The problem with a low cost line-skip is that because of the price point, it makes it pretty much mandatory to buy one. Having a higher price line-skip is actually a good thing because it means less people buy it, which means standby line moves a little quicker and it doesn't feel like it's required.
This! If “everyone” has a fast pass, then no one has one. Cast members take 9 LL guests for every 1 standby guest, making the stand by lines excruciating
@@LauraB.335 It really wouldn’t. The proof was there just before Genie+ launched. Park numbers were back up, but wait times stayed down. The longest wait I had during that period for anything was 35 minutes. Most were 15-20.
I personally am for only spending something like $25 to skip the line vs. hundreds of dollars for universal's express pass or staying at their premier hotel. If I can cut out 3-4 hours of wait time, it's worth it to me.
I understand this doesn’t affect you guys but there are a LOT of guests each year from international destinations and with this, unlike with FastPass+, you are not able to pre-book your Lightning Lanes until you actually step foot in the US. So you don’t get the 7 day advantage if you’re staying on property. You don’t even get the 3 day advantage. You’re left with the dregs that are available on the day you arrive. More needs to be made of this and Disney needs to sort it out. The old system allowed ticket holders from anywhere to pre-book so why doesn’t Lightning Lane?
Disney originally built Fast Pass into the price of the ticket. This is just another method to push the cost of the guest experience. I consider it similar to Disney charging for parking at their hotels.
Soon outdoor queues that have a covered part will have that removed. Oh! You want the sun to stop beating down on you for 100 minutes? Buy Iger+ ! Must buy for every member in your package and you must pay for entire length of stay - even if it’s your last day. The cooling fans in Rise are getting replaced with heat lamps 🤣
@@metallicnole4514nope Disney prices have been going up beyond other forms of entertainment even factoring inflation in. It's not an inflation problem. It's a Disney problem.
@@mattdaaamon So long as people are paying it, disney can charge whatever they want because they are considered a premium product. But you are free to spend your money however you see fit. Should ralph lauren be charging as much as they do for polo shirts?
Well everyone used to have 3 fast passes for free. I wish they would go back to that. You think if the lines were removed wait times would be quicker in general?
This new system perfectly combines the worst aspects of both FastPass+ (rides running out of passes well before the day of unless you book an onsite hotel and do your homework in advance) and Genie+ (being a paid version of something we used to have for free). This may actually be the very worst line skip system ever devised. If one class divide in the Disney parks wasn't enough, now you have two (onsite and offsite + Multi Pass or none).
It's really frustrating that it's only for US citizens only - makes it harder for people from abroad. I'm hoping it's like a testing phase before rollout - definitely better system though!
It is unfortunate that Disney went to only one time a day per ride and booking in advance used to be 60 days if staying on property and 30 days if not staying on property.
Even though I will be staying at a Disney Hotel, I will not be able to book my Multi/Single Passes until I arrive in the US because I am a internal guest😠 I actually wish it was still Genie+ as it was fairer for international guests.
Wait wait wait a sec... I understand Royal Pacific rooms are not anything special but if you tell me the rooms at the Poly are worth the price without any benefits, I'm going to laugh in your face.
@@WDWNT Are you trying to say you don't like Universal's rides? Also Polys rooms are slightly less old and slightly less dark and in a $750/night motel... I don't understand your point
@@WDWNTyou must have stayed in a really bad room, the room I stayed in last year was bright looked remodeled had floral decorations in room to make it feel tropical and very comfortable beds and amazing hotel grounds and last time I checked still did the Luau that Polynesian got rid of, I think you are in the big minority on this opinion of Universal Premier hotels
one thing I hate is that with the old fast pass system, international guests were able to make a selection prior to when they arrive now they can not even do that!
I prefer the Universal Studios express pass model. Is it more expensive yes. If I have to pay, I want to ride when I want and not be on my phone. Yes, if you pony up for the deluxe hotels, you deserve some extras. I'm glad you can purchase the passes in advance. I still see the same problem with this new model as the old FP+ and ADR. I found that if you aren't on vacation for a week or longer, you don't get a chance at the more popular ride or restaurant.
