Love San Angel - never had a bad meal. The recipes are authentic Mexican - not the Tex Mex that most anticipate.

We have really enjoyed San Angel Inn several times - it's usually a must do for us. Yes, I wish they would remove about a third of the tables to make it more comfortable, but the food has always been magnificent for us, and we have enjoyed talking with our servers about their home in Mexico. And the setting is just gorgeous.

I disagree with your review of San Angel. I have always had a reservation at the opening of the lunch service (11:30 am) to ensure a table “on the water”. I think this sort of nighttime cool climate atmosphere makes this such a great stop for lunch. You truly get out of the heat and blazing sun. Our food has always been delicious. I also love that the kids can ride the Three Caballeros attraction over and over again while we finished up our meal and pay the check.

I went to Disney the week of December 15th with my husband as our Christmas gift. (It was neither of our first time although Jason hadn't been in 10 years. My last time was 2016) Our favorite park was Epcot and I wanted to add a dissenting voice for your review of San Angel. We had a beautiful romantic dinner as part of our Candlelight Processional package. Not only was the meal top notch (& we live in NYC so we tend to be discerning) but the service was impeccable. Our waiter was very attentive and informative giving us lots of Disney tips and insights. We did have a little bit of a wait for the food but it wasn't unpleasant as we werent in a rush and were enjoying top notch drinks. I had their signature margarita which is actually made with a top shelf tequila and finished with a float of rosè on top. Unique and amazing (you can also get it in Cava) The guac I had for an appetizer was fresh and flavorful and the queso was delicious. I had the steak, which was butchered in house and cooked exactly medium rare, as I requested. I know this is only one experience and you've probably had dozens, but since mine was so different from yours, I wanted to comment. That being said, I ADORE your blog and you've turned me into a Disney addict (I really didn't have far to go but your blog and videos have pushed me over the edge in the best way!) Thanks for all the great info and have a magical day!

It's funny. I've heard that same review about San Angel from many people. We've been very very lucky. Each time we've gone, the food has been decent to very good. AND....we ALWAYS get a table by the water. Atmosphere....I don't think any restaurant in world showcase is as good. We absolutely love it. Plus it doubles as a small water ride with donald and friends. The interior of that pyramid is spectacular. And it's one of my very faves. :)

It's weird to see all of the bad reviews for San Angel Inn. We loved the food there. The chips and salsa were great. My husband got some tacos, i got the enchiladas and we were gifted churros and ice cream for dessert. Everything was really good and I'm Mexican so I know good Mexican food lol

I have to highly disagree. Went a couple years ago and as a whole the food was pretty bad. Yeah it’s theme park food so wasn’t expecting super authentic, but as a actual Mexican myself I figured it would be better. It tasted similar to some thing I would’ve eaten at El Torito. Gross all around

Eating at San Angel Inn is our family's first night in Disney tradition. My husband and I grab a drink at La Cava del Tequila while we wait for our requested riverside table and peruse the marketplace. After we are seated and place our order for food, my son and I go hop on Gran Fiesta Tour if the line is short, and my husband holds down the fort (aka orders another margarita). My husband and I enjoy the Carne Asada Tampiqueña and my son has the quesadilla. We lovingly refer to it as "Our Favorite Mexican Restaurant in 'The World'."

The past 3 WDW trips my wife and I did we didn't sit down to any big meals, we just "Snank and Drink Around the World". We love doing it. We have our spots memorized and know the best items to get each time. After watching your videos I think next time we'll have to change things up and sit down and eat a meal in EPCOT.

The one time I ate lunch at San Angel it was really good. I was able to get a table by the water so the atmosphere was nice. I ordered off the appetizer menu and I enjoyed it. The margarita was out of this world! So I guess it's hit or miss depending on when you go.

We have always tried to dine at San Angel - true, the tables are now too crowded and true the wait staff and food can sometimes be less than expected - but I don't think it is as bad as you stated - the atmosphere is amazing and truly imagineered in the classic Disney style - make sure you also go on the ride and see Donald, Jose and Panchito!!!

