I remember in high school our teacher showed us one of your history videos about discrimination during World War 2. It hit me mid-video, "Wait, doesn't this guy make Star Wars videos?" it was so surprising!
It's really sad that Star Wars channels are somewhat dying out. Even sadder that a lot of the ones that are growing are doing so through rage bait. I wonder if this channel's increasing use of rage bait titles is to attract that crowd. (Sorry if this comment posts twice, didn't seem to post the first time)
The most painful thing about this whole situation is how Disney completely squandered the platinum coated golden opportunity to really launch Star Wars back in 2015. They could have done anything but ran the franchise into the ground with a soft reboot that nullified the previous trilogies and ruined the sequel’s chance to have its own story since it was stuck with another rebels vs. empire/light side user vs. dark side order conflict. Then they learned all the wrong lessons from the sequels and now have absolutely no idea what to with Star Wars outside of throwing stuff to the wall and seeing what keeps subs active on Disney+. Now it’s been 10 years since Force Awakens and Star Wars has just never been so apathetic. Even at the heights of the prequel and sequel hate phases, as negative as it was, there was at least engagement and conversation. Now, Star Wars really has become something that people can just ignore and not care about. There’s just nothing special about it anymore and that’s a tragedy.
Well said. They wasted every golden ticket. Such a shame. I don’t any care if this trilogy happens or not. I’m not any sure what would make me happy. I guess a KOTOR story but would need to have someone in charge that loves and understands the story.
Personally I think star wars is in a rut just like after ep3 but at least the prequels had cool stuff happening in the background and there simply was too much too fit into 3 movies, the scale was massive and you wanted to learn more. The sequels well.. nothing really happens without the direct involvement of the 4 main characters and its like all the unique details of the star wars universe was sand blasted off to pave a path for the 4 characters
It’s kids crazy to imagine too, that from episode 1 in 1999 till George sold the right in 2012 that we had ep1 to3, clone wars, the clone wars, all the iconic games from battlefront 1 and 2, empire at war, kotor 1 and 2, Lego starwars, technically the old republic mmo, all the various other games tied to movies on various platforms and all the comic books. And then you have Disney sequels, in almost the same length of time you have rogue one and andor and I guess the first 2 seasons of Mando. Mabye fallen order and Jedi survivor, squadrons and that’s one Lego game? Everything else has been squandered or a bad idea. The sequel trilogy, solo, Mando s3, obiwan, book of boba fett, Asoka, acolyte, battlefront 1 fiasco, battlefront 2 fiasco, outlaws, that one cruise they did (galactic star liner or something), the comics have been inferior too. Just a waste of a decade for starwars, they don’t even touch the sequel trilogy cause there aren’t any worthwhile stories to tell afterwards. Like how did they not see this as a possible issue when they were basically copying everything from the originals? Brain dead decisions Not even mentioning all the other dropped projects and possible trilogies
@@wearsjorge55really it was just 1 character, Poe was just "offscreen immortal" like Johnson(of Halo fame), and Finn was just shit on by the creators after TFA, Rey was literally just a plot device but without her the sequels just didn't happen... It's that pathetic.
i just wish star wars would stop announce a new movie evry 5 min its frankly getting dump same with tv series where is the lando series hmm or rangers of the new republic
@@cipher48Yeah, shit was dumb we really shoulda got that show. It was NOT that big of a deal, and the elements of it they were forced to sprinkle in Mando S3 and Ahsoka too low-key had way more negative affect
@@joshuasatterwhite9520 Bro, she said being a republican is like being a jew in the holocaust. You cant say absolutely brainless shit like that in a function which requires you to be in the spotlight. And instead of at least retracting the statement, she doubled down. She is just a delusional moron.
I personally like seeing so many people in the film industry have the dignity to give up dealing with the company and just walk away from a potentially extremely lucrative or prestigious project. Gets the point across better than any of us trying to reason with execs, or at least I hope it will eventually after enough money is blown on unfinished projects to start affecting that bottom line.
It also means that if somebody wanted to start a totally new space opera of their own it wouldn't be too hard to totally replace star wars and make it a long forgotten part of the past.
