This is why I love all the classic of Disney. It's pure art. No 3D can duplicate such charm and creativity. Disney please continue create art like these.

I’ve been studying the nine old men since I was 10 and have fallen in love with not only the fluidity of there work but the supreme craftsmanship of there illustrations, Marc Davis has not only in my opinion the best draftsmanship of the nine old but his subtle and painstaking attention to detail and secondary action in his scenes are just phenomenal. His scenes with not only tinker bell but a litany of other iconic characters makes him my favorite of the nine old men. Thanks for holding the contest Andy, love your work man.

5:13 well, most hand drawn animators (myself included) have a 360 degree rendering that we draw so we know how to keep continuity with how the character should look from all sides.

OoF I absolutely adore the old Didney History, and the 9 old men are absolutely amazing animators; and of course Ub Iwerks wasn't one of them at the time since he was head of tech but all of these men were Walt's top animators and directors. Unfortunately Walt was a little sour about giving them credit but I just adore the fact that he called them his 9OM, and because of that they were so well known. I'm so happy you're going over the shots because it's absolutely nostalgic! :)

I love animation. That's why I work in one animation company. But the production of each scene doing all the stuff takes a lot of time and effort. Sometimes it takes away all your energy and the charisma of animation is gradually dulling. But when you watched the whole episode in the tv it seems amazing. All your efforts put in some minutes that the viewers (kids) don't even notice all the frame by frame you did lol
@KatieZLIS

It's really neat how you can see the process of what the animators drew. You can see every bit of motion, both tiny and big, yet alltogether create the illusion of life. Seeing these flip books and the animators process/notes are both inspiring and a walk back in time, when they just did 2d paper animation (then colored and combined together). I love animation and and how one still drawing when combined with other drawing your picture comes to life. The flipbook I loved the most, (they're all so good) was the one done by Milt Kahl. The expression, overlapping action, the exaggeration and yet still maintaining clarity of the scene, it's so wonderful to see his animation process. All principles of animation are being followed and there you see a perfect finished product.

For me personally, I liked Marc Davis's flipbook the most because of the amount of detail he put into drawing Tinker Bell's dust on impact. I also am kind of amazed at how he got the toy block to flip while making it retain its shape. Every time I try to move a 3d object it gets squished or does not retain the same size as before.

This is EXACTLY how I felt about animation (still do!) and why I aspired to become one some day when I was young and full of life. Sadly, I never went after that dream. I wish I had, somehow. Hand drawn animation is and always will be the most beautiful form of animation. Disney and his team were pioneers. I would study their movies frame by frame on VHS tape, trying to figure out how life was given to the characters! To any aspiring amimators out there, follow your dreams. Never give up. Keep moving forward. Learn from your failures instead of giving up. Dream big, but work hard! ~From a Disney animator at heart.

The Lady and the Tramp. It's my favorite! One of my favorite Disney animal films growing up when I was first adopted. I would always go around the house, pretending I was one of the Siamese cats, singing their songs along with just loving animals.

Man! Those are really something! Especially Ward Kimbell's flipbook (Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum) literally the sound come out of my head. Which is fantastic that it reminds the animation movie I saw and how unique it is!

I loved the Fantasia one, Wizard Mickey is my favorite of all the versions, I even bought a Wizard Mickey clock when I went to Disneyland when I was 10, the arms pointed the hour. The details on the robe, the way the broom dances alongside him and the pure fluidity is just amazing. I rewatched the frame-by-frame here like 20 times because every time I caught new details and every movement is captured so well. I would love having it on my hands and analyze it like you say, flipping each page seeing each change.

I can imagine these men tell their kids/grandkids about their wonderful career days and they're so amazed about it. I'd be so amazed too. They're so amazing and talented! I NEED to get my hands on those flipbooks.
