I agree!! Other reactors act like they're not even paying attention to the movie because they ask dumb questions that are clearly addressed in the movie, or they just jam to the songs without listening to the messages. This movie is deep with layers, and its a beautiful work of art. I loved your reaction to this and have subscribed ❤

Whenever Abuela told the story she focused mostly on how she was given a miracle. She never really talked about how much it hurt to watch Pedro be killed or about the fact that she still misses him and wanted to live a normal life with him and their children even without the Casita, the miracle and the gifts. I think she's been grieving him all those years but hasn't been sharing her grief so it's stayed with her in ways it shouldn't have.

Notice in the end montage that she is wearing her grieving shawl all those years. When she walks through the house and it shows her getting old, that black shawl is still wrapped around her shoulders.

Definitely, she still has that mourning shawl wrapped around her. For 50 years she was carrying that pain, and it will probably affect her for as long as she lives too.

If you'll notice, when Abuela's telling the story at the beginning you just see her younger self frowning and bowing her head after Abuelo dies - but when she tells it again at the end, she's screaming, reaching out to him and slamming her hand on the ground. She had convinced herself for so long that nothing was wrong, that she was handling everything so well, when in reality she was still screaming and crying inside having never addressed that pain properly. That realization is what allowed her to start healing and take accountability for the harm she was doing to the family. This movie was honestly so well done

Fun fact! Luisa is actually the middle child, the older one is Isabela. That explains why she tries to be perfect so hard (and even agree to marry a guy she didn't like). Also, notice how Isabela looks a lot like Abuela when she was young, she even has the same braid hairstyle Abuela had when she was young (the scene where Mirabel is trying to help with decoration and ends up burning the paper thingy she made). Being the 1st grandchild, Abuela probably saw herself in Isabela and that's t why she wanted her to marry a guy that also looks similar to her husband Pedro, so Isabela could have the life she never could :(((

26:52 Bruno said the vision was out of order. It could've meant that she was supposed to embrace Isabella, it could've meant that she was meant to embrace Abuela, or it could've meant she had to embrace both, but in any case her having a heart-to-heart with Isabella as good as started it all.

It's not just your head canon, it's a central message of the movie. Mirabel is Abuela's successor as the center of the family. Healing and embracing and unifying the whole house--the whole family--is her gift.

As many reactions to this as I've watched, I still cry when we get Abuela's backstory. Just the song alone makes me tear up 😥 We finally see why she's the way she is. And I saw another comment somewhere, that chances are she never got to go thru the grieving process after she lost Pedro. She had 3 babies to raise, and a brand new village to watch out for that sprang out of the candle. Such a wonderfully done movie.

That's what I gathered as well. She pushed her grief aside because she had 3 children counting on her. She became a new mother, a single mother and a widow all on the same day but never could address her trauma and grief because not just her family but the entire town was relying on her to be strong. It's sad. To everyone, including her own family, Abuela was invincible. It doesn't change the things she did but it does allow one to understand why she did these things and where she started going wrong. And it opens up grounds for discussion and possible forgiveness from her family.

I liked what you said about elder sisters! And that definitely makes sense with Luisa feeling that pressure from the family. But the fact that she is also getting that pressure from the village is soooo unfair 😅 when you said: "They just use this girl! She's just doing EVERYTHING!" I think that pretty much sums up how the village treats Luisa (and how they treat the rest of the family). In the proposal scene, when Señora Guzmán says "Luisa can you move the piano?" I want to yell..."No, your grown son can walk his grown butt over to the dang piano if he wants to serenade Isabela." 🙄😅 I am so glad they all showed up at the end to help rebuild Casita! I was like yaaassss finally! It was about time they gave something back to the Madrigals after all the Madrigals have given to them! 🙏🥰💕 Great reaction! Thanks for the awesome content! Mirabel may not have a magical gift, but she is very gifted: smart, funny, loving, brave, and just a little bit weird (in the best way). Not perfect (nobody is), but none-the-less, as her madre Julieta said, "special". Very special indeed.

