i LOVE the idea of channels on Disney plus. i wish Netflix would add a "playlist/queue" option. I don't like when people compare streaming platforms to cable because remember, streaming is a library catalogue where you can access it at any time. Cable you were forced to follow THEIR schedules and you missed a show, you had to get a DVR or just wait for them to air reruns. So even though streaming has ads, the library aspect of it is immensely more valuable than cable.

The main problem with streaming is the development cost. Broadcast TV shows were traditionally much cheaper, so you could make a lot more of them and see what audiences liked. With streaming there's at most a half-dozen huge shows that have to appeal to everyone, because if they fail the losses are in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It's just not a good model for creativity. Traditionally the best model for creativity is lots of relatively cheap, low stakes creations made by a wide variety of people. Most of them may fail, but the cost of each individual failure is relatively low. And the few that do succeed make up for all the others. Books are like this, and comics. And broadcast TV.

I've been sailing the seven seas for years now. Disney isn't getting a cent out of me.

The live channels are actually genius (evil genius). You know that feeling when you open your streaming app and spend 30 minutes trying to decide what to watch? Just flip to the live channel and let Disney choose for you.

They do this in their parks too. They actually just want people waiting in line paying for fast passes instead of actually enjoying the park. If you think about it, someone pays thousands to come to your park and then pays you more to go stand in one place for hours. You take their money and you’re just as puzzled as them.

Yeah I do watch alot of the old movies and shows I grew up watching as a kid. If Disney wants to justify their price hike, they need to open up their vault and allow all their content available. Their Kdramas they been making, which you can only see on Hulu. All the Disney cartoons they produced over the decades, their direct to video movies and sequel to big cartoons. Heck Aladdin the tv show isn't available I believe. Do that Disney! Even make Song of the South available!

I dropped both Disney and Netflix for that reason. I don’t miss them.

To me, nothing is worth more than $10 a month, really. Especially not stuff I can watch for free so easily. And double especially when I can get days of fun from a video game for less. Possibly years if it's multiplayer. And half of those are free. I've put like 2,000 hours into Smite which is free. Why would I spend like $16 per month for maybe 8 hours of a show? Or 2-3 of a movie?

Have never paid for Disney+ Soon I will have every relevant Star Wars film/Series on physical media. It feels liberating. BUY DVDs. Stop paying for Disney to watch Star Wars.

Also if people reallllyyy wanna watch these shows there are sooo many ways to sail the seas to find them. I’m not saying do that but so many people choose that over paying for another streaming service with one or two shows they wanna check outb

I think a big problem in tech, but it translated to entertainment I think due to the overlap with tech... Apple can abuse their customer base without losing customer loyalty. Everyone looks at this and forget that their customer's goodwill is the most important asset a company can have. Trust is hard to build, easy to lose and almost impossible to regain. Companies keep getting blasted by their lack of regard to their consumers, but they don't learn because they turn around and there stands Apple, beloved, even idolized, by their customer base despite the growing abuse they are being subjected to. Obviously, it's the way to go to make a successful business.

What is the address rate for that tier? How many ads per show watched

Hey, Thor... I lived in a city which had, for a long time, every gas station (regardless of the company) raise and drop prices at the same time so you had to pay the same wherever you went. This sounds like the way the streaming services are going now - don't compete with low prices but offer the same or similar higher prices. We eventually had the government step in because consumers are hurt when there is no competition but don't see that happening down in the U.S.

D+ is rubbish! I got it this month so I could watch the last two seasons of agents of shield because they're the only onesi dont have on dvd. Then I watched the first 3 seasons of Solar Opposites. Now there's nothing else I want to watch. 🥴

You guys, as well as anyone else, are free to exercise your choice as consumers by ending your subscription to Disney Plus. But that would dry the trough, wouldn't it?

Disney+ has consistently had meh to poor content and not a lot of it. Mando s1 was good (but not incredible). WandaVision was really good, but really failed in the last episode or two and quickly grew old on rewatch. Loki s2 was good, but still not great. I have sadly not gotten past the first episode of Andor. X-Men 97 was really enjoyable, but not perfect.

Why complain? You and others bought into the notion that streaming was the only way and it really wasn't. It's basically the Brit television model. It was all well and good doing covid because you were home a lot. But did you think it was going to last forever? Think you were going to get real movies at home for super cheap???🤦‍♀

So you want less content at higher quality? Then you complain that it costs more and that there isn't new stuff everytime you turn on the TV. This is why streaming is a losing proposition.