Except it's not "dignity" or "integrity". Its just Self Preservation. The property doesn't make money or boost careers, so why risk the downsides of taking the project? Even with the original trilogy, Harrison Ford is the only Famous for Star Wars Actor that became a big thing.
switching writers, directors, whatever, ALWAYS kills any project. it's stupid, either pay your creators to see it through or get out. They are killing their franchise and pretty soon it won't turn a profit smh
@ninjalectualx id say it's more sexist for you to think gender is what people don't like about Kathleen. If a man made the same creative decisions he'd get the same amount of vitriol, Rian Johnson didn't get special treatment
@@ninjalectualx You don't think women are equal to men that's why you assumed his take was based on her sex when in reality it's only based on her performance.
I don't understand how Kathleen Kennedy hasn't been fired. Like we all meme about her all the time but in all seriousness no manager could oversee this many dumpster fires and keep their job.
Star Wars is one of, if not the biggest franshise to ever exist. There is not a single person on the planet, outside of Amazonian tribes and island cultures, that haven't at least heard of Star Wars. The fact that Disney, Lucusfilms and Kathleen Kennedy managed to continuously make such bad decisions and ruin the franshise is nothing short of infuriating. Let them continue to mess up. Let them continue to make their embarrassing mistakes. Let the humiliation continue. I love Star Wars, I was Obi-wan and then Anakin for 2 Halloweens. But everything that's happened to the franchise over the past ten years is just so... sad. I can't even be bothered to keep up on the new lore. it just makes me angry to think that they did so little with so much.
The fact that they announced this at Celebration and got Daisy Ridley to do it is embarrassing. Not just for Lucasfilm but for Daisy as it now looks in development hell. I don't think a Rey movie should be a priority at all as her character arc looked finished at the end of the sequel trilogy.
But Star Wars always existed within a capitalist system. The original movie was capitalized to oblivion so is it really capitalism? @@kentocogburn4553
Star Wars was a story written & told by George Lucas. It was his vision. His dream. When you sever the connection between a story & its author, it dies. I don't care what people choose to criticize about the Prequels or Return of the Jedi. They are the heart of a narrative. A narrative that disney & execs have refused to give the same kind of love & compassion to. Re-writes, re-directs, gender politics, focus groups, etc. None of those things will fill that hole. Write a story & see it through.
Ya where starwars left itself on a cliff moving forward when they fill the timeline with all the old era stuff there’s nowhere to go. (From a D&D side point makes it perfect to build that bridge.)
Thanks for that perfect book list Eck! I wish I had that when I started gettin into SW audiobooks 4 years ago. Because I just finished I, Jedi and the Thrawn Duology within the last 6 months simply because I didn't really know about them. Unfortunately tho, I've listened to all of those on your list now (except the 2 that aren't unabridged yet.) So time to keep listening to new books and seeing what else is out there!
you say the characters in the sequels were good but rey sucks. So did finn, tho he had a potential. They wasted most of their characters. Anything involving rey is going to suck and i really dont want to see anything more involved with rey. I want a fresh start with new characters that are better written.
Finn, who just left the only life he knew as an indoctrinated soldier having been taken from his parents as a child, should not have been the class clown.
It would be nice if Disney would stop shooting itself in the foot. I think what would help is if they stop trying to decide everything by the marketing committee
I think part of the problem is intense exec management. Disney doesn't want SW movies to fail after the production problems of Solo, Rogue One (even if that movie turned out well in the end) or the strategic failure of the sequel trilogy. The result is intense micromanagement and focus groups as they try to make it perfect and maximum box office draw. The result is writers and directors get fed up and leave for other projects and the film dies a slow death.
Disney has been screwing up a LOT of their franchises and films of late. Marvel is also failing and the Disney animated films have not been hits for a long time. Right now, Disney seems more focused on developing Disney+, and the interest in the franchises are at an all time low. EVen if Skeleton Crew is a hit...I don't think that will be enough to restart things.
The channel update was nice. I've been here since almost the very beginning, throughout all the Sequels hype (and discussions...) and the EaW campaigns over on EcksToo. Your other channels are not for me but it's great to hear that you're successful with them. My interest in Star Wars has sadly reduced over the past view years from its peak in ~2020 but I'm here for the long ride none the less! :)
We are truly divided now, unfortunately. I also feel as though RU-vid, with their information checks and community strikes, could very well be trying to divide us as well. Just my two cents.
Ya, it is very demoralizing to see so many movies never happen. I do not care what the reasons were it shows how poorly things are run over at Disney with Star Wars. That they couldn't overcome issues to make at least a few happen. They just poofed into thin air and that was that. When you combine that with the quality of the streaming shows being so sporadic it really makes you just want to jump ship and not wait for them to get their shit together. Also sucks that you are feeling under the weather with the voice. Get better soon mate whatever it is!
