this cause i was never gonna participate in this. I think the reason people are so upset about this is: A: ddv's past when it comes to some of their previous business decisions B: people genuinely wanting to be involved in stuff like this but continuesly being stopped or barred from participating for silly reason (uk people im so sorry) C: even though big daddy disney is to blame for a lot of this, i personally think the ganeloft had more of a hand in this then people would expect. And so then that gets people worried about what theyre gonna start doing to the game itself. Right now it doesnt effect the actual game sure, but i bet people are starting to wonder if itll stay that way

I hope this sweepstake gets boycotted by everyone. They could had done a more fair and inclusive sweepstake by just offering moonstones that aren't taxed

Why even have giveaways and competitions outside of the game to begin with if you're literally excluding everybody except the US. They want to be inclusive...except when they don't feel like doing anything to make things inclusive. There are ways around this. For one, make all prizes digital so Y'ALL don't have to ship anything. Problem solved. I don't care what they say, they're still making very poor decisions on their part. They still CHOSE to do a giveaway to begin with even though they knew it meant that almost no one could enter. I wouldn't put blame on rules and regulations of other countries solely.

Because people will do anything to complain about everything and anything. People are blowing this up way more than it needs to be. WHO CARES!!!!! Just play the game or not play the game no one is forcing you to do either. People complain about the dreamsnaps .. people complain about easy free moonstones , people complain about updates or no updates. This is exactly why Nintendo and the devs stopped updating animal crossing .. keep up the complaining and this game will be next to no longer get anything. Hey at least they are doing things and giving us updates. So get over it and just enjoy the game or don’t enjoy it - play something else if you hate it. 😂
