On this gorgeous summer day, we take our VW Vanagon Westy out for an adventure in the Deshutes NF outside of Sisters Oregon. We visit lava tube caves, hike on ancient lava flows and find some pretty amazing camp sites.

Viewing the tail-end scene, reminded me of replacing my fire extinguisher and holder. Mine has been with me since I bought my 87 over 15 years ago. How often do you replace yours and where did you find the unit you have now? Do you use something like a Blazecut in the engine bay? Many thanks for your very well done videos!

We were in the same boat as you and had very old extinguishers in our van and it was in a hard to reach place in the cabinet. I think we bought this at Home Depot and have had it there for 2 years or so. I will have to look at the date on the extinguisher to see when I should replace it next. Blazecut is on our radar but do not have it yet. Thanks so much for watching! nate

Loving the vlogs. You have a very chill and dynamic style of presenting the content. I am not a big fan of cooking in the van though. I hate it when my pillow smells like my dinner. :D Btw ever since the winter video I've been meaning to ask - do you have an LSD or Peloquin, cuz I noticed you are spinning both wheels?

Thanks! We always cook in the Westy, the kitchen is a huge reason we bought a full Westy and not a Weekender. We do not bring a camp stove or even a table while traveling. We pack light so we can explore and not worry about stuff bouncing around in the van. We just open the roof vent and the side windows and never smell our food after that. We did not have a Peloquin in the last snow video. The snow was just that slushy and slippery that both wheels were spinning. We do have a Peloquin now and installed it after we got back from Vancouver Island in March. Love it. Thanks for watching! nate

When you are running the back country how much extra gas are you carrying? With the original engine I was getting about eleven miles a gallon. That scared me to death.

We have a 2.5 gallon Rotopax can on the ladder rack though we have never really needed it. Our van gets around 18mpg so our range is about 250 miles. 11mpg is really bad and is running very rich. Nate

@@ThatBaldwinLifeIt was running badly and I hadn’t been in a VW van since my bus that I had in ‘71 - 74 or the bay window my wife and I had from 80-83. This 1.9L is going for a Subaru as I write this. Hopefully it will do much better with a new pusher.