@@raynellhall2847 If she had actually gotten a Gift, and actual magical Gift, it would have ruined the central message of the movie. She has signs for everyone in the family on her dress too. Most likely, she's the next matriarch of the family so just like Abuela, she doesn't get a magical Gift of her own.

As a Colombian I loved your reaction. You may be surprised to learn that all landscapes are real. You can search for the river called Caño Cristales also known as the river of 7 colors, you can also search for the Cocora Valley or for a small town called Salento, you can also search for Feria de las Flores in Medellin. Grandma's story is very common in my country due to political violence, even today it continues to happen. Thanks to Disney for showing us to the world as we are and without stereotypes.

My theory is that Mirabel's gift is pulling people into fun-blown musical numbers without their even knowing it. That's why everyone thinks she "doesn't have a gift," because they can't consciously recognize when they're breaking into song and dance; they think they were just talking the whole time. ;) (No, I don't really think that, but I find it an amusing thought.)

Broad-range reality control, time stop, and telepathy to make those around her do an entire musical number about what they're thinking, all at the same time. Then it alters their memory to leave them thinking they just had a normal conversation with her. Can even pull in donkeys and make them participate. Frankly, she's overpowered.

Right out the gate Lin-Manuel Miranda couldn't write a bad song if he tried. Secondly, I live how this movie is about family, pure and simple. Families struggle, everyone in the family deals with some kind of pressure. It's easy to feel like the odd one out (speaking from experience, here). I can't wait to watch it again. Just an imaginative story, with a great message about family.

Luisa is actually the Middle child. The reason she has so much responsibilities is because her gift of super strength is something that no one else in the village can do and it comes into use more often than needing to heal others which is honestly the next most useful gift

As a Colombia I can confirm that, it's normal to give childs coffee, for small ones a smooth coffee with milk and Panela (a kind of unprocessed sugar) and for the teenagers a normal dark coffee. In Colombia is normal to take coffee almost every day (3 or 4 per days). So, if you want to take vacations here, Welcome, and prepare to take a lot of coffee. 😋

This was a great reaction! Encanto is such an incredible movie that I really relate to because of the intergenerational trauma focus of it. I do wanna mention, though, that Luisa isn't the eldest sister. Isabela is the eldest, then Luisa, and then Mirabel is Julieta's youngest.

I'm the youngest daughter in a Mexican household, and I was the "Luisa" of the family. I cooked and cleaned after 7 people, and when my oldest nephew was born, he and my sis shared a room with me, and I was the one waking up with him at night. My sister was the "Isabela". This movie made me feel SEEN and HEARD, and I bawl like a baby everytime! 🥰🥰

As so many others, Abuela never had a chance to get through her trauma. There are still people alive from WW2 that went through terrible stuff and they never got any help, because they were just children and they didn't know how back then. My grandmother was one of those people and it affects our family to this day. More are created each day due to wars and conflicts all over the world, sadly.

I can definitely see Bruno in the Psyche and Eros story when Psyche's parents are so worried that she's the only one of their three daughters who isn't married yet event hough she's so flawlessly beautiful that people are saying things like 'she's as pretty as Aphrodite' or 'she's more beautiful than Aphrodite' or 'she's the new Aphrodite' or 'she's Aphrodite in human form' (all of which are stupid things to say because Aphrodite/Venus hates rivals - she's the good and the bad sides of love, all it's beauty, joy, desire and happiness but also all it's jealousy, misery, rage and occasionally hatred so she's very temperamental) that they go to the oracle and they're told that Psyche is destined to marry a winged monster that all the gods fear and that even Zeus/Jupiter is powerless against, and didn't elaborate on whether that was literal or a metaphor because the monster she's destined to marry is Eros/Cupid the god of love. I can see Bruno either being saddened by the vision enough to stop looking at it or for people to think that he meant it literally or for people to leave before he had a chance to say 'but wait...she's going to be happy' or 'but wait a minute....the monster is Cupid!?!?' or 'tell psyche not to trust her sisters!'