This is a Disney problem. They do it with all the films they are “making”, but Marvel and Lucasfilm are the worst for it because they are Cinematic Universes, and it’s clear that they aren’t actually doing the work to actually build the universe anymore in a cohesive way. Projects are being announced with no plans other than a star attached (see Blade) or a name. They need to put Star Wars in a box for a few years, fire everyone, and then come back after they’ve made an American Graffiti reboot or something that’s been tepidly accepted as “huh not too bad”. It worked for Star Trek, and regardless of what you think of the individual shows, it’s a good time to be a Trekkie with lots of arguably good stuff coming out, and perhaps that approach can work for Star Wars too. Also Eck, what the heck was that song at the end? That”s not how the videos are supposed to wrap up…i was confused as the poor doggo was being all shook up to some new music! Please reinstate the normal end music. Thank you.
It's going to be the better part of the next five to ten years before star wars reclaims any kind of glory, and that's assuming they make any good content. Based on the plans they had for the Acolyte, they had nothing but garbage planned. I wouldn't place any kind of huge bet on this franchise and things going back to where they were.. Right now it's holding on to Faverau's member berries and even that is getting stale.
I think their smaller projects have actually been pretty good, mando, andor, visions, bad batch, even that new lego spinoff. When its a smaller less known project they seem to do fairly well. I honestly wouldnt complain if star wars from now on was mostly these smaller projects.
At this point they are too into wanting all people to love their work. Most of what they have put out recently is just hyper-safe fluff. They don't seem to be willing to take any chances on things. Which is probably why we keep seeing writers and directors quit projects. If you aren't willing to let a writer or director explore their vision and be creative. Then what is the point in hiring them. I would quit too if every draft I handed had notes every time I viered off the safe path. Or at least that is what I assume is happening, as they have gotten a bunch of big names, and compitant people who could do a good star wars movie attached to things. Then once they get announced and work on things for a few months they quit or get removed from the project.
speaking of starwars dying i feel like this greatly accelerated by the bandwagon of the ‘culture war’ and controversy between creators we all wish the culture war bs didn’t seep into starwars but it is simply just a symtom of a long running franchise thats in a rutt if you guys dont want starwars to die off support shows like andor, visions, bad batch, the mandalorian etc. to show lucas films what we want
Disney and Kennedy have a problem. How do they make Star Wars a successful franchise while INSISTING on DELIBERATELY making products they KNOW the fans are going to hate. Especially now that the 'modern audience' that they were counting on to replace the REAL Star Wars fans with barely turned up.. They could have built upon George Lucas's legacy in the manner of the Expanded Universe, honouring what came before while evolving the storyline further. Instead they took the approach of degrading and destroying the legacy aspects - including the characters - of Star Wars , while attempting to replace them with something more to their own taste, even if it didn't make sense (also, that last minute substitute of a replacement 'Skywalker' after deliberately killing off the original family was absolutely clunky). Favreau has attempted to return Star Wars to it's roots, but as long as Kathleen Kennedy and her minions are around, he's constantly going to be facing an uphill battle. I think another issue has been that people have joined Lucasfilm with the genuine intention of making things the Star Wars fans will love, only to discover that's exactly what the activists running the place - including the boss - DON'T want..
Disney can't stop announcing their projects because they are so bad that if they waited to announce until it was about to come out, it would be absolutely disastrous. Disney has sold its soul to stakeholder investors and had no real exit plan on how to operate without their money. This train only has one stop: Getting Sold.
I had no idea about t he other channels. That's awesome man! I'm so happy you get to live your passion. Wish you had our in the name of the marvel channel, would love to check it out
I think that much like Star Wars, Marvel stuff has been put out and announced so often that a lot of it is dying in preproduction as well. I mean they just took the new Blade movie off of the release docket. Disney is trying to put out too much too quickly and it's just ending badly.
@@kodyshaw6991 “Your father’s lightsaber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.” - Obi-Wan Kenobi Then Luke later threw it off a cliff... drank green milk... taught Rey nothing... and she magically became all powerful.
@Aetoski Yes, I remember the movies. But for all intents and purposes, Anakins lightsaber wasn't "Luke's". He inherited it, sure, but his lightsaber is the one he made in RotJ. By saying Anakins lightsaber is now Luke's because of inheritance, then by that logic it becomes Rey's by the same rules. I dont like that outcome, so I refer to the blue Skywalker lightsaber as Anakins.