Basically, Fastpass+ but with a twist some of the real premium rides aren't FP+ they're extra super secret handshake (with a $20 in your hand) rides. Oh, and some rides that never were on FP+ now have LLs
the disability was great the weight times were more then waiting in line but i didn't have a heart attack trying to wait in line getting rid of it is horrible
There are still major theme parks without line skipping - look at Europa Park run by Mack in Germany. 2nd most attended theme park in Europe, arguably the best, and waits are kept to a minimum thanks to it. The only upcharges on attractions are for the VR versions of coasters.
Disney Resort Guests should, absolutely get extra perks. I am a Disneyland Magic Key holder and I firmly believe at the very least Disneyland Resort guest should get the 7-day advance perk as they do in WDW.
My understanding is, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but International guests DO NOT have access to this system until we are on US soil which means we can't book anything until the day before or day of. How is this fair, there is no perk for us? At least with Genie+ we were all on equal footing. Because they changed the DAS system I no longer qualify for DAS so I was really counting on Genie+ but if we International guests can't book until we arrive on US soil and everything good is booked there is no point for me to go to Disney. If this is true this really sucks.
@@theknittingchick I believe you are indeed correct. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s some restriction that has nothing to do with Disney at all but a rule they must adhere to? And being WDW gets a huge amount of tourist from Canada, Brazil and Argentina you would think if they could do this they would. Maybe someone knows the answer to this.
I would think the extra perk is that you are so much closer to the parks that you literally can leave the park to go back to the resort if you need a break, and then right back in later if you want, at least for Disneyland parks, the bus system and distance to parks makes it a bit more difficult to pull off at WDW resorts without losing a big chunk of time to travel. But more to your point, the extra perks used to be extra magic hours, back when you got either an extra hour before the park opened to others to a bonkers extra THREE hours after everyone else had to leave(at WDW at least), oh yeah if you needed to park... it was FREE. But unfortunately for the consumer Disney felt that they shouldn't have to give you anything that actually costs them any money, so they happily gave you the ability to make reservations earlier... weeeee 🙄
At this point I’d honestly rather Disney just raise admission to $200 a person and eliminate all line bypass/reservation services. Disney gets their extra revenue, lines are more efficient, I don’t need to be glued to my phone, and a more equitable experience for ALL guests.
I think the Universal model is still better. I get it's an expensive one off payment but once I buy that I can then just get in (a usually very short line) whenever I want without having to then go on my phone to hopefully reserve a time
My only disagreement Tom is with your comment regarding hotel rooms, Universal rooms seem to lack storage space especially if you are staying for two weeks as we Brits do, however i don't think WDW rooms are great either, most of the so called refurbished resorts have lost all character, and as for sleeping on Murphy beds for the price they charge, don't get me started.!
It's stll a complicated system that may confuse a lot of guests that still make disney park vaccations burocratic. Additionaly, Disney screwd with international guests making mandatory to be in the USA to do the 7 or 3 days booking in advanve. This is an awful and unfair decision by Disney that will make international guests experience worst.
Screw paying extra just to skip lines, we are already paying exorbitant park admission costs as well as merchandise and dining is way more expensive than many can afford.
explain how this is better than current genie +. I just got back from a Disneyland vacation and used Genie plus . It went smoothly with booking because I understood how to use it and made the most out of my day . We were able to go on most of all the rides we wanted to go on during our first day with no issues. On top of that we were able to use out genie plus on the same day at DCA. Now we can only use the LL one park per day. This this affect Disneyland too? or is this for WDW ?
I think a main complaint (propbably more particular to WDW) is guests wanted to get them in advance. Some people want to not get up at 7 am on vacation.
Wow, bringing my intellectually diaabled brother with cerebral palsy to dw this August. Seems so wrong to be forced to by LL vs das. This poor guy has had such a rough life with few perks. Shame on disney. This will be my last visit (spending over $10k to stay on property)
Our local park, valley fair, charges $80 for skip the line service. Costs more than an admission ticket. Good thing about it though I wish Disney would just do is the $80 lets you skip the lines for 20 rides, no need to pick certain time window.
i love NANA!!! I watched her review of the new Mickey waffles last night and my daughter and I laughed so hard! Love her honesty! Please do more videos with her!!!