Idk if I was just having a lucky day but my experience at San Angel Inn Restaurante was AMAZING. We went in during the lunch rush after we decided twenty minutes earlier to make a reservation and were told that we'd be seated in a half an hour. My mom and I went to the restroom and by the time we got out, my dad and brother were already being lead to our table. So that half an hour wait turned into 7 minutes at the most. Then we got a table right on the river without requesting it and our server was so sweet. Our appetizers were amazing and the guacamole was by far the best I've ever had. Then our meals came out and they were even better. The portion sizes were huge and since we were going for lunch, we decided not to take our leftovers through the park until it closed but we were seriously considering it since the food was so good. Maybe I just had the luckiest experience there or maybe we just happened to order the best options on the menu lol but I would go back in a heartbeat and I've been recommending it to everyone I know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Our family of 8 just ate at San Angel Inn today-reservation at 11:30. We ordered quite a few different things from the salmon salad to tacos al pastor, tacos carne. Loved the quest. Everyone enjoyed everything. Guacamole was exceptional. We were expecting “Tex-Mex,” But we’re very happily surprised. Tacos al Pastor was especially authentic as we could compare with home cooked meal we just ate with our Mexican friends. Our waitress was wonderful and helpful, the atmosphere is great, we all loved our food, and I wonder “expensive“ as compared to what? It is much cheaper than some of the restaurants at Epcot. We love your video blogs! Thank you!

The one saving grace of San Angel Inn is their signature margarita. It is a must have in my opinion. Totally worth getting a river side table, appetizers, and a few of these amazing cocktails. Recently tried San Angel restaurant after not having a good time there years back. This past September we had a great time, good service with a really nice waitress, and food was cooked perfect. In the past it was dry, and slopped on the plate kind of feel. But again we had the opposite this time around everything we ordered was great! Park attendance was low and the restaurant wasn't crowded so maybe that was a factor.

Agreed with your review 100%. Its sad, many years ago, San Angel Inn was such a great restaurant. One of my families favorite stops. They had a really cool cactus salad. Then, they must have changed out restaurant providers. The Menu changed, and the quality has been poor ever since. Too bad, the view of the pyramid and the “river” is beautiful

So San angel inn is actually one of my favorite restaurants in terms of the food, and atmosphere! I cannot remember exactly what the name was, but I love ordering the trio dinner they have on the menu with the chefs choices I believe? The food to us is always very flavorful, with good size portions and given we are always on the Disney dining plan, I personally love eating at San angel inn. I can vouch that San angel inn is a favorite and a must do for my family, and already a booked reservation for us in 2 months!

San Angel Inn... so true about it being a hit or miss. We've had mostly mediocre food here, but we go for the ambiance more than anything. I will say that the last time we ate here (2014) niece and I ordered the special (steak of sorts) and it was amazing! And to be fair, our party of eight were all happy with their meals, but that special was over the top super good! Preparing for another trip to WDW in 2019 and since we are bringing newbies, not taking the chance on San Angel, which saddens me that they're not consistent in their food.

Thanks for continuing this series! But I'm confused about something; you mention at the end of the video to check out some of the others in the series, and list "FRANCE" as one of the videos, but I don't see it in the video list: Germany and Italy, but not France. I do see a review for Les Halles, but not one for the entire French pavilion, or am I missing it?

Everytime we go to Epcot, lunch is always at the Mexican pavilion (although I wish we could change place for once :P ) The only place we ever go this pavilion is always the "Catina de San Angel" since we aren't the type that prefer to spend time at a restaurant and just want to grab something quick and go. The food is decent, is not really the big deal but is tasty, the view is very nice, really like it a lot. The thing I don't tend to like a lot is that they have pretty much the same menu item that you could get at some small Mexican restaurant like the nachos, I wish they have a much verity or different food items.

San Angel Inn used to be good but in recent years it seems as if it has taken a turn. The service is sub-par. We were dining there once and my water glass was empty, so I took a sip of my husband's coca cola and the server came to the table and told me that it's not a shareable coke!!??!! Needless to say he lost his 20% tip over a $3 coke and his lack of customer service.

It's middle American strip mall Mexican food. Familiar food, that doesn't upset picky eaters. As people get more acquainted with authentic mexican food that isn't stip mall texmex we might see changes. I'd like to see it done by regions of Mexico...like Baja, Yucatan, and our familiar "texmex" . It will change as middle America's knowledge changes.

