I like imagining them going back to class between Recesses and how alkward it would be having classes with Gus.

Gus failing the Solomon test kinda foreshadowed how things would be.

This show was ahead of its time. I’m 25 so, the show premiered just before I was born but, as an adult, I enjoy watching this.

I never got the philosophy of Gus wanting to divide the doll up in two and give half each to the two girls as a kid, but I just now realized where it came from. It came from the famous judgment of King Solomon when he ordered his guard to divide the baby in two and give half to each woman who were claiming that the child was there's.

Out of all recess episodes this one always stuck with me. It was my first life lesson about dictators and too much power.

Absolute Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals.

the doll delema was a refrence to one of the famous judgements in the court of wise king Solomon when two woman claimed to be the mother of a child,solomon propose the child cut in half and given to both woman,one of the mothers gave in and offered to give up the child so that it wouldnt be harmed,solomon knew at that point who the real mother was.

I like how this actually teaches how real dictatorships work - "hard labor." Gus becomes Kim Jong Il in 20 minutes 😂

Gus formed a cookie addiction fast

Gus grew up in a military home. He could have seen drill Sargents like his dad demanding respect and giving orders like you need to do to train people for war. That’s why he has an army willing to follow.

I was happy Gus did this, his friends feel like they were going to use him anyway to get the power so might as well go mad yourself LOL.

This is arguably one of my favorite "Recess" episodes solely based on "The Great Gus Song" (7:22).

By the time they'd get to high school, I could just see King Bob, Jarden, and Jerome running their student government like the presidency and senior staff. Straight up West Wing style, right down to referring to King Bob as "Mr. President" and conducting all of their business in walk and talks.

This episode and economics of recess are my favorites.the messages about how society government law and economy work in a abstract kid friendly way are interesting too watch.the whole idea behind this episode is too show children not too blindly follow your government and too hold on to your own beliefs and too stand up for your rights as a human being..and too not let a tyrant ran monarchy rule over your lives..

I get the feeling Bob only wanted to see Spinelli to tell her in person how ridiculous her application is. Hopefully her power-craze will end in a brief and abrupt humiliation.

Always wondered who would become king when the main characters became 6th graders…My first instinct is to say TJ because he is already the leader of the group. But he loves playing at recess so much, I’m not sure he would want to just sit up in the jungle gym all day and part of me thinks he might turn the job down if offered. I could see Vince stepping up and handling the job well. Or it would be interesting if the whole group ruled together as a kind of council haha

The part of the girls and the doll reminds me of King Solomon. He only threatened to cut the surviving baby just in an attempt to stop a fight, but though one woman agreed, the other objected and said the former could have him, so the latter was granted custody to the baby.
