This is one of my favorite old Disneyland specials with Kurt Russell, The Osmond Brothers and E.J. Peaker. Donny and Jay run off to go explore the park while the rest search endlessly for them, fearful that the two might miss their time to perform. The program ends with a "making of" the Haunted Mansion (which, at the time, was the "new" attraction).

Oh how I miss the young Osmonds! I miss everything about the 1970s youth paradise! Later, in 1978, I would actually get to go to Disney World,and it's still probably the best thing that ever happened to me! We had very little money, but Dad had sold a large equipment system to some office somewhere, and got a huge bonus. I was never EVER spoiled. I still thank him almost 50 years later! Just Dad and I, together in Orlando for a week. Paradise

Road trip to California from North Carolina in the summer of 1975 with my folks to visit family. I was 14 years old, and the trip resulted in an amazing summer. Saw family I hadn't seen since I was 5, got to visit Disneyland, and met my first California girl, a girl named Peggy. A friend of my cousins, she was adorable, blue eyes and long black hair, we hit it off instantly. What a Summer!!

Even though that I was born in the 1970's, I still remember the People Mover transit system, Space Mountain, the Matterhorn ride, a Haunted House, the spinning Cups, Mr. Frog's Wild Ride (?) and Bear (Frontier Jamboree) Country. This was so cool to see again: I remember going on the Small World ride, Jungle Boat cruise and the Space Mountain ride. What a Fun Time to be a Child.....

*And to think, just 9 years later after this aired, Kurt Russel gives birth to Chris Pratt.* I remember watching this the first time it aired on NBC on Sunday night at 7pm. Right after *Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom with Marlin Perkins.* Here’s the show’s introduction: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b4UBhDxG3yc.html&feature=related Soo much has changed since 1970. The most noticeable was the lack of crowds. Notice the park is not crammed full of people. Back then, you could walk around without wall-to-wall people every where. You could go on rides multiple times a visit and still make all the other rides without Fast Passes. Disney’s The Rivers of America used to have four different boats you could ride: the *Paddle Wheel boat;* the *Columbia long mast boat;* the *canoes;* and the *wooden Keel boats* seen in the video (The ones that look like little houses with long, narrow windows. Historically, the keel boats ran on the Mississippi River.) There was the *People Mover* in Tomorrow Land that runs down the middle of the corridor entering Tomorrow Land. It weaved its way through Autopia and *Mission to Mars* rides as it snaked through Tomorrow Land. There were *Skyway to Fantasy Land* cable cars that took you from the end of Fantasy Land to the end of Tomorrow Land that cut right through The Matterhorn. (see this video from 1993: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6BthmoJCPQ.html) *The Haunted Mansion* debuted to the general public in *August of 1969,* followed by this episode of *The Wonderful World of Disney* that first aired on NBC in *March of 1970.* My family went to Disneyland soon after and rode the Haunted Mansion for the first time. FYI: at 40:55 the man who owned the talking face that appears and sings on the Haunted Mansion ride to this day is named *Thurl Ravenscroft.* He was the voice of *Tony the Tiger from Frosted Flakes Cereal.* AND Thurl sings the title song for the Christmas cartoon classic *The Grinch that Stole Christmas* just to name a few. (Watch *Many Voices of Thurl Ravenscroft* ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rUl8dyaUIqo.html)

I think it has been mentioned before here on these posts, but E.J. Peaker (if her name is spelled that way) looks like Barbara Eden. She does not sound like her when she first calls out to Kurt Russell and The Osmonds but she begins to sound more like her as the episode goes along. But it seems that in the very first scene in which she appears, she is presented as a typical dumb blond in that she did not know that she was a year late to bring her car to a parade. Another odd thing is when Kurt Russell yells from the double-deckerr bus to Mr Gridley (who appears to be some kind of stage-acts manager) , Kurt then introduces E.J. Peaker and The Osmond Brothers to Mr Gridley. Then Mr Gridley says to the Osmond Brothers "Boys, it is wonderful to have you back at Disneyland" which indicates that he had met them before already . Sure it is possible that some other person was the stage-acts manager before him and told him that The Osmonds were coming back to perform but he had not met them yet, but there is no mention of that in the show. Also as the Osmonds sang "Down By The Corner," the bus drove away from Mr Gridley and it went far enough from where he was so that he could not have continued to hear them singing but he is depicted as knowing when the Osmonds finished the song and he mentions that the song took 2 minutes for them to sing it when they are nowhere near him by that time...

Very good job dudes and well done!! Congratulations 992.2% yo throughout the 2nd sizzling week of said joyous June y'all. This is why Walt had genius in him. He created something that is just as entertaining today 50 years later as it was when it first opened back in the early 70's.🏅🥇🎊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎲⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🖼🖼🖼🇺🇸🇺🇸🎈

Wow! Thanks for posting this great episode! It's one of my favorites, mainly for the music, especially the songs "Down On The Corner" and "Sugar Sugar"! I've been looking for this episode for years! Now, my understanding was that long hair on guys-meaning past the neckline-was not permitted at Disneyland at that time. I don't know why exactly, probably because of some of the negative attitudes associated with hippies. So how come the front man of The Sound Castle was wearing long hair? Must have been some kind of double standard-the hired performers could wear long hair, but the paying guests could not. Weird.

Did you hear that Walt Disney forbade Russians from going into his amusement park?
@cannibalisticrequiem

@@obscurelyvague No he didn't.

Not really. It had nothing to do with hippies. Walt Disney wanted his theme park to stand above other theme parks and carnivals at the time, which were considered rundown and busted, so he made it a rule that guests had to be nicely dressed to enter his park, in order to keep up the appearance of a clean park. Of course over the years, this has changed, to allowing guests to wear what makes them feel comfortable, just as long as they aren't dressed provocatively, or look like a complete slob. As for certain cast members, longish hair on men was deemed "okay" depending on what character they were. Personally, I didn't noticed any male cast members with long hair. Interestingly, now we have Dapper Days at the Disney Parks (Disneyland and WDW at least), where people dress up the way they did in 1955 when the park first opened.

@@cannibalisticrequiem In the early 60's, going to Disneyland was a big deal, so we dressed up in our Sunday best. I'm from so. Cal (Fontana), and even going shopping in San Bernardino down E street meant dressing in our Sunday best. By the 70's, I'd gone to Disneyland so often, we wore jeans and a casual shirt. Even our high school Grad Night was going to Disneyland.

Those days when the parks were fun, and everyone could get in with just a few dollars. The one goof I noticed is when the boys are at the Frontierland shooting gallery, its someone from the Jungle Cruise that's working there and talking to Wayne.

@@carycomic1954 I did some research and found that there was a Shooting Gallery in Adventureland Disneyalnd which I did not know till now. Big Game Safari Shooting Gallery. They closed it up in '82. So yes, you are right.