What are "credits"? How do I get them? Can I share them?
@jamie1602
@jamie1602 7 лет назад
If you're on the Disney Dining plan, you get a number of credits for your stay. It depends on your plan type. You cannot share your credits with people who are not in your party. People can dine with you who are not in your party, but you have to make arrangements to split the bill and things get tricky with reminding your cast member who served you. Each meal potentially costs a credit. In regards to this video, Cantina de San Angel is ONE QUICK SERVICE CREDIT as it's a quick service style place where you grab your food and go. La Hacienda de San Angel is ONE TABLE SERVICE CREDIT where you sit down and you're tended to by staff.. So it's pretty straightforward. You usually are one for one in most places. In Epcot there are places like Le Cellier that take TWO TABLE SERVICE CREDITS. This is because Le Cellier is considered to be more upscale and therefore, will take more credits. This means you might have to sacrifice a meal and go out of pocket. You also get SNACK CREDITS. Considering some of Disney World's snacks are MASSIVE and you can indeed purchase a turkey leg with a snack credit, if you're that hungry for a snack, you'll be okay. But this depends on what you're interested in as a dining plan! There are plans that are all for quick services (but this is a poor value plan) and there are some that cater to those who prefer the table services. The question is what do you want out of your trip? You're paying for this plan. It's sort of like pre-paying for your food and wondering if you come out even. If you intend to have lobster and steak and want to try the best Disney has to offer, the dining plan can help you do that... But if you don't want to do that, the dining plan isn't the greatest thing in the world. The dining plan is also the worst thing for picky eaters as it prevents them from ordering off the children's menu. That children's menu is really comforting when you need a break, have trouble with the portion sizes, or you're just not feeling too well. If you are still interested in the dining plan for your trip, crunch the numbers with your "dream restaurants" and meals you think you might want to order. Add them together and see if the total comes close to what it would cost to book your vacation with the dining plan. Dream big to eat big.

Well, just returned from our annual disney trip (12/10-14), some months ago, we pre-planned or visits to La Hacinda, terrible service experience specifically regarding seating & actions by management . upon our arrival (4 adults in our party) attempted to seat us, along the banquette between two families with young children who were full of energy, & bouncing off the walls, when i requested another table away from children the management educated me that this was family restaurant, i guess being a 70 year old i had to be reminded, i asserted was aware this was not "fine dining" but given the number of tables, i am sure that they could locate another table. well, they (management ) did find another table, ! oh yes in the "dark" windowless room as a punishment for not being submissive to their directions commands. my perception, was that management well we give then what they want ! well, i did not accept, that as well. finally was given a table that acceptable, will pass along the names of managers to disney, the food was "ok" & as you stated in review the "corn" soup was very very good. nevertheless will NOT be back. also, last meal within the "ANGEL" inside the exhibit, found the tables & seating to very crowded, again, i thought the seating in the La Hacinda was crowded as well, probably a very good question would be with large number of tables & chairs within the allowable fire codes for proper exiting ???? (occupancy)

My wife and I once got food poisoning at La Hacienda. We were so sick for almost an entire 24 hour period, so we will obviously never return to that restaurant. We shared a platter that had a mix of many different types of seafood. However, we suspect it was the scallops.

Don't think I've ever eaten at any restaurant, or stand, in Mexico in all of my trips; Not much of a Mexican food person to begin with, I can get really good Mexican around where I live, and there are too many other good., and unique, places to eat in Epcot. Very late in watching this, just catching up. Great job, as usual, AJ!

For gluten allergies, la Hacienda is amazing. Only issue is they don't have GF chips

San Angel Inn... Oh my god. That was the worst food I ever had at the park. I wound up moving things around on my plate so it looked like I ate something, because I'm weird and I didn't want to offend anyone. :P

I always find it weird when people complain about San Angel Inn because every time I go the food is great (I only ever get the Mole though so maybe thats why) and I always have excellent servers. Maybe I just get lucky? But I have yet to have a bad time there.

My wife and I have eaten at San Angel Inn Restaurante on three different trips to Disney, each time being certain that the quality of the food MUST have improved. Nope - always truly, outragously BAD. Taco Bell is a massive step up in quality. When you consider the over crowding, the noise, the price and the food, save yourself some grief: take the money you'd spend here into your hotel bath and set fire to in the sink. You'll thank me if you do.

Laurie B. If you are at Disneyland you don't eat there if you want authentic Mexican food. Remember, it's California, and very close to the border.

The food at San Angel Inn is atrocious! The theming is great, it's a lovely place to go, but don't go there for the food. Plus, it's incredibly overpriced. So go there for a margarita and some chips and salsa,, enjoy the atmosphere, and then go somewhere else to eat. -- I really wish they'd get someone in there who'd redo the menu -- bring in some great fish dishes, something Mexico City-cosmopolitan in addition to the usual tacos and enchiladas. Disney could make this a really great restaurant if they wanted!

Agree on the San Angel Inn. Food is marginal. Not worth the time you wait.