The ONLY thing I understand from the change is dropping the genie-plus name,,, And now it's ALL just called 'Lightning Lane - Stubs;; my AMC WALLET..... designed by Igerbot' . 😁
I disagree with the talk about universal Orlando premier hotels, it is pretty much agreed on by the entire theme park going world that the value you get staying at a premier hotel at Universal is unbeatable. On average you pay 370-440 a night for the premier hotel and you get unlimited express pass and the hotel rooms are nice, at Disney you pay the same amount of money for just a value maybe a moderate hotel stay in a tiny room with no perks, Universal premier hotels= worth the money, Disney hotels= not worth it at all
@@heatherweber8785 exactly! I know many people that have stayed at universal premier hotels for their vacation stays even if they spend more time at Disney because of the perks and the rooms and everything they get for their money in general but especially when they go on their days to Universal
It would be nice if WDW would just operate the rides the way they used to and the way they were intended to. I remember it used to be fair for everybody and everyone got on the rides in adequate time.
I don’t understand why they keep holding on to this pay model, if they actually listened they would make it free, then it would also mostly fix the DAS issues as well( because Disney has screwed up DAS royally now), Fastpass wasn’t a perfect system but still a heck of a lot better than lightning lane will ever be
Every other theme park has a paid skip the line service. Even six flags has a paid flash pass. Why would disney lose out on the money by making it free?
@@MaximilianZ96 I agree; while standby lines would be longer they would move much more quickly. Even people too young to remember before 1999 saw this during the pandemic. But again, that toothpaste isn't going back in the tube now that it's a reliable income stream for Disney.
Listening to Fans is What Disney is Supposed to be Doing Right Now because it Helps Solves Problems. If They Need Help, Call Us, and We Will Help Them Make Disney Even More Magical.
the menu item i miss was the bacon egg and cheese waffle sandwich in the mornings from back in the day on the regular round waffles folded in half... easy to eat and walk food for parks...
I think Multi-pass LL included for Resort guests makes sense… my issue is with the pre-booking of LL for anybody prior to the day. 7 days / 3 days thing is way better than the 90 days / 60 days thing, but like… blerg. I’m old, and I liked Fast Pass and even Max Pass better.
Disney Hotel guess got 60 days advance reservations and other guests got 30 days. It was still hard to get reservations at 60 days for the top rides unless you had an extended stay to book them at the end days (like 10 to 14 days stays).
I really wish they would offer the advance selection for those staying in Disney Hotels at Disneyland. We are literally paying at least double the price for rooms, would be nice if we had more of a benefit then a measly 1/2 hour early entry.
We know Disney is going to charge for lighting passes. Maybe it would be easier if it was simplified to one price option all inclusive, subject to availability
I was part of the Fast Pass Plus test group and this change is the same thing - just now comes at a cost. Wonder if Iger bought a LL or got up at 7 for a VQ
I only have an issue if standby lines for a flight of passage and rise are going away. I am going to be in Florida the first week of August and I only have one day to visit the park so I was going to purchase a park Hopper Pass and early access rope drop my first part without standby lines. I feel like I will not be able to get to do best rides in both parks.
This would be OK if Disney operated on the basis of the capacity of the parks. It doesn't it operates on staffing levels no of people on rides and people in the park spending money. Lightning Lane is just another tool that helps them manage crowds and profit. You are letting Disney off the hook.
Everyone is doing a terrible thing - its ok if Disney does it too. Ffs, such a bad take. Also, everyone doesn't charge $180/day per person. Your suggestion to use standby ignores that your wait times are massively inflated by those using the skip the line service. You imply this doesn't impact you if you don't want to pay, it absolutely does impact you.
Hey Tom - first wanna say a HUGE gracias for everything you guys do!! You guys are amazing 😉 Also - I have never commented before but feel I must say/ask something … you talked about the new LL pass system - but didn’t mention anything about it ONLY being available to those in the US (or at least having to be in the US to use) 😢 Just wondering about your take on this 😮
Tom I enjoy all your videos. I ask you when did making a vacation become SO HARD!!! And I don’t want to pay anymore then what I always when staying in Disney world point blank straight out I WANT FREE FAST PASSES BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬. This is a good strategy for loosing more park guests. Way to go Disney.
Knowing what attractions/rides, you can book and the times before you pay for it is also a benefit. I hope I don't lose out on a great time while I figure out if I want to pay.
I feel like Genie+ just got a whole lot easier! 🎉 I am looking forward to navigating the new changes rather than the soon to be old Genie+ crazy! I hope we get a Tom video of the new changes soon! The new cruise ship looks really fun!
