Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular is the Halloween fireworks show held during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. It is a fantastic show, but it's best to be closer to Cinderella Castle for a view of the giant Jack Skellington puppet! We were in the front row center to see him and the projections on the castle. This is the full show and features Jack at the beginning and end.

@@undyne1 No worries😉 They are similar except a marionette is controlled by strings with bendable limbs to give it more life like movements. Most of the time they're also made of wood. For instance Pinocchio would be considered a marionette not a puppet because of how he is portrayed as being constructed. So both are similar but with very distinct differences 😊

Silvermoon The main difference between a puppet and marionette is that the puppet is mostly an inanimate object or representational figure animated that’s controlled by an entertainer while the marionette is a puppet that’s controlled by an individual from above or below by using wires or strings connected to the marionette to control the limbs or the movement of body parts. It’s really cool how Disney displayed Jack Skellington in this show, feels very similar to the Coco live show where they used Miguel as a marionette in Disneyland California Adventures.

While the sound track I fell isn't as great as previous years, and it didn't seem to feature as much fire works, but I simply adore the presentation. The projections on the castle was amazing, and a great way to tell a story. And I can't describe how fantastical that Jack Skelington puppet is. Of all the event Disney has at their parks, Halloween time seems to be my favorite. And this show was wonderful. :3

Not as grand as HalloWishes and not as whimsical as before. The projections on the castle are always grand and it's a good show just lacking some of the magic. I do love the Halloween decorations plus Fall equals a cooldown.

I love the jack puppet! It was so cool, and I was able to see it pretty close up, but not this close! The whole show was very fun and I loved Zero’s role.

He's actually not a marionette. Look close in certain shots and you can see the puppeteer behind him. He is cleverly hidden in all black while Jack is lit up with black lights to focus our attention on Jack. It's a very clever and well executed puppet for sure.

How did they manage to make his face become so lively?!? If that’s just robotic engineering my minds literally gonna blow up because those are the smoothest facial expressions I’ve ever seen on a robot!! (Or maybe the marionette is doing it?? That would also be extremely impressive since they would have to control both the body and face! I’m so blown away by how lifelike Jack is I’m gonna cry)!

i’m very sure that that isn’t the original ursula but i know Hades’ voice actor loved the role enough that he always reprises his role (like in the hercules tv show, the kingdom hearts video games, virtually everything hades is in) so i’m pretty sure it’s him

They easily could have done the characters in the style of the Disney Channel shorts or in CG but they gave them their traditional eD looks. On top of that, they used the Trick or Treat song from the old Donald Cartoon! Even without the Jack puppet, I'm impressed.

Just kinda wished the fantastic 4 could have shown up IN Cartoon/persona (on stage at the end) When they run out of the haunted castle in their halloween costumes just at the end. Just would have been a cherry on top to see them live on stage as well for the finale. ya know? Like Boom!

You can tell Imagineering put a lot of love into this one 😍 it payed off, this is the most visually stunning show yet in my opinion. The projection mapping is seamless, the story flows smoothly, the animations are amazing, the fireworks are amazing, and Jack's presence on stage is larger than life...which is fitting for him 😂

Marionettes are a type of puppet, Music Lover. To say that something is a marionette but not a puppet makes no sense. Besides, Jack isn't a marionette anyway. He's being performed by a person standing onstage using large rods, not suspended from above with wires.

The word "marionette" exists separately from the word "puppet" in order to denote a subset within what we know of as puppets. As an analogy, the word "dog" exists separately from the word "mammal", but all dogs are considered mammals.

@@Perradocx I know your having fun with Google definitions and want badly to be right. But I'll say it again...a puppet and a marionette are VERY similar but with VERY distinct differences!! Hence the invention of the two words, hence why we don't run around calling dogs mammals! Its because there are VARIOUS types of mammals with VERY distinct biological differences. Otherwise we would be calling dogs cats and vice versa which MAKES NO SENSE!! So a marionette is distinctly different than an average puppet! Sorry...not sorry!

My point still stands about Jack not being a marionette. He isn't suspended in the air. He isn't being held up by wire or strings. He's more like a carnival puppet.

Quick fact: the puppet is actually not a marionette, as a marionette is controlled via strings. If you look closely, this puppet is manipulated by a guy in a harness, who utilizes rods. His body is connected to the puppet. His legs move the legs, and his hands, manipulating rods, move the puppets arms. A good example of this type of puppetry is seen in the puppetry of the Bossmen, some full-body rod Henson puppets. (Footage here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y3oIMdP9iB0.html) Since those characters were created, technology has obviously advanced. I'm thinking there may be an extra puppeteer back there, or some of his head may be radio controlled. I'm not positive, however, But overall, it's a great puppet design!

After further close examination of the footage, yes. There is a second puppeteer back there. I saw the outline of his head in comparison to the other person's head. Both puppeteers work together in tandem to make this wonderful marvel come to life.
