Over 80% of children and adults with ADHD have at least one other psychiatric disorder and more than 50% have at least two such comorbid disorders. This presentation will address as its learning objectives:
1. A review of the most common comorbid disorders that co-exist with ADHD and the reasons they may be associated with ADHD.
2. A description of the possible effects these comorbid disorders may have on both understanding the clinical case and especially in selecting treatment options to address both the ADHD and the comorbid disorder.
3. Special attention will be given to discussing the impact of comorbid oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, autism spectrum disorder,, sleep disorders, and learning disabilities.
4. For each, the presenter will focus on how they may alter treatment planning.

I was a child diagnosed with BPD and MDD. Definitely had the trauma conditions to create the disorders, and mentally, I can see a lot of the symptoms presenting in my thoughts. Recently, I was diagnosed with ADD. The more I learn, the more I feel like, while I may have been dealing with the other two, an early diagnosis of ADD may have significantly improved my quality of life. It may have also led to a quicker and more effective treatment of the other two disorders. This was really a really interesting lecture. Thank you for sharing Dr. Barkley.

Thank you so much for all of your videos. How likely is it that an adult is diagnosed with BPD instead of ADHD, especially women who weren't very hyperactive in their childhood, but with a complex childhood trauma and a history of mental health illnesses in the family? Is it possible that they have both ADHD and BPD (and or more) ?

Early intervention is so important! More education and awareness is crucial as even those in the health profession don't pick it up. Thank you for another super helpful video!

Can we please say co-occuring and not cormorbid and 'difference' instead of 'disorder'? Nothing to be gained by making us feel broken and disordered, You want us to feel happy and valued right?.

If a state is calling it different, you’ll get no medical attention. They are trying to do it globally right now to put the responsibility on us and not needing to spend money and resources to help us. Anything that’s good about you, is you. The disorder is making all of that harder and has no positive effects. Would you call the switching from manic to depressive to manic endlessly, a state of bipolar is simply being ”different”? If you want to be valued, find the value of all the hard work you’ve done and all the accomplishments while being severly impacted by something that hold you back. You’re great, don’t let lobbyists cut your health care by spreading worse than wrong ”science”.