Fast Pass +, but you have to pay now!?!? They should have split the difference and restored free Fast Pass +, but continued to charge for the special rides.
As an AP, I didn’t find any need to use Genie+, I’m holding on to hope that this next phase is as short lived. I’m also hoping virtual queue for attractions will be removed or at least keep it open all day like they do at Universal.
@@WDWNT40th anniversary priority pass? Hasn’t been the 40th since April. I mean, in a way, isn’t everything a “temporary offering?” Was “Genie+” a temporary offering? We kinda all felt that this was New Coke. Get rid of a beloved classic, and when you bring it back, people are so happy that they don’t care that they’re now paying for fastpass+
Say what u will, but I will spend 300+ ight at universal and get UNLIMITED fast pass access to the majority of attractions without having to schedule ANYTHING. I’m on vacation, the Disney equivalent is too much like work!
Idk, even with fastpass+ I didn’t like how planned your days had to be, and if you didn’t plan way in advance you’d have to spend a lot of time refreshing the app to swipe some of the e tickets. Charging a premium just seems inevitable for them, so I’d rather do the universal style of just spontaneously riding. Even if the premium is higher to compensate for having very little restriction on what you can ride, the reduced headache of studying how their system works would probably be worth it at least to me
With this new system, you won’t be able to use it on two tier one attractions. That was the problem with fast pass +. With Genie you’re able to hit every attraction. In addition you can use genie in multiple parks on the same day. That being said, Genie is better
We will not be renewing out Disney AP’s. We have switched to Universal two park annual passes, and it includes after 4pm Xpress pass! This works for us! We can do so many premium rides in just a few hours, plus we like that City Walk is connected to the two parks and have been enjoying spending time there while exiting the parks.
I do not know about Disney World because I have never been. I have spent the last 40 years going to Disneyland Ca. And the only change to the Genie+ for us was only a name change. Nothing else changed. Except the cost became more also.
If I recall correctly, with Max Pass you could book the same ride as many times as you wanted as long as there were Fast Passes available. That’s the only change. Unless I’m misremembering. 😅
@@Bigups5ifyThey probably live in California or a nearby state. Traveling all the way to Florida is expensive and takes a lot of time and planning and might not seem worth it. I’m 44 and from California and just taking my first trip to Orlando this summer.
As a Canadian and DVC member I’m disappointed that I have to physically be in USA to book this new system. I’ve invested $130,000 but can’t book until I’m in USA. Sure hope they change that
We won’t have the kids on our next trip so we won’t be using DAS and this will be the first time using this or genie. I was angry about fast pass plus so this is sort of more of the same for me. I agree that they did wait to charge but I still prefer day of fast pass. I just feel like that always worked for me. I’d pay for that but all of this other stuff makes it too complicated. I think it should all be in the park, just don’t let people book passes until they walk in. I know it doesn’t work for everyone so I know people can disagree; it was easier for me and every trip has just felt more complicated ever since.
You know, the more I watch this channel the more I realize this Dude is Not for the average person who loves Disney. The ones who can Maybe only make it to the parks once every other year. While he sits back and says how great it is to be able to ride rides overseas, get to take a cruise on the new boat, and jump from park to park all over just to buy the latest merch. I'm done. :(
I don’t know how you think anyone in the community makes content, but it’s not by sitting at home. No blogger or vlogger truly has the experience of a guest. Seems common sense.
As much as this makes me angry, they missed an nostalgia opportunity to just re-brand LL/Fast Passes as "E-Tickets" and use the A-B-C-D ticket tiers which everyone remembers and makes sense.
This seems like it is going to be once again bad for AP. With these purchases only for a single park, seems like park hopping for the big rides appear to be impossible with the new system unlike the multi park genie+
9:00 « there is no one left in the industry that is no charging for fast pass » Europa Park, does not charge for fastpass, they are very limited, lines move fast, single rides everywhere, guest experience is better than Disney. 💀
As much as Universal premier hotel rooms might be dated, do you really think that Disney hotel rooms are worth what they are being charged for? At least at Universal there is value with the included Express Pass.
Is the three selections ahead of time for those who have annual passes too or only DVC guests or a regular ticket? You’re only allowed to pick one from the top tier for the entire day?