I think Disney is still absolutely without a plan. I'd love too see Heirs of the Empire in cinema. But I doubt it will ever be made. A bunch of fans could do more creative stuff!
They need to just pool all their teams into 1 movie. Instead of working on like dozens of projects half of which are delayed, in limbo, or just gone. Obviously some shows like Andor Season 2 are more concretely being worked on stuff like that should be prioritized instead of these void movies that never happen.
The issue is that Star Wars is hyper-analyzed, with every move that Lucasfilm makes fuel for the genre blogosphere. They are trying to respond to demand by making exciting announcements too early. The thing is, movie deals fall apart all the time, we just never hear about them. With Star Wars, we're going to hear something. By trying to get in front of that, they are creating a bad look for themselves. They really need to stop doing that, but they are in a tough spot.
Disney can’t even let a SHOW be consistent between 2 seasons. Their movies have not once fully landed, even rogue 1 had some glaring issues simply being the most polished of 6+ turds.
Disney? Making poor decisions and embarrassing itself in the pursuit of the all mighty dollar and slowly killing a beloved franchise at the behest of stakeholders who don’t know or care? No. I simply REFUSE to believe that Disney of all companies would do this. You’ve gone too far.
#askeks What are your thoughts on SW fan content such as fan stories? Do you think there will be a day that side of SW will be covered/reviewed or is the (water) well for official SW content such as from the movies, TV, games, and books larger than I think it is? I mention this because to me it seems that the content from SW seems to be going in circles when it comes to what content creators of SW talk about.
Eckhart, when I think of all the great Star Wars stories that Disney could have brought forth from the wonderful Dark Horse comics and the books, I feel an enormous sense of loss. Not just for the stories that were written, but for all the unwritten stories forever laying dormant in the minds of the talented writers and artists that wisely refused to touch Disney with a ten foot pole. But I also feel the loss of the myriad moments of people like us bonding over those stories. It really hurts, knowing that in the end guys like The Critical Drinker were right about the consequences of Disney's endless mismanagement. Maybe in 40 or 50 years we'll get a small Star Wars revival like with Flash Gordon in the 1980s, and someone will be inspired by it to hold groundbreaking puppet shows in the newly rad-free ruins of today's theatres... Sigh.
Hi ecks #askeks could you you make a video on when how why the vong took over there galaxy and how they got to the main galaxy or if not pls do how the old republic worked
One movie has gone into production in 5 years. 1. And that is a glorified longer episode of the Mandalorian. It is embarrassing. Baffling that KK still has a job. They are leaving money on the ground
@askeck - Have you seen all the new comics that have recently been announced and began releasing? Are you/ have you been interested in Star Wars comics at all? It doesn’t seem like you talk much about them.
They pushed out all the skilled people who could deliver product. For whatever reason they prioritised the wants of some of their creatives over all else. Another irony is suggestions that the educational sector is corrupted too, where if you do not agree with political or social beliefs of your peers you cannot participate in education without harassment. It's a pretty impressive attempt at destruction. On the plus side this does drive home the idea that these types of agendas are self limiting when they don't have popular support of the fans. The down side is it seems to take a very long time for the businesses to understand this and decide to change course. It's really odd and will likely be analysed for years, it doesn't seem to make sense that shareholders were pushing for this consistently in light of the ever mounting evidence that it simply wasn't working. This is many years old now, it must be some sort of corruption of the decision making process. Maybe simply ideological delusion? It needs to be understood why.
It literally would be better if they just stopped promising the community stuff, and work on something people might actually like a bit more. Disney just seems to be fumbling with their bag as of late, and the sequels weren't all bad, but yeah. I say keep their money where their mouth is.
What do you think about the technological compatibility in the EU??? I mean like the Lost tribe was able to repair the Omen with “modern” technology even though the Omen was 5000+ years old at that point and the Tribe had no prior knowledge of that technology. And it’s not uncommon to hear about ancient technology being used and modified with new tech. #askeck
Do what the wrestling youtube channels did during the early 2010s dark ages and go back to the elden days, basically finding the best stuff then the wackiest stuff in the old marvel starwars comics.
The problem is Kathleen Kennedy is the worst studio head in the history of movies. She has absolutely no idea what she's doing. She took the biggest money making franchise of all time, and made it worth less than Star Trek. That almost takes work. You almost have to do that on purpose.
