An R2 or R5 should be a piece of cake if they got this one down. Galaxy's Edge currently lacks the droids, Twi'Leks, Trandoshans or Wookies to get really immersive. There's a LOT Disney imagineering could be doing at the parks.

For Wookies they need to develop a fur suit that won't kill the guy who has to wear it in the Florida summer heat.

Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland - at least - have droids (hung out with Chopper a few weeks ago), Twi'Leks (I know Hera was in the parks towards the end of last year), and Wookies since Chewy is there every day. They're all super immersive elements. They also have Ahsoka, Mando, Fennec, Rae, Kylo, Storm Troopers, etc regularly there.

Great video…thank you. From the time when Walt Disney was still alive, Disney was not just the leader in animatronics, it was the originator. The world of AI is such that anyone can get involved and bring innovation. Disney is a company that sells things. ESPN is dead-long live AI robots. Imagine the demand for AI robots that can express emotion. Thanks for all the hard work needed to create this video.

Very interesting. Seems safe to say that Disney sees substantial potential in "entertainment robotics/A.I" as opposed to Boston Dynamics and Tesla which are more focused on the practical, human interfacing aspects of the technology. I might speculate that Disney's market will be the winner, especially over the short term, e.g., 1-5 years ahead. The reason is due to the very extensive safety concerns when interfacing humans with robotics. Extrapolating from the self-driving car development, it becomes apparent that designing robotics/A.I. that can function safely and effectively in a near-limitless number of circumstances is much harder than everyone expected. In 2014 Musk thought autonomous self-driving cars would be available in a couple years.... way off. Entertainment robots have the advantage of not being responsible for intimate human interfacing = much less risk and therefore able to enter the market relatively quickly. Disney might be on to something.

Probably no one mentions it because, today, general-purpose artificial intelligence does not exist, nor does anyone know how to build one. Forget about all those who try to sell you anything. I didn't see anyone mentioning Teslabot, which is using a general AI. There was a video released showing a Teslabot sorting colored blocks into two piles. In 9 months of video training, not direct coding, it was trained to sort colored blocks into two piles as rapidly as humans even with external interference. This interference included blocks being moved around or set back from sorted into the unsorted area. I belive their plan is to use the Teslabot for manufacturing Tesla EVs.

Sounds a little risky but some times you need a "second hand" to help with some task that take a while to finished with just 1 person. For a example a dishwasher in a famous restaurant or busy restaurant. But do not replace humans, just if you need help with something that you are not able to do on time, asked the Ai robot if they can help you.

Boston Dynamics robots may move “effectively” whatever that means, but they are completely scripted. Yes they adapt to changes and unpredictable influences but only in a way that the programming is scripted for. It would be great if they started from scratch and gave it a Large Multi-modal Model with some of the new developments like memory, ongoing recursive training, the ability to create it’s own synthetic video to feed back into train data (giving it imagination and planning ability), etc. It’s not going far as a scripted NPC. And if they do all that they will need to start making the parts modular so they can be replaced and more easily mass produced.

I've been thinking that Disney would start employing real AI droids some time in the future. Thus far that closest one to having a fully AI robot is Tesla. They are looking at having them ready for mass production by 2024, but it most likely will be 2025 at $10,000 a piece. That's awesome! If Disney employs real AI droids like an R2D2 or a C3PO, that would also be awesome. I wonder how close they actually are to a real AI or AGI (artificial general intelligence) robot. That is really the holy grail of robotics.

AGI: 2029 ASI: 2045 Predicted by Ray Kurzweil, the best dude predicting the future technology by far, but the consumer market of domestic simple robots for people will start to gain speed from 2025 and will burst in 2026-27, reaching the main sophistication point toward 2037 so the best moment to get in this industry is NOW, 2023.

Sorting blue and green blocks is not revolutionary, we have machines today that can sort trash, this means irregular pieces of stuff with different textures and cleaness, and they can see what each peice is made off and pick it up and sort it while it is on a conveyor belt. If you want something to chat to and show emotions then there are many social robots already in use. If I had to say one humanoid was advanced in social interactions it would be Ameca, but I am not convinced it is even close to AGI, which is also impossible to predict, some say it is only a few years away, many say between 2040 and 2061, some say we will never get there. If you want a robot that can move fast and smoothly then of course there is Atlas, but also Ameca. Remember that just because something acts human does not mean it is human. Programming is like instinct, much cheaper than understanding but can mimic it very well. Like mimicing parrots or horses doing math or chimps doing sign language. People are easy to fool, don't be fooled by algorithm.
@azhuransmx126
@azhuransmx126 6 месяцев назад
@bloodypigeon in what you say is the answer, the magic only will happen when you put it all together. Did you see the little Google Deep-Mind robots that learned to play soccer using Reinforcement Learning and Convolutional Neural Networks? Well, that technique is the future of movement for the AI and Robotics. The first company that put all together will have a very disruptive machine. That would happen in 2030 or even 2028, Ray Kurzweil predicted 2029, so I take this year.

Before 2030, the first world gonna be full of androids and all types of robots, the prices will drop faster than we may think because battery and electric motors technology is already mature due to the electric cars and drones industry. Thats BD-1 from Star Wars: Fallen Order 1 and 2 which are the very excellent video games on PS5 and PC set just after Order 66. You play as Cal Kestis, a padawan that saw his master die in Order 66. He lives in exile as a ship breaker until the bad guys find him and your adventures begin. One of the first adventures takes you to another planet where you meet BD-1 and it becomes your companion for the whole game. In the game, BD-1 is much smaller, small enough to climb up on Cal's back and ride there looking over Cal's shoulder. But its the same form factor, two legs, no arms, body, and flat head.

This is a little sensationalizes. What Disney created is a reinforcement learning approach to allow animators to create fluid, natural looking motion which can still function in the real world. The motion is still determined by animators. but instead of having to spend so much time of trial and error trying to make motion that keeps the robot upright, the RL model is able to take the animators feedback, along with a ton of past data, and generate a stable motion plan. This is an incredible step forward in having natural looking motion. But saying they are autonomously driven my AI is a little hyperbolic

It's just that new robots that walk, have arms, and lift weights won't have the speed advantage and flexibility of a human. I think mechanical hands that are programmed and statically perform work in companies, I think only they will gain an advantage in production than an ordinary person. Therefore, there is nothing to fear that robots will completely take over the work of people in manufacturing companies. Because the flexibility of robots is not yet fully developed to represent the full human work.

Disney's all about entertainment, yes, but they've have a whole R&D think tank sector (NOT even tied to Imagineering). Search around for it. Last year or so they were showcasing facial recognition stuff that, sure, can be used for entertainment and ALSO could be used for other things, too. In the early 90's, I was told that Disney had camera capabilities to read the date on a dime placed anywhere in their parking lot; that was revolutionary at the time since they're not the military. It's smart of them -- even in hard times, people will pay to be entertained. Ice creams sales went up during times of economic depression. Easier to get millions of dollars for research when you can make it back from, say, movies versus begging for millions of dollars to do research the old-fashioned way.

How are the TheAIGRID and AI Upload channels connected? I watched both of their videos on the Disney AI Robots and there was a lot of duplicate parts of the script.

It won't be long before Disney have an in house genetics program if they don't have one already. Owning a copyrighted workforce of actual living, breathing cartoon characters is a Disney wet dream. Ironically, I think Mickey Mouse, the character that started it all, might be the scariest in the flesh.
